I maintain my philosophy (for Bush malfeasance doesnt touch it) of American Realism. Judges make law, which justifies the 2000 elections, not the 2004. And in 2004 Bush did win the popular vote as well and was much more reliable. Essentially, while disenfranchisement is very very bad, overall, it's still clear that he won.

The only manner in which the legitimacy may be in question is if the % of votes overwhelms the difference, or if the voter fraud can be directly tied to the individual elected. When plausible deniability plays such an important role in such things - the latter is nearly impossible to prove.

If the Palestinians want an end to checkpoints, they need to stop acting like violent animals and start acting like civilized human beings. As long as they continue violence and terrorism, the checkpoints will stay.

At first I was going to give you a tirade on the nature of pragmatism. But the video you sent me to was... disquieting.
I maintain my philosophy (for Bush malfeasance doesnt touch it) of American Realism. Judges make law, which justifies the 2000 elections, not the 2004. And in 2004 Bush did win the popular vote as well and was much more reliable. Essentially, while disenfranchisement is very very bad, overall, it's still clear that he won.

Two candidates run for an office, A and B.
A) Earns 55% of the vote on election Day
B) Earns 40%
There is a 4% margin of error, and not everyone voted for A or B.
An investigation is held, and it determines that 4% of A's votes are earned illegally.
Which means, at the very worst, A) Has 47% of the vote (with margin) and B) has 44% of the vote.

The only manner in which the legitimacy may be in question is if the % of votes overwhelms the difference, or if the voter fraud can be directly tied to the individual elected. When plausible deniability plays such an important role in such things - the latter is nearly impossible to prove.

During Bush's present trip to Israel. He stood before the Israeli parliament I think, and called for Israel to pull out of the illegal settlements in Palestinian territory to make it possible for a state to be formed. To bring peace.

I had not heard he said that. Still, does this statement of his imply an agreement with the U.N. resolution or merely an account of his own (or the US') position on the matter?

Speaking for himself, as wannabe peacemaker as POTUS.
I respect Bush for being the first US President to formally call for a Palestinian State. I believe he sincerely wants a Palestinian State. I believe he sincerely wants to help. I believe he does not want to interfere.

Yes, he is technically the first POTUS to call for a Palestinian state, but considering it's his 8th year in office and this is the first time he's gone there, I'm not exactly proffering praise of him.
And also - 30 billion in support I'd think we can consider "interference." But that's me.

Doesn't really matter what I think personally. A few things about me:
I sent a telegram to the mayor of Jerusalem in 1969. Mr Kozod, or Mr. Kolod, can't remember. Told him Jerusalem should not be a Jewish city. Should be an International City, IMHO.
I never approved of the cantons in Palestine, nor the settlements there. But I never spoke out because I am not there, and don't know all the facts on the ground there.

Well said. I too think Jerusalem needs to be an international city. And the situation there has been mishandled on both sides form the view of an admittedly poorly informed position such as mine.
Well, my hope is the Trekian hope: that one day we are a United Planet, and explorers of the greater universe - which means this petty squabbling's gotta stop in the next few millenia.

While visiting Israel and the Palestinian Territories on Thursday, he (Bush) said Israel must end its occupation of some Arab land to enable the creation of a viable Palestinian state.
Aljazeera specifically stated on this video here that George Bush did not make any comments regarding this issue, I'm sure aljazeera, reputable media arm that it is, will print a retraction or an apology or something, soon.

I have found AJ to be most reliable, which was an admitted surprise considering the rancor developed toward them in this country.
I rather like AJ's reporting, and hope they seek to maintain accuracy over all things.

Tell us why its an embarassment? Is Bush supposed to come over there and act all 'Palestinian' for you? Just maybe Bush's little joke was direct and to the point, i.e he gets through checkpoints without being stopped because he and his enterage are not likely to be wearing suicide vests and or smuggling rockets and mortars around intended for civilian populations. Not just that, he is a fascist and corrupt leader, a president who swore an oath to uphold the constitution and yet found ways to remove rights from it... that means YOUR liberties have been reduced. His government is the most corrupt I have ever seen in my life (so far). I would be embarrassed that he was elected TWICE. He is a joke to the rest of the world.

Many of us are appalled all of the time. I have gone to the occupied territories and stood with the Palestinians in defiance of Israel's brutality. Many of us have been shot, beaten and killed by Israel's military. If we could get rid of this racist bully who occupies the White House and his support for the apartheid policies of Israel and its genocidal policies against the Palestinians, believe me, we would.

Form a legitimate Palestinian goverment that can actually enfore a few laws, namely weapons laws. Give that a go for a few years and you'll see the walls and checkpoints come down. Israelis didn't just get bored one day and say hey lets put checkpoints and walls all over the place. Get a clue which is the horse and which is the cart.

Maybe checkpoints would no longer be necessary if the Palestinians stop supporting terrorism against the people of Israel. This is a non-story. As for the UN resolutions, it has always been a joke, and anti-Israel. How many wars have the Arab states around Israel started?

I have no doubt he will end the war by the time he leaves office.
He started the war for him and his buddies to make some cash. When he is going to end the war he will tell his buddies first so they can get out of their halibertan stocks without loosing money before the stock drops.

Bush was EMPATHIZING with them. If you could read subtext, you would even understand that he was being critical of the Israelis with his joke. I'll explain it for you.
When he says that his 45 car motorcade can get through but an average person can't, do you really think he's bragging? It's meant to highlight the absurdity of the situation.

The Palestinains never accepted the UN partition, they NEVER accepted 242 which called for land for peace...nothing!

BTW, I have lived in Israel, and I know what goes on there, and I know that the Israelis are ready to accept arabs in peace, but that the arabs are not ready. The arabs only wish is to destroy Israel, and under that reality, Israel is often perceived as an aggressor when it defends itself from murderous barbarians.

kam: Thanks for the phrase "murderous barbarians." I grew up with Jews and have the greatest regard for the Jewish people, and know what Israel means to them. On the other hand, the old (pre 9/11) view of the world has been decimated. We have learned that Palestinians have an utterly legitimate POV. People are now quite suspicious of your view, no matter how much they wish for the perpetuation of the State of Israel.

The problem with people like you is that you imagine Israel to be some welfare state that will shrivel up and die when the world "demands" it. Newsflash, Israel is a world power, which makes advanced hi-tech weapons, and which has 200+ thermonuclear weapons, and last strike capability. We wish for peace, but if the day comes and our nation is destroyed by force, we, like any other nuclear power, will unleash our bombs.

BTW, when you call for Israel's dismantlement, termination, destruction (or any other euphemism), you put yourself in the role of aggressor. Just try to imagine how it sounds to jews. Of course, we know where this comes from, it's the same old jew hating game, but this time, we're armed with the most powerful weapons in the world. Israel as a jewish state is NON-NEGOTIABLE.
