Hammond B3's with a Leslie are to organ what a Marshall and a Les Paul are to guitar. Not every organ song is written with a B3 in mind, and no two players will make their instruments and amp sound just alike. It is very easy to see why the B3 has become a mainstay of jazz organist, but there are other organs out there with plenty of clout. Heck, even that Lowrey Heritage DSO-1that has been set to the curb time and time again was a a favorite...check this out!
Start of slow. In some cases your hands will be going totaly oposite directions. I can do it pretty well, but not as good as Tony or any of the others greas, like Joey D or JS. It really is fun when you have a breakthrough, then you keep working at it and more and more licks will come.
Tony, please slow it down for a second. I just want to count how many fingers you have on each hand. I'm assuming 8, maybe 9. This is some of the coolest jazz I've heard. Thank you for sharing it.
I'm the "Cheap suitcase Hammond guy" in the video-(and I'm not a sales guy-I'll forgive the insult) what I was worried about was the NAMM volume police coming to shut us down for being too loud and having too many people in the aisles-they were threatening to cut our power-and then there wouldn't be any more sublime moments like this
If you pick up his 'Intimately Live at the 501' CD, READ the liner notes! In there you'll find a heart felt story of this great player and what he has been through!
Its enough to make you appreciate what you've got, and not be so critical.
Tony Monaco, a great Hammond artist, NOT afraid to pull out all 9 !!
loooooool his pinky finger!!! didn't notice it at first, i thought i was the only one with this kinda "tic" though not as pronounced. I feel strange no mo
This is great!! But what's the deal with his pinky finger? Did anybnody notice how his pinky just kind of sticks up like he's drinking tea or something? Maybe that's why he's so super fast.
I've never seen someone rip like that on an organ (besides Ray Manzerak). This very has nothing wrong with it except: What's up with that weird suit walking around the whole time? Not to mention those guys that sound like porn directors.
Hey, take it easy...he's at another tired a** tradeshow. I agree he's reiterating Jimmy (a la "The Champ") and tyrin' to sell that new b3 contraption of solid state... but the man is good. Jus' this man is awesome! yes there are kids out there that are bad in a few things but the total organ-I don't know. I know a guy name Craig Tyson that can run his foot bass heal & toe in the key of C fast and smooth!
Tony will be playing in Edinburgh, Scotland next weekend 24 & 25 September 06' at the Jazz Bar Chambers Street. Can't wait!...he is going to teach my B3 how to be a B3!!!!
