is it just me or is someone fooling around with 'snippets'?!?! What's the use of uploading a song at all, if it don't last for 40 seconds... where's the sense in this...?
If it can't be said in 41 seconds it's not worth saying. I especially like the way they build up to an unresolved climax but then leave us wanting more.
@HeadlandRoad I didn't mean to use the adjective in any derogatory way. I mean it positively. Where I live, nobody knows who the Triffids are, especially anyone born after 1987.
The Triffids were so talented it is ridiculous how obscure they remain to this day. Songs like this send shivers down my spine every time I listen to them, and I only really got into the Triffids after they broke up. At least they had time to produce a few great albums before they got fed up with the lack of appreciation and stopped.
I grew up in Brisbane and never heard of The Triffids, finally discovered them, they are up there with other great unsung Aus bands like Church, Go Betweens, Radio Birdman and others //
great memories hey Sciffo - what a fun/funky clip - godbless David McC & The Triffids. Thanks nzoz - where do you live have to shout u a beer one day!!!
The Triffids and Friends Play the Songs of David McComb - a gig coming to the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, Melbourne, 29 January 09. Its a tribute to the fine talents of David McComb from Rob and the rest of the band (Jill Birt, Martyn P Casey, Graham Lee, Alsy MacDonald). It'll include some of the original band slides and bits of Dave's poetry. Wish I had friends like Steve Kilbey, Rob Snarski, Mick Harvey, Toby Martin, Ricki Maymi, Mark C Halstead and Melanie Oxley! Ticketmaster for tix.
Takes me right back to hearing them for the first time on John Peel. Brilliant music, evocative vocals. The greatest. Thanks for posting this. I'd love to be able to look at Field of Glass.
I reckon this song changed my life ... back when I did my HSC! As the years get on, D McComb reminds me somewhat of Brian Wilson, esp in mindset ... & yet the intro to this tune reminds me of BBs.
This song is beautiful - & you posted it on my birthday! Thanks Ryan - Jimbo
That was (IMO) one of the best Australian Indie singles of all time (Hot Records, Cat. No. "HOT 707") by a truly great (& very) Australian band, The Triffids. This song defines the term "bittersweet" for me & is joyous, rightous experience for me every time I hear it. To nzoz1984, thanks for posting this & all the other great stuff as well.
Oh no, what happened ... repost please!!!!!!!!

Listening to this again - almost 30yrs after seeing one of their early gigs on the 1st floor at the Trade Union Club - it is now prophetic.
D McC's life was a beautiful waste, and he left us, over and out, with many beautiful moments.
Pity he's not around to keep us uplifted....

This has to be one of the greatest songs ever written, and it never even ended up on a triffids album!
I reckon the Arcade Fire would do a ripping cover of this

Not only did they make beautiful songs but I love these clips of theirs with images of everyday life.
