  • If you go faster then the crests you create you will trigger a sonic boom which means you go faster then sound.

  • life saver. you make studying so much easier

  • I love you sal :D as hard it was in the book. U made it that much easier and understandable

  • thanks so much :)

  • Thank you for doing this! This really helped me with my Science coursework. (:

  • i just see boobs

  • That's exactly what you experience when you sit at, maybe, a train crossing. Be careful not to sit too close. XD

You sir are a genius, thanks..

  • wow presentation has improved very nice and as always good explanation

  • You explain this so well!! Thank you!

  • Wow, perfect explanation.

  • everytime i watch your videos i think "why didnt i think of this?"

  • BIG BANG THEORY best show ever

  • Sal, that was a mind-blowing explanation!!!!! Thanks :)

  • Sal sounds really stoned around 00:06

  • OMG It all makes sense now, it's so easy when this guy explains it! I had the jist of it before, but this cements the concepts.

This guy is so damn smart, it blows my mind...

  • Thank you so much!!

  • When I was a kid I wondered why when you looked at the night sky it wasn`t completely white, if space was infinite everywhere you looked there would eventually be a star.

Then I read a book (by Hoyle I think) explaining that because the universe was expanding (understood by Hubble`s observations), and solar systems were moving away from us, the further away the faster, and that the furthest where shifted out of the visual spectrum.

Nice to see people thinking about the same crazy crap I do.

  • @schizophrenic123 That has nothing to do with the Doppler Effect.

  • @seabm4 Not directly to do with doppler, but i'm assuming he meant "red shift" :)

stars moving away appear to have a different color due to the doppler effect, because light has a wavelength as well. :D

  • @schizophrenic123

    it is not crap

  • sal what do you do when you dont make videos?? do you have a job??

  • @luistr01 He's working for himself now. This is his job!

  • @luistr01 In his MIT talk he mentioned he recently got a pretty hefty grant. Looks like he'll be making videos full time for a while longer!

  • great explanation, I can't wait for your next video on what I think is the most counter-intuitive formula ever created (doppler effect formula). If you can manage to explain that one which even my prof couldn't properly do, you are officially the best teacher ever. Well okay you sort of already are. Cheers!

  • @Gabrielfane

You mean that Lamda will reach zero?

And the frequency will be infinety?

  • @GabrielFane

"sonic boom", like Guile from Street Fighter 2?

  • I'm looking forward to your take on the relativistic EM doppler shift.

  • What will happen if the source of the sound reachs the speed of sound?

  • Are you from pakistan

  • @kjunaa

  • @kjunaa

  • Well done Sal. I learned this in physics, but this is a much better explanation than my teacher gave.

  • y khan!!!! you made this hours after my test!!!!

  • so what the wave travles with the sorce? if so then nice demo
