Whoops, I didn't splice that right. "because when crash tested, these are the least safe vehicles on the road." was supposed to be after the part about big rig drivers dieing in collisions with 3000 lb cars. Sorry for any confusion. My post was too long and I had to split it. The first post should have stopped at "superior design".
The Caprice is one of the safest cars ever built, as multiple crash tests performed by the NHTSA and the IIHS can attest to. The 1991 models and newer, up to it's unfortunate demise, had even better results because of the addition of airbags to the already superior design. because when crash testes, these are the least safe vehicles on the road.
Even if all this were not true, however, when comparing two cars in their "crashworthiness", it helps to understand this fact. The crash tests are against fixed barriers, so the test simulates a car crashing into another car of the same mass. Ergo, a large car with a relatively low score is still safer in a collision with a high rated smaller vehicle, because mass dictates who looses. If this were not so, big rig drivers would always die in collisions with 3,000 lb passenger cars,
@KillanatorVids u r fucking retarded, a new unibody frame built car cant with stand what 80's & 90's caprices can. do some research, watch a couple of crash test videos of these cars then talk what u know.
@retained4321 No, you are "Fucking retarded"... If there was an impact between these two cars, of course the occupants in the modern car would have less injuries!
OK
1. In old cars there was weak or no crumple zones, making all the forces from the crash come to the driver an passenger
2. Old cars had bad or no seatbelts, no airbag
3. Maybe the Focus would be more smashed on the outside, but the people in the caprice would have been squeeshed on the inside.
@stonee206 I know this is an old comment, but this isn't true. Yes the car does have 'crumple zones' but why does it need them? because it's so small and compact and made of less dense material it needs them. A big old caprice doesn't because it is made of steel, and there is so much space between the front bumper and the driver it's ridiculous. Not to mention the internal 'push bar' design inside of the car where the bumpers are. In a head on the focus would be desecrated by a 2 ton caprice..
@airsoftmama A couple weeks back I hit a deer going between 85 and 95 in my caprice.. deer busted my headlight and dented my fender... hell drove my car about 300 miles before I took off the fender and fixed the dents haha Stronger than an OX and has a 350 Police Interceptor engine! OOOOO YAAAA Lets see ANY modern CAR or TRUCK hit a deer at that speed and require no more than a headlight bulb and Headlight glass
@tdatitan awe yeah. I wish mine had the 350 in it, sadly just the 305. but it's better on gas with the cat punched out - and since it's my daily drive, its not to bad. I've never hit a deer in mine, come close, but not yet I have hit assorted foxes and small game, including a chevy aveo ;) ahaha. but that was a near miss. i would have felt bad for them but that would have taught them not to back out in front of me haha.
the Caprice is still bein' made, but not in the U.S.....saudi arabia and australia is where they're actually bein' made and has somewhat the same body design as the current impala, but performs way better I'm sure....so I think it's time for GM to actually take a hint and bring back the caprice....
no its not, it stopped production in 1996 the holdens in saudia arabia for some reason just carry the name chevrolet caprice which is just stupid there was only ever one true caprice and that came from the USA and not some gm subsidiary in foreign countrys
im not sure you understand that gmh is general motors holden. their cars are basically american cars re badged for a different market. aurtralia is a much more demading climate, and their cars are often built tougher, for instance, the much coverted australian 9 bolt rear that came standard on monaros is the dream of a third gen camaro driver who has the north american 10 bolt that just spit his axles.
i was hpoing that after the caprice backed up, he would floor it and pop the air bags on the fuckus as it careened into a tree, but it didnt, therefore, this video is hekka G A Y 111
Hey rik 747 the Taurus was the best selling car in the U.S. for like ten years and was a huge success for Ford,-also a stock Caprice took over eleven seconds to hit sixty with a 305 v8 in 1990
The cliTaurus was a disaster as a PD car. So bad that Ford swore never to make another front wheel drive V6 police package after they pulled the cliTaurus out of the PD car market for spending more time in the shop then ever on the street. I remember when Dallas PD tried them much to everyones bitter disappointment. Can't find any of these cliTaurus' on the road either BTW. Can't say the same for the Caprice!
A Chevy can always outlast a Ford. Caprice always beat the Crown Vic in EVERY catagory! Just look at PD car tests for proof of the Ford VS Chevy argument! Except I admit at least Ford still makes a RWD V8 PD car unlike Chevy. Give me a break 'AndyTaurus'. Just so you know, the Taurus was one of the worst cars ever made and was a rotten failure of a PD car too!
The Taurus did acually become a PD car in 1989. Ever see one go 140 mph? I feel that Caprices and Tauruses worked quite well for their time. Be glad that at least they arent crap cars as their newer predesors are.
Apparently, the Caprice is the "dominant" car in this vid, and the Focus driver eventually gives in and lets the alpha-car through. Why? I have no idea. Welcome to Youtube.
Wow. A caprice in Europe? Is that rare?
