Still, whether there is a build up of speed for a hit or not, there is constant physical contact without pads to cushion the impact. Aside from tackles, there are mauls, rucks and scrums, which require a lot of contact.

Watch a rugby league and you'll see some players average 40 tackles in ONE game. NFL analysts think a defensive player plays well if he makes like 8-12. Lastly, Rugby players play OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.

Having played all three, rugby, league and football, theres no difference in intensity between them. I could do the same tackle in all 3, and it would be a big hit in all 3. Rules are what make the difference and padding makes up for footballs lack of rules rugby and league have regarding tackling, eg. tackling in the air, head highs. I'd be nervous to play ice hockey, but thats cause i cant skate. As for aussie rules, hard game as well but i cant get over those shorts. 4 more years aussie!

I saw a sports science on ESPN where they measured the impact of a rugby hit vs an American football hit. Sorry rugby fans it wasn't even close, an American Football player hits are significantly more powerful. Plus, many statistics are showing the helmets are causing more injuries because defense uses them as weapons. So if you are going to speak try to be intelligent. I might add the only reason I saw this video is because I am trying to get into rugby.
I saw the same show. Unbelievably unscientific. They compared how hard someone was hit from a rugby player and american football player right? With the american football player being quite well known, and the rugby players being from some trash US rugby team. Also, the rugby player dumped tackled the guy, which is no way near as hard hitting as a straight up rib breaker.
NFL players probably do hit harder though, as they are built for such a purpose and have some extra weight through padding. The difference is, in Rugby; when you get mauled and stamped on by 5 6ft5 110kg+ dudes, you have to get up and do it all over again. No helmets to stop your face getting trampled on, no pads to ease the squeeze from all those players falling on top of you, and no breaks afterwards. Try that for 80 minutes, then compare it to getting hit hard once or twice.
nothing great about some of the NFL hits that led with the helmet, totally illegal & shows a complete disrespect for a fellow athlete & seriously endangers their well being. There is some rules in rugby that stop people getting to fucked up tackling the player in the air is a no no, picking them up off there legs and dumping them head first is a no no and shoulder charging in union seems to be ruled out as bad these days to. You see some of them hits NFL players put on and think holy shit is that guy dead, but if you take the helmets most of the pads away you will not see guys so eager to charge head first like a missle at you.
pad or no pads, what's better in tackling in my opinion is technique rugby there postioning themselves effectively use of strength, whereas hockey NFL lacrosse etc. they're just running aimlessly into one another using their momentum to get the hit in

@denis1110 They are different sports.... Some great rugby players tried to play American Football and no one wanted them. I have also seen some ridiculously strong AF players. However, their conditioning is different to a rugby player... It's not so much that Rugby is better, its just you prefer Rugby. This is coming from an Australian who loves both sports.

@denis1110 but you see for futbol thats the beauty of the game when we dive, we use physicality but also trickery. obviously rugby players hit harder and are much stronger,a futbol wouldn't survive in there games but it is also 2 different animals.

I saw a sports science on ESPN where they measured the impact of a rugby hit vs an American football hit. Sorry rugby fans it wasn't even close, an American Football player hits are significantly more powerful. Plus, many statistics are showing the helmets are causing more injuries because defense uses them as weapons. So if you are going to speak try to be intelligent. I might add the only reason I saw this video is because I am trying to get into rugby.

I saw the same show. Unbelievably unscientific. They compared how hard someone was hit from a rugby player and american football player right? With the american football player being quite well known, and the rugby players being from some trash US rugby team. Also, the rugby player dumped tackled the guy, which is no way near as hard hitting as a straight up rib breaker.

NFL players probably do hit harder though, as they are built for such a purpose and have some extra weight through padding. The difference is, in Rugby; when you get mauled and stamped on by 5 6ft5 110kg+ dudes, you have to get up and do it all over again. No helmets to stop your face getting trampled on, no pads to ease the squeeze from all those players falling on top of you, and no breaks afterwards. Try that for 80 minutes, then compare it to getting hit hard once or twice.

There is some rules in rugby that stop people getting to fucked up tackling the player in the air is a no no, picking them up off there legs and dumping them head first is a no no and shoulder charging in union seems to be ruled out as bad these days to. You see some of them hits NFL players put on and think holy shit is that guy dead, but if you take the helmets most of the pads away you will not see guys so eager to charge head first like a missle at you.

All I'm saying is the reason why certain people on the cricket pitch are wearing protective clothing is because, especially if it's a fast bowler (Which is 91+ mph) and that hits you.. that could do some serious damage. Let alone after the hit if it somehow lands on your head, you're a goner.

TheodoreRoosevelt was going to ban the sport because on average 30 players died and over 300 career ending injuries happened EACH year in college FB. The forward pass and the ability to block your opponent makes football a FAR more dangerous game then rugby.Even with pads football is more dangerous.Your more likely to small injuries in rugby (cuts,bruises,etc.)than in football but are more likely to get seriously injured in football.
