  • Man i need to say that you inspire me to train harder, i do your chest, back, shoulders, legs, bicept and tricet training and i can say that they are awsome, i lost so much weight and got so much bigger and im training hard to get ripped, i don't know if you are going to see this but for me you are my favourite bodybuilder!

  • Hahahaha this made my laugh, you know that chinese guy mike chen or something, he keeps talking about the afterburn but never ever explained what it is or how to do it. This guy explained it without bragging about afterburn this and afterburn that, thanks bro :D

  • if you watch the wrong turn movie you would know that even muscular people die

  • this guy is so straight forward and easy to listen, really cool guy! My favorite person to watch for training advice.

  • i love ur tips man subbed :)

  • is it good to go to the gym every day?? i wanna gain weight, so i go to the gym 3 times a week... wrong, isn't it..? what do you think about going to the gym on monday, tuesday wednesday, (got no time on friday) and saturday? (thursday and sunday are both off days)

  • i think cardio is a tool..

  • Yu hav sum very good videos to learn from iv subscribed

  • there is one more thing about cardio so so few people know, I am lucky I found out the secret. a hint: you can run every other day for only 7 minutes and only burn 100 calories but you can eat 1500 more calories without gaining one ounce of fat

  • @leviterande the reason what you wrote works is because after you do cardio, your metabolism is increased temporarily. Higher metabolism means you burn more calories. Running every other day helps maintain this elevated metabolism allowing you to consume more calories. All of this is also known as the after burner effect.

  • @leviterande yes afterburn but not only that, its some hormon change in you body that react to your running. your body realises that it needes to works faster and shed weight after you have your run fast.

  • This video is simply wrong. Your body doesn't start burning fat because your HR is elevated. You are using carbs for energy when performing an exercise over 3 minutes.

  • @ciny23 depends on youre HR..

  • i thought carbs= energy?

  • I love you're advice they are so much better to understand and get

  • they are will help you keep proper form ????

    also your cute

  • What a great and useful video, finally I get it now! Awesome!

  • im trying to build muscle, but at the same time trying to lose my body fat it is over 10%, but i dont want to lose weight cause i weigh 124 and i dont want to go under 120 , what should i do ?

  • I think this video is fake. He is wearing a t-shirt. :)

  • Hi Scott please could you give me some advice on how to become a Fitness Model?? i think about being fitness model i am 16so i have enough time i think

and if you could give me some advices i would be really grateful

.....Guys please can you thumbs up so Scott will see????

  • wrong, cardio is by FAR more effective at losing body fat than lifting weights! ATP isn't fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bwidger its not. the afterburn if you do cardio is very low.

  • wrong, cardio is by FAR more effective at losing body fat than lifting weights!

  • lmfao. Twitter @ scott herman while hes lookin around for roof rats

  • Thank you so much for this video!!! I totally thought running cardio was the way to go, i'm trying to loose weight so i average about 35 miles a week, I did do muscle training also but after my 1hr cardio. your videos have jumped started my workouts at the gym. Can't wait to get that body i want before school starts. thanks!!!!

  • This simplifies what I've been looking to learn for a long time. Well said. Simply stated. Thanks!

  • you are a amazing gym trainer on net... respect man..

  • you are a amazing gym trainer on net... respect man..

  • and by the way, this was on fucking helpful video, cheers Scott! you the man!

  • so basically, dont go and just do cardio, try and throw in some circuit training before your treadmill, cross trainer etc, am i right?

  • @scotthermanfitness finally someone just says how it should be done (with no bullshit) this is one of your best vids thanks for the info..

  • damn bro 12 years lol your house is scary man

  • damn bro 12 years

  • your cool as shit man i duno i use to work out soo much i stoped because i got lazzy buh i had bigger balls when i was younger then i do now..my only theory is i stoped working out and lost confidence

  • 15 - 20 reps?

girls cant gain a lot of muscle even if they try, i think most can stand to gain the little they will gain from doing the correct 8 - 10 reps

  • cardio is fun??????????

    weights are!!!!

  • Haha! I know this might not sound verybelievable but while watching this clip @ the part between 2:00 and 3:30 where scott gives a great explanation of WHY there are differances between cardio workouts and mixed sessions i started playing it over and over again(maybe 5 times) because it is the golden answer to the question everyone asks... Then after i let the clip play through :) I see one of Scotts captions SAYING to replay it over and over again because it is a valuable lesson.. NICE SCOTT!

