Really though, think about it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, this guy has been playing a long time, fingers don't move fast forever. ck out EVH, Ted nugent, the red rocker, now days,
We get old, but what these guys brought to rock can not be redone... some have tried an some shit head label will make a lot of money off them, in 2010 rock sucks..
Ha...you People who weren't even born yet when we were going to these Guys Concerts all think EVH invented it all. Sorry , not so! EVH definitely took Guitar playing to a different level, but the Guys he learned it from were around many years before he came of age!
one song does not make a PLAYER>>>>he has many!! and Lots of credits...so big deal this is self indulgent..it doesn't happen often with him i've seen him play 45 times over the yrs,,grow guys!
Im a big Rick Derringer fan but as for this solo maybe it would be cool if it was 1979 but for 2009 it seems a little dated. Still rick is one of the greats and i would love to see him live.
Saw the great Edgar Winter at the Tulalip Casino last year..what a spectacular performance! Pure musical genius. He has not lost a bit of it...Got a big applause when he entered the Casino! He earned everyones respect let there be no doubt...
Derringer still has the licks and the class that is why he is one of the great Guitar Gods!!!
I saw Derringer open for Led Zep at the Oakland Colusium back in the 70's. He tore them up. Seriously, he came out and just sliced and diced them to pieces. Second, as far as who invented tapping, Paganini was doing it on his violin back in the early 1800's and guitarist soon copied.Jim Webster recorded it in the 50's so EVH invented nothing. He moved it along but it's not his invention.
I saw him in Red Lodge, MT with Joan Jett about 7 years ago. That was an awesome show. Rick blew me away with his guitar skills and Joan Jett blew me away with her hotness!
If you want to hear some really tasty lead guitar work from Derringer, check out the outro solo on "Funky Music", from Johnny Winter's 1970 album "Johnny Winter And" (not the live album). It's him & Winter trading guitar licks, but Derringer dominates - has a thicker tone & uses the wah wah pedal a bit. The song is on youtube. It's old school playing, not this Van Halen type shit here.
If I remember correctly, I saw Rick Deringer on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ with the McCoys playing their hit "Hang On Sloopy"! Can anyone verify?
Just saw Rick last nite at the Windsor Blues Fest. One of the best concerts I've seen in a while! I'm an old dude wannabe and I love great guitar playing and Rick has always been on of my favs. What the hell is wrong with Ricky shredding it up? I love it and it shows he can play anything on guitar.
Besides being a great player, his show just rocks! Only 3 guys up there and the ouput was unbelievable! That's a testimony to their great muscianship. Go see Ricky live first and then commnet!
@jwhiteho223 do you remember when Rick opened for Van Halen and they kicked him off the tour for being a rip-off? Just read Everybody Wants Some The Van Halen Saga. Turn to page 56. lol
@cbgou812 Rick ( showed the formula) recorded You really got me with a guitar solo introduction,Before Van Halen was formed...You would be correct say Rick REALLY helpd launch Van Halen. I didnt say anything bad about Rick. I've always liked him. It is just that shredding playing is so meaningless for most of us old guys like me. Rick plays brilliant without shredding, he was famous long time before shredding was even invented.
Your dad is the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen...Saw him in 78 (day on the green with Zeppelin) in Oakland. We knew who he was back in the day, he never sold out...That's why he is one of the greatest of all time...

Can't help but comment on this one. I'm partially deaf from listening to Rick and Johnny on their roadwork album at full volume with my old koss headphones (lol). Dude - Classical players were tapping in the 1800's. It's nothing new. It's a trick to play a single string arpegio. Generally it's three notes to a chord and three notes to a tap. Steve Hacket was awesome but I doubt he was doing it before Paganini. Paganini was born in 1782. He had the same legend that Robert Johnson had about selling his soul for his talent.
