The republicans in this case are the lesser of two evils. Democrats tend to restrict guns, raise taxes, and redistribute wealth to people who literally do nothing but sit around and have children. Entire generations of people have packs of children at the expense of the taxpayer who in turn grow up and have more children. The founding fathers gave the people the right to bear arms at a time when individual people needed to protect themselves from marauding Indian tribes or wild bears in their backyards. What about the Patriot Act and the 4th Amendment? What about the Military Commissions Act and the 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments? I think that the failure to protect rights is important. Although speech, gun, and property rights are eroded, other rights are far more important. The government is failing to provide for the right to a good education, failing to provide for a basic living wage for hourly workers, failing to provide basic health care to the poor, and failing to respect privacy rights in homes.

The republicans in this case are the lesser of two evils. Democrats tend to restrict guns, raise taxes, and redistribute wealth to people who literally do nothing but sit around and have children. Entire generations of people have packs of children at the expense of the taxpayer who in turn grow up and have more children. Every free thinker should fear the democrats far more than the republicans.

Yeah, he talks a lot about protecting essential individual liberties, but if you check out his page (under the "Issues" link), you'll see that he's actually talking about the freedoms of white conservative Christian males. He opposes not only gay marriage but civil unions as well, he has passed numerous laws in VA that are completely invasive upon womens' reproductive rights, and favors abstinence-only sex ed. Not real bright, if you asked me.

I think Gilmore is referring to the rights you actually HAVE under the Constitution, not the entitlements liberals might want. I can't find "reproductive rights" in my copy of the Constitution -- must have gotten a defective copy.

The Constitution is not about limiting the rights and freedoms of the American people. It was designed as a system by our founding fathers to limit the power of the government to infringe upon the individual's rights. The Bill of Rights says explicitly that "the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." Thus, the federal government has no jurisdiction over my uterus.

I agree with you on property rights, but on gun control your views are outdated. I believe that 'mrchaco' and 'casirkus' above covered that quite well. Your assertion that americans are responsible with guns is clearly absurd. Nobody where I live (Juneau, Alaska) is trying to take away anybodys 'gun rights', and most people that are killed with guns, in America are killed by their own gun in the home or someone they know who owns a gun. The founding fathers gave the people the right to bear arms at a time when individual people needed to protect themselves from marauding Indian tribes or wild bears in their backyards. They did not mean for citizens to have machine guns to gun down innocent people or automatic weapons to do drive-by shootings when drugs deals went bad. This is an out-dated "right".

Actually, the first militias were composed of individual citizens who owned their own weapons for hunting, personal protection, and for state and national defense when called for. All of the individual signers of the Constitution owned their own guns.

Im planning to go hunting this Thanksgiving with my father for the first time. Im a serviceman of the State and Weapons of Mass Destruction Responder and Instructor for the National Guard. Why is it I have to pay and go through so much to get a rifle permit.

I just watched reverent Billy being arrested in NY while reciting the first amendment in New York. McCain-Feingold is more a problem for politicians and wealthy individuals and organizations. most of us cant buy air time anyway so this doesn't really hurt us. And youtube will continue to make tv adds less relevant anyway.

i tried to keep an open-mind about him by watching the full video like ppl should to every1,but he's not really after giving internet users' their natural given feedom. one tiny thing out of many possibly harmful things he'll do just to convince internet users, when we are using the internet to watch him! and by the way Jim, GUN's KILL, cuz people now adays cant just punch 33 innocent children in Virginia to death. i know its the person "doing the killing", but dontcha think the gun helps?

Coyo - It is not the gun that is doing the killing, it is the crazed individual. Using arguments like school shootings is bringing emotion into the debate on the side of gun control... but remember (for emotional purposes) that the revolutionary war was fought with the weapons the farmers had... Guns protect us from our government, which if things keep going the way they are, we may need soon enough!

What would have helped is a professor or student with a firearm also. When they made Campuses and Schools 'Gun Free Zones' they posted a bulls eye on everyone of them. Seung-Hui Cho was a nut-ball and no, I am sorry to report you cant stop nut-balls from starting it, but a law abiding citizen surely could have stopped it.

I have a gun, I haven't killed anyone. You're basing the actions of others off of the actions you would take in those situtions. Perhaps if you did have a gun you would kill anybody who looks at you the wrong way. Due to that fact you believe others would take the actions. Guns are not bad, your just insane.

Our Founding Fathers made sure we have the right to bear arms so we could protect ourselves from our own government.
So if ever the US became corrupted and started taking our rights away, we could rise up and fight back.

Knowing Jim for over 20 years his integrity, and character is beyond reproach. I would like to see more oversite of our tax money in D.C. millions and billions are talked about as if they were dollar bills someone lost out of their pockets. It is absolutely appalling that no accountability exist in regards to wasted money. Waste in New Orleans over 50, million. The unaccountability of billions in American cash that has just disapeeared in Iraq, DC, and the world.

I think that the failure to protect rights is important. Although speech, gun, and property rights are eroded, other rights are far more important. The government is failing to provide for the right to a good education, failing to provide for a basic living wage for hourly workers, failing to provide basic health care to the poor, and failing to respect privacy rights in homes.

I like you so far. Please go further into detail sometime about how you plan on backing up what you say you're going to do and how you plan on actually doing it. The government knows everything about my property, my work and my finances. They demand the freedom to monitor my communications if they so desire. My property isn't secure. Privacy rights should be a part of our liberty. Big government is a voracious beast. We are all diminished and should be offended.

i think america is a country by the ppl and for the ppl and when the govt wont allow complete sound level headed American to own the same fire power that they possess (ex. 50bmg ban in CA) i dont think a a gang member wants to spend more than 2000 dollars for a single bolt action rifle, when sks are less than 200 dollars, yes take guns from felons, the mentally unsound, and the youths (i think that is what the USA, NRA, and sensable gun owners want)

They only make empty promises from misinformed minds. You seem different. Its one thing to talk about the issues, but its another to do something about it. It's reassuring to hear more than one Republican call for a return to the core Republican value of liberty. The current front-runners and their Soviet-minded platform of fear. We win against terrorism by being free and valuing freedom, not by cringing in fear of desperate losers.

You make some good points...we'll see. I haven't heard your name anywhere else. You need to reach the public through other means like school related events. Students are among the majority of the audience on Youtube, if you get the students, you get families, etc.

I was wondering your thoughts on the lack of freedom of speech that has been forced upon Christian and other religious groups while granting the groups they oppose more rights than others-take for example the arrest of peaceful protesters in Philadelphia during a rally promoting homosexuality.
Also, what do you think of a flat tax rate and the potential it has for increasing tax payment honesty while enhancing the economy (take for example Russia's tax system)

Gov. Gilmore, it seems thatyou and only one other Republican candidate actually cares what the American people want. The other candidate, of course, is Ron Paul. Of all the candidates in any party running now, the rest appear so irrelevant...you and Dr. Paul should think about banding together!!
I have been a diehard Democrat since the beginning, but for this election I am going Republican only for people like you and Dr. Paul!!