  • A potential exception to this rule would be high intensity cardio. This type of cardio keeps you burning calories for up to a few hours AFTER your training session, and is actually one of the most efficient ways to burn fat, while burning as little energy as possible. This idea is very helpful for people, like myself, who need to hold onto every precious calorie that they have.

  • Well this helped

  • 9 people thought that sweat pouring out of their body is burning fat ! HA

  • Cardio is a tool...

  • so if ur body have nothing to burn it will burn muscles ? and then u get gastric?

  • yes plz next video explain us how to gain weight the right way because atm im eating junkfood alot, but also dropped cola for water so at some points i know im doing right but when ppl bulk up does it matter if they eat like junkfood a few times per week? or should i go on a mealplan, cause i never find any info to gain weight...

  • @tedslodge wow u fail u emo, metalhead kid he looks cool, a look chicks fall for idiot

  • great advice scott thanks!!!

  • Thanks for the great advice...i was wondering the same thing....I needed to hear that precise advice to make my workouts more effective...

  • @screus69 you are very welcome my friend :)

  • hey scott, i know you're talking a bit more about which kind of foods to eat in another video, but would it be possible to give some examples on specific meals? e.g. what do you eat specifically as the day passes? i find myself pretty much eating the same stuff everyday now and could use some variety. however, that seems hard to find if you're trying to eat the right amount of substances.

thanks for the tips, keep up the videos. they're very helpful.

  • @ShowtekGER you can find my mealplan on my BIO on bsnonline(dot)net! :)

  • What about 15-20 min cardio, then split routines throughout the week instead of a whole body circuit? Like 3-5 days. Is it better to do that or is it just for building muscle?

  • Thank you

  • thank you very much for the video scott that helped a lot

  • oooooohhhhhhhh, that cleared up alot

  • what if i just do cardio 30 mind 5 time in one week and eat right like no unhealty food... u go down right?

  • The new captain america trailer is out. I think scott herman would've been a better choice to play steve rogers. lol

  • Great video Scott! Thanks!

  • This seems like a tip for someone thats trying to lose weight.. me im trying to bulk up would help if you can talk about bulking

  • Best trainer ever. definately getting a session if i ever go to new york!

  • Scott Herman is going to heaven, he is the best ever

  • so quick question... i heard that 30 minutes isn't a sufficient amount of time for cardio, i read in an article that you need at least an hour of it most days of the week, which is what i've been doing.. do you think 30 minutes cardio + doing weights everyday can get me to lose weight?? sorry if you've answered this already

  • this video helped me out sooooooo much! i've lost 10 pounds but still have another 20 to go and i was wondering if i should do weights now or wait until i lost the weight first... yaayyy i finally know wtf to do! :P

  • @declerre I dont wanna lose fat I actually want to build muscles but i need to know the tips to make a good progress

  • Scott. i have been watching ur videos for a while they are amazing and i trust your judgment so i have a question. what do if want to get rid of a small layer of fat so that abbs will really pop out. i see 4 abbs when i lift my shirt up and flex but there not as prominent as i want. what do u recommend?

  • out of curiosity if i did 15 minutes of cardio and then did my weights. Afterwards i did even more cardio would it still be good for my elevated heart weight

  • does it work for skinny people?

  • @khristian9292

Why would skinny people have to lose fat??

  • @khristian9292

Why would skinny people have to lose fat??

  • @ScottHermanFitness Is circuit training better than focusing on one area a gym session, for a beginner? There are times when I say "Right today I'm doing gym ball and TRX, other day dumbells and weights (light!), other day will be bike and rower"

  • This really helped me as I was looking for this answer, I was afrais on bulking up too much and look like a man or something. Thanks scott!!!!

  • Case of the mysterious marbles . World wide spooky phenom . ;P

  • hahahaha that roof bit made me laugh what the hell is that lmao

  • Scott, love your videos. I'm a male currently doing 4-day strength training and only cardio (indoor soccer) 1 night. I'm probably about 22% body fat. I'm 5'8" and 156 lbs. Generally speaking, do you think I should do cardio? If so, should I do the target heart rate of no higher than 130bpm? I want to gain muscle without putting on much. I did the BFL program and dropped about 10 pounds but I plateaued after about 8 weeks. I was doing 3 days strength and 3 days of 20-minute HIIT cardio. Thx!

