I'm not big on history, but I know a little of my own People. Any way, I saw a comment below, and saw that person said something like, "I wonder what would've happened if "we" had just listened to the white man." Then I could'nt read anymore, cause it kinda made me sick. I have nothing against that person who made the comment, cause I don't know him/her, but these white are taught to hate "us", within there homes, around there dinner tables, so why...
why can't "we" do the same, I mean we never stop. "We" kept fighting, "we" never became slaves, they threatened to take "our" children away, which they did. That's how they kept "us" from fighting back. "We" were swindled, murdered, raped, humiliated. I wonder what would've happened if "we" had kept them from coming here? At least "we" can say 1-thing. "We" were feared, and to this day "we" are still 1-one of the most hated races, why? Because "we" never stopped fighting the white man.
I often wonder how life would be today if instead of killing them the europeans would have listened to them. We preach tolerance today but back then it was needed most of all. We could have learned so much from them and together we could have made a greater America. Yes there would have been problems still but at least the true national treasure of this land, all Native Americans could have had a better brighter future. Love & respect to them all!!!
This part of North American history has me so upset. It makes me sick that people have been allowed to get away with it for so long. I am ashamed to be a white man in Canada--not knowing how all of this 'wealth' was able to become mine. We have stolen from.... The past. Hi guys. I am a university student and currently i am writing an assignment about the Wounded Knee Massacre. I am supposed to base the assignment on primary texts only, which unfortunately are hard to find. Do any of you know where to find such stories from participants of the war? @RikkeLP Hi Rikke. The best book I ever read was called Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown. You may already know it - apologies if you do. It's still widely available in paperback. I read it a long time ago and can't remember now, what first hand accounts are therein, but I'm sure the author will have acknowledged the sources. I was so moved by that book, I wrote a song. "Wounded Knee by Keith Beasley" which is now on You Tube. You might find the story interesting.Cheers.
Sounds like the Ghost Dance was an 1880s American Indian version of a modern religious cult. They made up a story about dancing to bring back the past, and gave their followers false hope that led to most of them getting killed. David Koresh sound familiar?
I think the problem with most people is their lack of empathy. Empathy I believe, is the key to eliminating all kinds of evil from the world, because no one likes to suffer or be treated badly, so we need to treat others as we would like to be treated, by putting ourselves in their place and literally live with our imaginations how it would be like to be int he life or place of someone else.This is what everyone needs to do, which seldom anyone does.

Asians did it, Africans did it, even indigenous American tribes did it to each other in pre Columbian times. The concept of coexistence with other cultures is relatively new, and Western civilization has embraced it just as well as any other culture has. It just came too late to save the American Indians.

Every bleeding heart cries for the Natives but yet the seem to forget that the Indians were doing the same thing to other tribes and white settlers....so I shed no tears for something that happened long before I was born. A primitive people will either adapt to new ways or perish, that's just the law of human nature.
I always thought it was a glorious conquest of the west and it was the right of Americans to murder this stupid scum - savages which were always drunken and had the effrontery to attack the settlers which were stealing their land.
But maybe I read to many American history books and watched too many John Wayne films.

I often wonder how life would be today if instead of killing them the europeans would have listened to them. We preach tolerance today but back then it was needed most of all. We could have learned so much from them and together we could have made a greater America. @RikkeLP Hi Rikke. The best book I ever read was called Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown. You may already know it - apologies if you do. It's still widely available in paperback. I read it a long time ago and can't remember now, what first hand accounts are therein, but I'm sure the author will have acknowledged the sources. I was so moved by that book, I wrote a song. "Wounded Knee by Keith Beasley" which is now on You Tube. You might find the story interesting.Cheers.
