  • great post Heidi. Love the song and the clip too :)

FWIW Lord of the Hornets and The Greenfly and the Rose are bonus tracks on on one CD edition of Freq :)

  • Bzzz zz zzzz brzzz brrzz z :)

  • Bob Calvert looks spookily like Aleister Crowley on the album cover photo...

  • I had to sell my copy of the 7" many moons ago - very much a home-made cover as I remember it. Mott, I think both this and "Greenfly" are on the vinyl version of Hype - I really must dig it out.

  • @Molesworth2K Yes: dig out the vinyl!

  • NUTS ! nice work enjoyed it very much thanks

  • @TokeBoat nuts indeed!

  • Why am I the only one I know that likes this music?

  • @tichuminos13 because you, my friend, have impeccable taste. Your friends need educating ;-)

  • @tichuminos13 - I have that problem too! None of my friends have even heard of this song. Great vid, very creative!

  • @otefsu Then show them this video! Spread the word... Robert Calvert was a master wordsmith: one of a kind.

  • superb.

  • I think Lemmy is on this?

  • @MottTheWot No idea chap. There are a couple of different versions of this song around - this one was from Hype (i.e. not the single). All my vinyl is currently packed away in the loft so I can't look on the back cover to see who's playing on this one. Perhaps someone out there can tell us...

  • @HeidiLandRover Yep, he is on it. Just checked it out on the Lemmy bio.

  • @MottTheWot I've finally got round to digging out my vinyl and having a look at the covers. Lemmy played on the single version of this, which is the more electronic sounding cut that was later included on the Freq CD re-issue. This version is taken from Hype, musicians are listed as George Csapo, Michael Moorcock, Nik Turner, Simon House, Pete Pavli, Pete Dowling, Judge Trev, Nick Michaels, Jaqui and (of course) The Captain.

  • @HeidiLandRover Thanks for that, i got my copy of Urban Guerilla signed by Lemmy years ago, he said to me " i liked Calvert, he was mad you know, but he gave me work"

  • @MottTheWot Yeah: that sounds like Lemmy! I saw him a few times when he played with the Hawks on occasion in the eighties and nineties. He didn't look too happy when he was on stage during the Hawkestra thing - perhaps he thought Nik Turner was hogging the limelight? He and Dave Brock still had that telepathy going on though, it's really weird.

  • @HeidiLandRover I've been lucky enough to meet just about everyone who i ever wanted too, meeting Lemmy albeit for just 5 minutes is a great memory, elephant carlsbergs opened on his belt "get yerself a beer boy" then he wouldn't stop talking about the Hawkwind days telling all who would listen that The Space Ritual tour was the greatest rock tour ever! He should never have been given the ass by Hawkwind, i think he might still hold some resentment toward Turner? I am seeing Hawkwind March 12th

  • @MottTheWot

This is a re-edit that was created most likley after Bob's death. It is a remix of the original 1980(-82) single, w/b side: greenfly and the rose (which I own along with the Original HYPE album & book, autographed by Bob Himself!) This is a bonus track on CD reissue of HYPE.

  • the vid is brilliant!!!!, well done

  • @spacedust123 Ha ha - thanks! One of my earliest attempts. The idea of the honeycomb made out of nuts and the hornets made out of bolts was Lollo Tank Girl's. Check out her video for The Greenfly and the Rose.

  • Love it, too!

  • Lovely work Lolly !

  • thanks Harry, we had a great laugh making it as all the props fell to bits as we were using them - this is just about my favourite Calvert song.... love lolly

  • Love this!

  • great stuff

  • Excellent video, great work

    Jan

  • Great video Heidi.

Have you seen the video by Gruffpixie for Hawkwinds Robot?

  • Brilliant -well done. The man was a true genius - surely the most underrated rock musician in history.

  • Thanks. You're right: Robert was a real genius - one of a kind. He's sorely missed.

  • I saw him twice - on the Quark tour in '77 and Hawklords in '78. I was devastated when I heard he'd died. Thank you so much for keeping his spirit alive.

  • what he said!!
