I cannot praise this song and the album everyone is here highly enough.Every track is a masterclass in the art of combining glorious melodies with heartfelt lyrics, all delivered with uncanny harmonic brilliance by Neil and Tim.
I honestly believe that this album is up there with the best work of Crowded House,Split Enz and the various solo albums released by the brothers. Please, please buy it.
guess i have to comment one more time... i'm crying tonight at this song. so many things lost, so many things gained where family is concerened. this is such a beautiful song
i know, i've already commented a few times, but i gotta say that this is one of the best songs to come from the Finn Brothers. not just the video, which speaks volumes, but the song itself which speaks to me even more. a HUGE WOW! i'm so impressed and totally blown away by this one. Neil, Tim... if you're reading... you guys are the bomb, you are my raison d'etre! <3 <3
quick question... are all the kids in the video (chasing bubbles, throwing leaves outta the basket, hoola-hooping, spraying champagne from a bottle, etc.) from old Finn family videos that have been spliced into this one? some of the old shots are obviously old family videos (Neil and Tim in the little car, Neil (i think) being picked up by his dad, Tim (obviously) introducing his little brother to perform in front of other kids). but i cannot tell about the other shots. educate me, please?;-)
god i love this song, and i've just heard it! LOVE Neil's hat trick too. i have to wonder, is that him at the end as a child doing the same trick?? that black hat looks so sexy on him! :-)
a FB friend sent me this link after i made a comment about how much the brothers Finn resemble each other as they've gotten older, and i just have to say... WOW!! i had to pause it when they blended Neil's and Tim's faces together just when their mouths met, and it was amazing how much they look alike. i've never seen pictures of their parents before, but it is incredible how much Neil looked like his father at that point in the video. this is a great video and song, thanks for sharing it!
@Patsyorange Sorry, I just cannot agree. I got you is a good song. Best song Split Enz ever had IMO. But Crowded House and The Finn Brothers have some absolutely brilliant songs, including this. I don't think Paul McCartney would lie!
I'm here again. I've just made a healthy, informed decision that this is my favorite song with the name 'Finn' attached to it. I constantly use it as a reference point when discussing 'how to write a great song'. Vertical & horizontal melody maximum penetration, structure, vocal harmony, lyrics. 'Once again we'll breathe in the view', everytime I'm lucky enough to be somewhere beautiful in the world, I find myself humming this line, and I still haven't been to New Zealand yet. Someday I hope.
This is a difficult technique to pull off in a video, with the reversing the footage and all. You'd have to literally lip-synch it backwards while filming it and then reverse the fottage in editing.
They write and sing so beautifully together. Everyone is Here is joyous, as is this video. It would be fantastic to know there's another album coming from the brothers before too long.
I love this video! The first time I heard the song, I was on a 300+ mile road trip to see the Brothers in concert, listening to an advance copy of this album. When this song came on, I pounded the steering wheel and must have hit repeat 20 times!
This is a brilliantly crafted song. Every detail. When they take it up a key at the end, it knocks my socks off. It doesn't get much better than this.
Thank God. I thought the world was void of song writers. "f" American Idol and the like. We need the Finn Brothers and more like them. God Bless the song craftmen.
This is a romping good song & video from a marvelously talented album by the bros. from Te Awamutu, NZ. I would bet that was them in the old footage. It'd be nice to know for sure.
Modder, thanks! I found it: "A Good Tune Is Always In Short Supply"- Part I. There's more in Part II.(Many thanks to AndreasSimon) On the downside, I just discovered my NZer idol was smoking. And w/ a voice like that! GD pity.
Don't remember the date when they were on 60 Minutes Aus. I think it was around the time of the second album. The segment used to be available on youtube.

You're right - I am right. These guys haven't written a decent song since 'I Got You'.

@Patsyorange You must be right and everybody else must be wrong! Poor comment. Great song. Great writers, singers, performers. :-)

Some of the progressions on this tune groove so hard! 2:10-2:18 is just solid!!!

Such a catchy song and the video is great. Still can't figure out how it's done and I've been working in video for 30 years.
I know each part is reversed on the second half and there must be some keying.
Anyone have any ideas?
