love this tune , I m from Pakistan but when ever i like to hear the music of human helplessness I love to hear this tune and dukh ki sada by Usatd nusrat fateh ali khan. I dont know why ARR named it as Bombay theme because its so pure that it could be named as a universal name of sound of misery.

Rehman composed a tune of sadness which can not be associated with only Bombmay but whole of mankind where ever it is.

Bombay was the Tamil movie by Mani Ratnam for which this masterpiece was composed by ARR. Bombay like Roja (both by Mani Ratnam) is considered as a national reconciliation movie on the wake of violence between Hindus and Muslims.

I disagree that the music is of sadness and helplessness. In my opinion the music is of Contemplation of the forthcoming peace and hope. ARR is a genius composer in Gods name.He was part of this national consciousness which wanted reconciliation.

It is not about the race for "us" tamils, as you say. For long , bollywood has made short work of people from the south, and discounted them telling "Saala Madrasis". Madrasi the term, still to most northies means anyone from south India. Thats pretty saddening.ARR sir started off in Kollywood, he only got to the Oscars because of his hardwork.Absolutely nothing else. No favoritism or superstardom. As simple as a "Saala Madrasi" is to the stereotyped north Indian who unfortunately, still exists.

In general, I think we should agree musicians from the South do much better music than ones from the North. Of late it is beginning to show. Back in the late 80's and early nineties bollywood sort of ruled- now the balance has shifted. Remember if it were not for a Roja dubbed in Hindi, the whole of India would never know who ARR was. Praise Mani for that. We Indians should be proud to have such a composer born in our land. He churns out magic, the man.

How can we risk the lives of thousands of people living around and 3 full districts if the dam erupts. Kumuzhi is the place next to dam, and the geological fact is that Kumuzhi is way higher than warned level. Water will not go high enough to destroy those villages in a case of flooding.
