We, people from Stavanger never felt we needed anything. I think the whole idea was constructed as a addition to 1000 year celebration of town. Yes it predates Liverpool quite a lot. Early settlements around 8 000 BC. Powerful chieftains with connections around Europe and beyond not until early bronze age ( 1500-500 BC ). Bla bla... Viking kingdom of Jorvik, bla bla Yorkshire, bla bla Lancashire - Liverpool -boats-saling no importance... Culture is ofc shopping and trends of conformity ;)
