  • Where's the f'n song!!??

  • This is mistitled. not the song at all

  • 'The airport giveth, the airport taketh away....'

  • Rick's reachin lil too hard...

  • Really though, think about it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, this guy has been playing a long time, fingers don't move fast forever. ck out EVH, Ted nugent, the red rocker, now days,

We get old, but what these guys brought to rock can not be redone... some have tried an some shit head label will make a lot of money off them, in 2010 rock sucks..

  • Ha...you People who weren't even born yet when we were going to these Guys Concerts all think EVH invented it all. Sorry , not so! EVH definitely took Guitar playing to a different level, but the Guys he learned it from were around many years before he came of age!

  • 1 hit wonder in Billboard. Hit #12. God bless!

  • one song does not make a PLAYER>>>>he has many!! and Lots of credits...so big deal this is self indulgent..it doesn't happen often with him i've seen him play 45 times over the yrs,,grow guys!

  • I've seen RD play with White Trash and Edgar Winter, WTF is this supposed to be.

  • Comment removed

  • reminds me of a guy playing in his basement derringer should have stayed on drugs

  • nope that sort of shit anyone can do plugged in, no talent shown off that scotch ridden drunk

  • haha the solo's a little different... reminds me of jimmy page when he's drunk.

  • Im a big Rick Derringer fan but as for this solo maybe it would be cool if it was 1979 but for 2009 it seems a little dated. Still rick is one of the greats and i would love to see him live.

  • so where's the fucking song?

  • Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm......warm up?

  • It is but the sound is after...

  • Yeah Fy I know what you are saying........

  • this isn't him.

  • Saw the great Edgar Winter at the Tulalip Casino last year..what a spectacular performance! Pure musical genius. He has not lost a bit of it...Got a big applause when he entered the Casino! He earned everyones respect let there be no doubt...

Derringer still has the licks and the class that is why he is one of the great Guitar Gods!!!

  • Like to see Eddy Van Halen play like that when he's Rick's age. Eddy looks like an old washed out woman years ago.

  • @rr4611 Hell, he can't even do it now. Derringer can play circles around him.

  • that sucked I thought it was a "shred" video too HAHAHAH

  • :D amazing.

  • I honestly thought this was one of those "shreds" videos... , wow just wow.

  • Long time a'go...Rick Derringer was a good guitarplayer... ;) I remember when he playd with Great Johnny Winter...

  • your mom was the first one!

  • no yours! (=

  • but hes not dough dunno what its called in english but its a certain tecnique.

  • It's called "harmonics" A real guitarist will know what that means..

  • no not "harmonics" in swedish its called "flasholetter"

  • Flasholetter it is!

  • TY :)

  • how the hell do you tap like that?!

  • His tapping was nothing spectacular. It was pretty basic.

Now if its tapping you like go check out stanley jordan, chris broderick's 8 finger tapping betcha cant play this and his cover of mozart.

  • I saw Derringer open for Led Zep at the Oakland Colusium back in the 70's. He tore them up. Seriously, he came out and just sliced and diced them to pieces. Second, as far as who invented tapping, Paganini was doing it on his violin back in the early 1800's and guitarist soon copied.Jim Webster recorded it in the 50's so EVH invented nothing. He moved it along but it's not his invention.

  • Never Realized Rick was such a bad-assed guitarist...

  • I saw him in Red Lodge, MT with Joan Jett about 7 years ago. That was an awesome show. Rick blew me away with his guitar skills and Joan Jett blew me away with her hotness!

  • According to Rick it was actually Eddie that picked up the tapping from him when Van Halen supported Derringer back in the mid 70s.

  • wow

  • Sure is isn't it good ear i mised it til i read ur comment

  • RICK...

    RIP IT UP BROTHER!

    PEACE and LOVE,

    Randy

  • I saw him with Sammy Hagar in the 70's!

  • he lives in front of me!!! not kidding

  • maybe you're onto something here..

  • A very underrated guitar God. I was lucky enough to see him in 77, kick ass.

  • If you want to hear some really tasty lead guitar work from Derringer, check out the outro solo on "Funky Music", from Johnny Winter's 1970 album "Johnny Winter And" (not the live album). It's him & Winter trading guitar licks, but Derringer dominates - has a thicker tone & uses the wah wah pedal a bit. The song is on youtube. It's old school playing, not this Van Halen type shit here.

  • easy with the van halen licks your good in the 70s peter frampton got down

  • Cheney Hall is in Manchester, CT

  • I've heard that Rick did all the solo work for side 4 of KISS' Alive II. Ace was too drunk.

  • DAMN! I never knew Rick could shred!

  • he could shred before there were shredders!