  • @mrjefftoyou sound like the BFL program was working for u the plateau is a very common basicly everything slow down after a while and it seem like ur not getting anywhere but u r the u just have to stick with it. it take time to get where u want just be patience there is no short cut or quick fix. as for target heart rate ignore that go off the 1-10 scale of how u feel 1 is u sitting down and the sofer watching tv and 10 is bing fo tired u cant stand u want to aim for 6

  • @MrSpeedfightRichy you are looking for an injury aren't you

  • hahhaha i love all the annotations saying CARDIO IS A TOOL

  • lmao %#!@

  • ;) Thanks for the tip nice smille btw

  • 1:47 roof foundation cracks.

    6:20 roof collapses.....

  • @JasonGorr the vid ends at 5:41 dummy

  • @xninjazx6r that was the idea... we didn't see it happen. Please expand your narrow Americanized mind.

  • @JasonGorr then why did u say it happened? it never did happen dummy, USA FTW

  • @xninjazx6r I can't argue with an American. I would never get my point across.

  • @JasonGorr well u can still argue wit me cuz im canadian haha

  • @xninjazx6r Not a very nice Canadian...

  • @JasonGorr Well you're not a nice whatever-you-are.

Blindly trashing an entire population is as myopic as a person can be.

  • @nairb2693 I never trashed anyone, I merely said, I couldn't argue with an American, because I would never get my point across.

  • @JasonGorr "expand your narrow Americanized mind"

I have only one reaction to this. I think you can guess what it is.

  • dude love your videos, very informative...........gotta question, cardio before or after workout? which is better? or no difference?

  • @ABC2D2 hey, i would also really like to know abt the cardio sequence...before or after??.....thanx. Also Scott, my sis insists that an early morn workout gives much better results..is it really so?? I hope not...coz am really not an early morn person. Cya.. Mr.ABC2D2....i hope u didnt mind me butting in my query in this manner...ciao

  • you are a great teacher!

  • Hahaha yeah. What the hell was that?

  • this is very informative...explained very simply......thanks Scott for this priceless guideline.....

  • Thank you for this video ... I've spent countless hours trying to convince the women I work with that if they want to get smaller they have to lift weights.

  • The reason your haven't developed bigger muscles is BECAUSE you haven' t been away from the gym for more then 3 days in the last 12 years.

You don't understand the role of recovery in the muscle building process, your way under what your genetic limit would be for muscle growth but you'll never realise it because you never allow recovery and overcompensation to occur.

I see it a lot, to frequent gym use isn't goal driven it obsession drive and counter productive...beware!!!

  • @MrAudity not when he works out different muscle parts over the week. If ou do chest on Mondays, then you have 7 days of rest before it gets used again. I'd say that 7 days is more than enough recovery time. Now, I don't know Scott's exact workout routine, but its pretty obvious that he has, in fact, developed bigger muscles...

  • hey guess what! i love you

  • 1:47 LOL

  • i heard cardio eats away at you muscle, and interval training only takes fat...

  • Dude, I do interval training which speeds up the metabolism, so 30 minutes of hard interval training on the treadmill, will give your metabolism a boost of up to 38 hours, ( You will burn fat of up to 38 hours) BUT If you do Interval training before weight training, you will as you said break down muscle tissue. Which means, if you dont recover properly you will lose active muscle tissue,And muscle tissue burns fat........sooo...

  • sweet.

this video just verified my workout routine.

  • I'm so happy I found this video I've been doing only cardio like 1/2 hours a day for 4/5 weeks not much improvement . Now I know to change it and not do just cardio. Need to learn how to use the other machines now lol

  • scott loving the vids man. please, please can you do a video on what to do if you had a binge day. coz some days i eat way too many calories and dont work it off then i feel guilty for the whole week and ruin my entire week by munching on junk.

    thank you. JB

  • you did look familiar. i saw you on real world booklyn... way to go man, you were one of my favourite housemates... i'm going to follow your tips on how to get back in to shape....

