  • You two are so charming! :)

  • I love that sweater!!

  • @KiroToru Me too actually... lol I want it!

  • It's not mentioned in your description but I learned that Lorenzo Semple was a screenwriter in his life -- he did Papillon and Three Days of the Condor, and many others. I like him already (and his wife) but these facts give him a particular credibility because he certainly knows his stuff as far as story creation. I was an immediate subscriber!

  • what a great review thanks for sharing

  • Alright basically it's more than an excellent read, it's legendary.. It's got such well written characters with their own personalities. The atmosphere is amazing, and the plot is full of depth.

  • The book is disturbing at some parts, but is over all an excellent read.

  • good movie, real story, more movies about afghanistan please.

  • people from Afghanistan are called Afghans not Afghanis. Afghani is a monetary unit.

  • I could listen to you both for hours, i afghan too. very charming yeah.

  • its as corny as hell of a story lol

  • you obviously did not read the book

  • Typical male ! Lorenzo missed the whole point of the movie.

It's main point as I see it is about the unhumanity of mankind: How we turn a blind eye when a crime is perpetrated in front of us. Marcia was able to see it somehow. It is a great movie

go and see it and read the book.

  • Read the book, saw the film...both excellent...Yes,I think Lorenzo was wrong...It could just as easily have been about 2 boys, friends,of the same social class...One boy adores his friend,is abused by bullies, and the other friend does nothing.

  • I love the way they kibble, its corny as hell this story/i love it ;)

  • Dear Marcia and Lorenzo !

Wonderful review. Thank you, New England Nelle

  • Thanks...nice to have these types of sensible reviews so one can then build and evaluate and decide.....am reading the book now....

  • Look at all the liquor on the shelf behind these guys. Are Patsy and Eddie coming over? Seriously, thank you both for sophisticated movie reviews and for proving age has the advantage of experience and wisdom.

  • What was that jab at writers being cowards? I'd like to hear more... haha

  • i find both of your discussions highly valid and ultimately charming

  • You two are wonderful. It is refreshing to see such civil disagreement.

  • These people are amazing!

  • the book was stupid i hated it

the main character is a jackass (amir) and the nice guy's(hassan) life is in shambles the entire time.

  • Excellent review.

  • You both are hilarious and wonderful. - Nick, ABC23

  • Great insight into this movie....also I agree the rescue seemed like an aftermath.

  • what a wonderful pair of characters you are!

  • i agree that amir's problem with hassan had everything to do with class.

  • Geezer dude could at least comb the little bit of hair on his dome. Definitely projects an attitude which is cool.

  • One mistake Marcia: it was Jack Warner who said, "A tree is a tree, shoot it in Griffith Park"!

  • should read the book. i really want to read it, havent seen this film but i want to read it first

  • I absolutely agree with the reviewer's last comment that it is corny as hell. I have read the first few chapters and do not really understand what was the buzz surrounding the book about except that the story must seemed very exotic to Americans who many of them knew very little about cultures of other nationalities. It is not too bad as story goes but definitely not worth so much attention.

  • You've read the first few chapters and already find it corny...pfft. Obviously the book did something right seeing as it was a best seller. I thought the book was damn good.

  • "Exotic" has nothing to do with it, but rather readers identifying with others, regardless of race or creed. I felt like the book was wonderfully written, bringing a foreign culture to life in such a way that made it seem like home. Also, I was living in a village in Azerbaijan when I read it, flat out proving your theory about ignorance breeding a misplaced interest wrong.

  • Tears were flowing out of my eyes, when i was reading the book. If one gets deeper in the story, he will understand basic causes of the current misery in Afghanistan. I can see clearly what changed the colorful life in Kabul to the present-day situation. I think watching the movie or reading the book is not basically a means of entertainment, but a message for our allies to put their most generous efforts to bring us back that life. We have suffered a lot.

  • i cried as well.. the book was amazing.

  • Um not what he said, but he already said it who gave thumbs down?

  • My favorite critics

  • I love listening to people talk about film when they clearly love the medium. Thank you for making these videos!