  • tell me whose Eddie Van Halen learned

  • huh?

  • I meant, looks like Eddie Van Halen learned to shred guitar watchig Rick

  • could be.i saw him doing it yrs before van halen!

  • If I remember correctly, I saw Rick Deringer on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ with the McCoys playing their hit "Hang On Sloopy"! Can anyone verify?

  • go mallorys dad....WOOOOOOOO

  • Just saw Rick last nite at the Windsor Blues Fest. One of the best concerts I've seen in a while! I'm an old dude wannabe and I love great guitar playing and Rick has always been on of my favs. What the hell is wrong with Ricky shredding it up? I love it and it shows he can play anything on guitar.

Besides being a great player, his show just rocks! Only 3 guys up there and the ouput was unbelievable! That's a testimony to their great muscianship. Go see Ricky live first and then commnet!

  • This comment and the last one below it are probably the smartest I've seen posted on You Tube.. Thanks for the injection of intelligence!

    Oh....WE LOVE YOU MAL!!!!!

  • Hi Mallory, anyone posting abusive language can be removed and blocked. Just give me a heads up. Hope you're well! Missed seeing you in Willimantic.

    Jim Whitehouse

  • @jwhiteho223 do you remember when Rick opened for Van Halen and they kicked him off the tour for being a rip-off? Just read Everybody Wants Some The Van Halen Saga. Turn to page 56. lol

  • @cbgou812 Rick ( showed the formula) recorded You really got me with a guitar solo introduction,Before Van Halen was formed...You would be correct say Rick REALLY helpd launch Van Halen. He covered the cover in one of Rick's styles. I would give credit to the producer .Ed is a great player but it seems he has selective memory. Hope to hear great new album from him soon!

  • wow nice choice of words...really appropriate. can you sink any lower than u already have?

  • wow hold on a sec....this is MY FATHER you're talking about. He is a great guitarist and yea hes 61 and more pwer to him if he can still "shread" like the young ones. oh and for your information this is rock and roll hoochie koo...i should know...i was there with him that night. and yes my name is Mallory Derringer...wow you do people have to be so stuck up.

  • I didnt say anything bad about Rick. I've always liked him. It is just that shredding playing is so meaningless for most of us old guys like me. Rick plays brilliant without shredding, he was famous long time before shredding was even invented.

  • Your dad is the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen...Saw him in 78 (day on the green with Zeppelin) in Oakland. We knew who he was back in the day, he never sold out...That's why he is one of the greatest of all time...

"I've got bloodstains on my fingers"...Yes!! Well done

  • Can't help but comment on this one. I'm partially deaf from listening to Rick and Johnny on their roadwork album at full volume with my old koss headphones (lol). Rick was and is one hell of a guitar talent and he's one of the remaining guitar Gods that people can take ONE look at and say ... "Oh wow, thats Rick Derringer". One of my all time faves for sure...

  • You got that right! Saw him do it live twice at least 10 years apart & he really

tore it up! After seeing him live, I believe he belongs with the the remaining guitar gods!

  • Hey Mallory!

I grew up listening and learning all his stuff ! loved it Still do! From way back to now... never got to see him live though... Damn!

One of my all time favorites... I play a few of his songs. Tell Pops thanks for all the great music and guitar playing, he was a huge influence and inspiration to me!

  • uh... this isn't rock and roll hoochie koo... but... still good

  • Im going to a concert next month with this guy, Night Ranger, Styx, Boston, and Allan Parsons project.

  • Near buffalo? Cause i live near buffalo and work at a bar called Taboo they are having all them at a concert.

  • If you're a Rick Derringer fan, I need some input. I just got the guy to sign my standard stratocaster made in indonesia. how much do you think that'll fetch (assuming the Strat is in good condition)?

  • if you like rick derringer and edgar winter i have a cool cd from a benefit show that was put on for rick a week after his equipment truck was stolen from him in 1983 from nyc. edgar winter, ian hunter dr. john as well rick performed. if interested in details and getting a full list of rare classic rock concerts on dvd please send me a message via youtube for details and list

  • who gives a shit about "EVH", this is a bomb ass solo

  • One 0f my favorite Derringer solo`s of all time was the lead guitar trade off`s on the song Beyond the universe !Really heavy for it`s time...

  • Tapping was done LONG before EVH was even BORN!!!

  • So you're saying people were tapping before 1955? I think you might pushing it just a tad.

  • Dude - Classical players were tapping in the 1800's. It's nothing new. It's a trick to play a single string arpegio. Generally it's three notes to a chord and three notes to a tap. The same notes of the chords are the ones your tap. I know there are exceptions but that's chords & tapping at their most basic, Rick had tapping covered way before EVH. EVH moved it forward but he didn't invent it.