  • Nice muscle shirt:)

  • Hello scott, would it be a bad idea to go for the gym every day and do cardio for 1 hour and then go weight lifting for 1 hour ( only half of the body, and the other half of the body the other day like your talking about)

  • just to add onto scotts comment all you girls that still insist on hitting the cardio equipment instead do anaerobic interval training

this involves any exercise that elevates the heart to 75-90% of your max heart rate

do this exercise for a 2-1 ratio 2 being the exercise 1 being the rest period an example of this is

run for a minute rest for 30..this is a massive metabolism boos but is a sure thing when it comes to keeping your weight gain at bay...nothing beats it.

  • @mattyoung92 very good input Matt :) Thank you! Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • @mattyoung92 rest for 30 MINUTES?

  • LMAO to that noise...wtf SANTASSS ON THE ROOOFF

  • all you guys want the secret to weight loss its as simple as this

EAT INTO A CALORIC DEFICIT ...FIND A BMR CALCULATOR ON THE NET EAT ANY NUMBER BELOW THAT...NO MORE THAN 500 AND YOULL DROP WEIGHT AS SIMPLE AS THAT

dropping weight is purely based of cals in vs cals out so you can do cardio till you face is blue but if your eating more than you burn...bad news..you might drop abit of water weight but once thats gone you'll plateau

as a bonus brisk walk daily at 60% of your max heart rate.

  • @mattyoung92 very true.. but you need to circuit train as well!

  • Hey, awsome videos! I've ecently finished my A Level physical eduacation at high school and alot of what we learnt is what you telling in all your videos... just shows that you know what your talking about and what you telling is true... theres so may bullshit stuff out there and your one of the only ones i've seen talk the truth... LISTEN TO SCOTT HERMAN PEOPLE! haha

  • so if i want to get big musles but wana lost fat and can see my 6 pac abbs really good, so what should i do? do 8 reps and 3 or 4 sets with a big weight but also eat fruit and salas and cardeo? thanks :)

  • I greatly appreciate what u do here on the Tube I've been listening to ur instructional videos as well as your advice and it's definitely paying off, I'm seeing results. I'm tighter all around, eating smaller portions, but more often. Though, I'm not giving up my Mcgriddles (best invention ever!) :p, but I have been making progress in cutting back on junk food and eating healthier. I'm not a big guy, but been wanting to push myself physically and with your help I have.

    Thnx a bunch, you ROCK!

  • Awesome "Words of Wisdom"! Now I know this is a video focusing on how to maintain ur body, but I want tone muscle as well as burn body fat. So my question to u is, could I use this same method of starting on 10-15mins of cardio and circuit training after to burn more fat oppose to only doing cardio alone? u stated that breaking down muscle tissue ur body needs energy=calories to repair itself. So my body would be burning calories after a workout, correct? now does burning calories=burning fat?

  • @Emarksthespot5 its the same thing :) Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks a bunch for all those videos ure making, they are simply awesome and really helpful !! I just wanted to know wat do u think of swimming ? is it a good and effective way of losing fat? And is it good to swim 1km after working out with weights in the gym ? cuz i heard some people say that ure wasting ure whole effort of working out if u do swim afterwards

  • @MugzyMcpot Swimming is great! Totally a total body workout for sure! Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • My mom watched this and she totally loved.

  • @chicolua yeah for your mom!! :) Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • @ScottHermanFitness you are already my friend, Scotty ha ha

  • Awesome tips, thanks dude!

  • @ScottHermanFitness

Oh yeah. Many times bro. Unfortunately my spoken English is not so great and maybe i missed that one. I'm reducing my body fat right now and i was doing cardio before hitting the floor. And some guy told me to do it afterwards.Anyway I'm just a beginner and I learn a lot from u so thank u and good luck.

  • Question: Better do cardio after or before workout with weights?

  • @Litwin1980 did you watch the video??????? Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • Yea i started doing your routine, whole body. So this will help me burn body fat more efficiently then my previous routine? And whats your response to the other post i made? thanks

  • @SuYsauce the video answered this question: Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • Since May this year i have been doing 1hr Cardio followed by upperbody circuit training only and i went from 175lb to 152lb now. I notice my arms are more toned. My meal plan were adequate, ate 4-5 meals a day. Will your schedule help me drop body fat faster then what i have been doing? Thanks.

