Hey Jamal Do you feel anything regarding to Latency? i mean using the Ipad Bacause I do when i use controllers on my pc. even using ASIO4ALL . Do u have any recomendation for me Brother? Thanks man.
I spoke w/ Apogee concerning the input switching inability using an IPad. The idea of redesigning the ONE's knob function came out of our conversation and the tech is going to discuss this w/ Apogee engineers. Please email them in support of this revision so we can fully use the ONE w/ an ipad. Users asking for it may enable the revision.
@GospelMusicians -the knob would switch the ONE's inputs standalone, without having to attach it to a MAC running the Maestro utility.to do this. Hopefully, Apogee will see the wisdom of this very easy hardware change. Please let them know you would like to see it also.
Just wanted to say thankyou for a terrific demo and great playing skills. Great video. Also nice to see a person who doesn't feel the need to use expletives to articulate themselves on YouTube. Excellent musician and human being.
@AwesomeMan2696 You use your MOX8 as a controller to send MIDI to the iPad. I never tried it, but the iPad should be able to send MIDI back out to your MOX8 as well.
This is way cool. I lug a 50 lb Alesis around and just got an iPad2 as a gift. MAN! With a LIGHT midi controller and the iPad (and the connectors) that'd be SO sick.
Thanks for making this! I have the Apogee ONE, and am planning to get the iPad 2. Would I be able to record both vocals from the internal mic as well as keys through midi?

@GospelMusicians there are products (music production) for the iPad 2 that don't require the camera connection kit, like the iRig Mic and the iRig MIDI. Or you can get the Alesis iO Dock, which is AWESOME.

Hello. I'm having trouble to get the organ sounds working when I plug my MIDI keyboard into my iPad. There is no sound when I try using the organs, but all the instruments seem to work just fine. I think it has something to do with the channels. If you could please help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Great vid. So you're saying, to get apogee one to work w iPad 2, you need the USB camera adapter and a power source? Could you recommend a power source? You said kinsington or something? Thanks!
Yo Jamal, got the Ipad2 and with camera kit tried it out in a live setting and IT WORKS! I was nervous about using it but it worked well. Now I’m no way near ya’lls standard of playing or knowledge of DAWs but in my humble opinion it was pretty impressive. Created a couple of drums loops as tracks and flicked between them while using the piano and organ. The sound equality was like the first time I ever heard a Rhodes in high quality stereo. Awesome. Anyone else used their iPad live?
Hello! Thanks for a informative film. I have a question: How did you do to make the external mic to work. I can only use the internal mic in Apogee one.
To enable the external mic connection on the Apogee ONE you need to connect ONE to a Mac and set the input source to the external mic using Apogee Maestro, the software that comes with ONE, then connect the ONE to the iPad and you should be good to go. Remember if you are using a mic that requires phantom power to turn that on as well while in Maestro.
Oh my, sweet. My old trusty Yamaha DGX500 of 7years got stolen the other week from the back of our van, I'm looking to buy another keyboard again, but having seen this I'm thinking hmm, 88key controller + ipad and I've got all I need. Seems workable no? I'm gonna have to do this!!!
@MotifXF8 Motif can read the MIDI file if it's a SMF (Standard MIDI File). You can load it and it should load the corresponding General MIDI files. Import the file into your USB stick and import it into your song.
Get the Apogee Jam audio interface made specifically for the iPad2. You get a quarter inch input. The Jam goes straight into the iPad 2's 32-pin connector. You don't have to worry about power and all the other stuff. Doesn't have midi but it is a great way to bring live sounds into the iPad. Check it out.
@GospelMusicians - The Alesis dock is really nice but ONLY works with the iPad 1. Because it is a sliding connection and the dock connections differ from the iPad1 and 2, you will not be able to use your 2.
@bibble4shizzle I take that back. On Sweetwaters' website, they are taking pre-orders and claim it works with either 1 or 2. Not sure how they accomplish that so I am contacting Alesis directly. Next big problem is they keep pushing the release date.
Yes all you have to do is go to utility and set your motif's midi to USB and it works great. Also there are other apps that support midi as well like korg ms20 app ( nice fat custom synth) and for backing tracks I use " multitrack daw" to play back full 24 track audio sessions on stage.
This video is awesome...Can you please do a video that demonstrates how to connect everything?, also if I am just playing the sounds from the iPad 2 with a midi controller do I still need the apogee one?
You should try the Alesis IODOCK...it looks a little more promising. Alot more options. It has its own power & its a little less bulky. Midi in, 2 Audio Ins, Audio Outs, Video Out... This is everything you need for your Worship Service.
@onkytonkman Audio output from the Apogee One. Using MIDI through the Keyboard controller. The Apogee One and the MIDI controller are connected through a powered USB hub.
One of my favorite things about the Motif is the ability to easily layer sounds, plus it has tonnes of factory loaded pads and I believe its also expandable. It seems like you still need both. The Macbook and Ipad plus a good Motif workstation.
I recently just connected my Yamaha MO8 to my Macbook Pro via USB and sampled the sounds from garage band. It did have some clean crisp sounds. I guess it would be more cost effective to buy an Ipad or a Macbook and a midi controller then just buying a Motif or another top of the line synth. Plus you could start recording your playing and also play backing tracks. That being said though the I dont see the professional musician fully stepping away from the synth just yet.
Your best bet is using Nano studio because it is backwards compatible, there is a free version for the the pc/mac and of course the one for your iphone/ipad it has some great instruments and works with core MIDI (USB),. Also look out for the Alesis Studio dock which has built-in XLR AND TRS PORTS phantom power direct guitar port video out, a complete workstation, which is a great alternative to the Apogee.
@teacee Nano Studio looks nice and I have my eyes on the Alesis Studio Dock. The question now is: Does the Alesis Studio Dock support the new thin iPad 2? Will it fit? I didn't know it had video out too. That's awesome. I'm waiting for Apple to release an SDK for AU instruments for iPad, then it's a wrap!
@GospelMusicians Yes, according to alesis dot com/iodock ipad and ipad 2 will fit. I agree that when when Apple implements the AU ability via the ipad, will be an awesome feature.

@GospelMusicians Hey gotta question for you, i don't know if you use logic, but i purchased your neo soul package, and i went to guitar center and bought a sustain pedal, but when i use the pedal the notes don't sustain correctly, and if they do, the only time it will do it is after it loops once, If possible can you please tell me how to fix this issue thank you.
