Hermod went back to Asgard with Hel's demands, so Frigga(Baldr's mother) went out to get everything in all worlds to cry for her son. Every being but one cried for Baldr, an old woman named Thokk that turns out to be Loki in disguise. Baldr was forced to stay in Helheim for eternity.

The idea is that if you're a christian, you'll go to heaven right after you die. People who didn't become christian go to purgatory (in dutch Vagevuur), which means cleansing fire. When you've done a lot of bad things you'll go deeper into the purgatory, a longer cleansing fire. After purgatory you're clean and you can go in to heaven if you want.

So all people can go to heaven, only for some people it will take longer.

So basically the English term Hell came from old English helle which is not the same Hel as in Norse Mythology. Plus in Spanish Infierno is the Christian hell and other languages have their own words. If the Church took the term Hell from Hel, then Hell or at least forms of it would have become the common term for all
