I agree with everyone else. Her paintings are much better than the pretend photorealistic ones she was alleged to have painted. Why people are impressed with art that looks like another medium (the viral email that Snopes debunked), I will never understand. It's kitsch.
These are strong images, showing a wonderful use of color that the artist employs to depict the faces of a culture so different from ours. Very inspiring and painterly, this Anna is an artist to collect and whose career to watch.
As art critic for the past 30 years .... and as an incessant "Snoper" ... this wonderful film is a gift to me in this New Year. I had been sent those "photopaintings" by various people over the past year or so. My response to all was simply ..." If they are genuine ... then the artist's technical skills are incredible. But there is no soul or heart in them. She might as well grab a camera and shoot pretty scenes." I stand vindicated. These paintings have soul. They are brilliant!
I have who ever made the hoax up to thank for finding this incredible artist, I also think that individual needs to apologize to both Annas. The paintings are so beautiful and strong. The colors and the people, wow! "Faces of Humanity" , I can't think of a better title for these wonderful works.
@rainbowblades maybe it was not a made up hoax but a true mistake... i hope so! let's give the person the benefit of the doubt. :) at least now the world knows about BOTH amazing Annas, even though it was through a case of mistaken identity! now both will have their amazing work (painting and photos) appreciated by a huge global audience. :)
I, too, discovered this after reading about the Anna Kostenko mixup, on Snopes actually. These are lovely. I've never seen facial expressions captured this well in unconventional depictions of countenances.
I really love the paintings! they touch something in the guts, in the heart, very gifted!!! The photographs are photographs,
that's it.

@Tresyk No they are not.they are simply poster paintings fashionable that's all. You Arty farty types talk a lot of twaddle.

@Tresyk There is nothing pretend about the alleged photographs of the other Anna Kostenko wether photographs or paintings they are superior art work.

Super work. Too bad about the Snopes screw-up but for that I wouldn't have seen these paintings.

Also found this after reading the Snopes account. BEAUTIFUL work. Far more inspiring to me than the "photorealisim" claimed in the fake slideshow.

I guess I don't appreciate modern art, but I found the paintings grotesque, and the photorealism much more pleasant to view.

@articfixer1 how bizarre, that you would choose to use the term "grotesque" to describe them. What about them did you find repulsively ugly?

I found this after reading a story about Anna Kostenko the painter being confused with Anna Kostenko the photographer. Wonderful work.