  • Hi Scott, do u recommend taking whey after circuit training to repair the muscle and will it make the muscle more tone? For losing fat weight,You told me to do 20 min.cardio/circuit train to drop down to 12-14% body fat and do cardio(40min) only in between rest days.Whats the point of doing just cardio on my rest days if you say in the video doing just cardio won't burn the extra calories? Since its only a "tool" for circuit training.

  • im trying to get bigger,im lifting weights but im still the same weight,i jus get more cut,i wanna gain more muscle and gain weight.what should i do differently to gain weight and gain muscle??

  • As a molecular bio grad student, I already know all this. but it can be difficult to maintain such a workout regiment. The trick is to remain persistent no matter what, until you see the results you're looking for. Thank God that I'm in great shape though, I don't want to take it for granted but I want to encourage everyone else to stay committed and keep at it until you see the results, and eat healthy too. nutrition is vital element for lean muscle growth and toning too.

  • At first you asked "why take the protein" when i said i am planning to take whey...now you say i don't understand the importance...i understand you need protein/eating more/weight gain training for muscle gain...so do you think i should follow my schedule which targets both my goals or do goal 1 first then goal 2? And essentially are you saying if i target goal 1 first (circuit train/cardio to get down to 10-14% fat) taking the whey protein is pointless as i wont grow?

  • As you can see I'm trying to hit both my goals at once. Does my schedule work or the body doesn't concurrently work that way? OR it has to be 1 goal at a time? Goal 1, just focus on Circuit Train 3 days, 3 days 40 min. cardio ONLY. Rest 7th day to get down to 10-15% body fat first, NO Whey?. Then Goal 2, Muscle gain work out to get bigger cut upper body, Eat more/Whey shake after? Your guidance would help a lot!!! Sorry for so many questions, your prolly annoyed lol, I'm such a newbie..

  • And essentially are you saying doing the circuit train/cardio schedule you suggested, then taking whey after would be pointless? as i wont get bigger because im eating 4-5 smaller meals only?

Whats your opinion on this schedule i made up, 6 days 20 min cardio, Whey shake after. rest 7th day. Day1,3,5= 4-5 smaller meals, Circuit train=Core/ab,Back,Legs. Day2,4,6=4-5 smaller meals but more protein foods= Muscle gain train = Chest,Shoulders,Tricept,Bicept.

  • With my current situation said, do you suggest changing my workout routine to your 3 days 20min cardio/circuit train WHOLE BODY, 3 days 4o min. cardio only, rest 7th day? And not touch the whey protein i bought? Would this show faster fat burn results/tone/rip/ then what i have been doing for the past 6 months? As i said i wanted to get my arms/shoulders bigger..and i've seen the protein video, so essentially are you saying bottom line, i can only get them bigger by eating more with whey shake?

  • So i use to do cardio for an hour 6 days a week and did only upper body circuit train after. Eating 3-4 smaller meals. I i went from 175 to 152 now. I still want to continue losing the fat but also want to gain a lil bigger upper body/arms. I've noticed my arms and shoulders are more "rip" or defined but not as big as i want. And chest still has fat over it, to my understand this takes a LONG time to tone up. I've been working out since May this year. This is the point I'm at.

  • Hi Scott, my goal is to lose body fat and bulk up arms/shoulders a lil/ get lean tone/cut body. I'm male, about 5'7-5'8 153 pounds. Around 20% body fat. So essentially, should i focus on losing body fat first, and when I'm leaner, focus on muscle mass, via protein shake. or will circuit training cover all my goals at once and including a protein shake after the workout? should i do longer cardio only on the resting days in between or is this not necessary. Do i need to take shake before workout

  • Thanks for this video Scott. A few years ago (3?) I lost around 70 pounds. I was doing a cardio/circuit training type of program. I put on some weight again (thanks college, 4 years of bad food, woo) and recently joined the gym.

I've been just doing cardio for the last week... something made me scared of the weights. But your video made me realize that I should be doing them too... damn I hate being sore though!

    Thanks again Scott :)

  • im a chcik lol. I do martial arts and Gymnastics , i also train at home. Im trying to shread a bit of fat off my body eg stomach, thighs, arms and tone up. BUT!!! what the hell do i eat?