  • Steve Hackett was doing it before Either of them. Check out Genesis Return of the Giant Hogweed.

  • Steve Hacket was awesome but I doubt he was doing it before Paganini. Paganini was born in 1782. He had the same legend that Robert Johnson had about selling his soul for his talent. If you're a player and want a chop builder exercise, get some Paganini and copy his licks. You'll come away with some cool one and two string licks but get ready to work. He's amazing. Was.

  • Of course. I was refering to Derringer and Van Halen.

How did you hear Paganini if there are no recordings? Did he make charts?

  • It was charted out and the technique was documented. And God only knows where he learned it from! Since man first stood upright and took a stick and beat on a hollow log everybody has been expanding on those first beats. As far as hearing Paginini, I'm 314 years old dude. I saw him live!! :) Seriously, how has anyone heard Mozart or Beethoven? Check out the P-man, he was the rocker of his day.

  • So you're saying Paganini was the Yngwie of his time?

    Nice. . .

  • Sorry ace, but EVH didn't invent tapping. I know. Shocking.

  • evh was the first one to put tapping on a record, so he didnt invent it really.

  • he was doin that way before evh, infact hes a better guitar player.

  • i can read real music for guitar....its just alot easier to find tabs online rather than sheet music....pwned

  • I know Rick very well.. He did the tapping long before EVH, but he does the tap thing in his solo as a tribute to Eddie.

  • EVH didnt invent tapping he perfected it ppl where tapping long before EVH was

  • can anyone please tell me where I can get the tabs for this song...please....!!!

  • What I mean is for this exact solo please!!

  • one of john winters proteg'es

  • A born guitarist. Remarkably talented guy.

  • 1 hit wonder

  • Actually, Rick Derringer is usually very good and I like his music. But after the McCoys, his best work was with Johnny Winter And. That was his element.

I didn't like this video. He's great as a second guitarist, but I don't think he's really meant to carry a show on his own. Just my opinion.

  • Rick is awesome! Those of you tards that are unfamiliar with Rick should realize he was 16 recorded Hang on sloopy(like it or not)was acknowledged by Hendrix,Duanne to name a few,he may be showing age, so u should check out his Derringer Live cd, it kicks. and as far as the comparism with Eddie 2 different styles, both great!and oh by the way Eddie is showing some wear n tear also. Rick forgot more then u retards will ever know. Rick Rocks!

  • Its so damn funny? Rick noodles. and Johnny can say it in three notes. I think thats why hes always been pissed off. hey rick? you aint Johnny.

  • haha my mom hates this song but i like it. but i can totally see how someone would hate this song and find it so annoying.

  • Crap

  • EVH and him are from the same Era, actually.... both great players.. this one doesn't show his best stuff. he played the solo on Wierd Al's Eat it, but actually has played on a lot of great stuff b4 and after.

For those who do not play guitar, please keep an open mind, it's not as easy as you think ;-p

  • can't agree with this reply more. do keep an open mind for music, it's how it thrives!

  • Do keep an open mind for Wierd Al. Garduated high school @ 16. Just maybe he has have a brain in his head.

  • better than Eddie? He doesn't even compare to Laiho much less Eddie.

  • You think he's better than Eddie....

what a genius you are pal.

  • Thanks for noticing..

  • I saw Rick years ago when Van Halen's first album came out and he fronted them. I think he's a better play than Eddie. The guy is great.

  • damm that sherding was sic my friend can sherd just like him.

  • What did you say?

  • hes rally good, but man has age took a toll on him, i miss his hair.(im looking at my sweet Evil album).

  • HOLY SHIT! He's good

  • Derringer rules!

  • Why does the title say Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo while it is somethin else??

  • It's a solo from Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo.

  • Amazing

  • my uncle is the drummer =) hes tom curiale

  • Wow! He's still cute after all these years!!!! I love you.

  • I had no idea that he was this good! Wow!

  • You have to agree, Rick has a career from playing guitar for the last forty years, and no one has ever heard of you.

  • ricks rocks forever!

  • I watched old steams video.... what a waste of time.Your guitar player could learn a few things about Rhythm and tone if he listened to some Derringer!

  • He's old, means what exactly...that he has honed his skills for over 35 years & is a master of his instrument! When people use someone's age as a negative critic, it usually means they are jealous of that person's ability as compared to their own, and feel threatened...Breaking News: Youth don't last forever, and the more you fear time, the harder it'll be to accept it when it comes a knockin...

  • wow... nice

  • yea but he rocks more than u ever will

  • He's old.

  • Ricardo Van Halen
