  • nice car....good job....

  • man i remeber watching the buildup of this car on your site. your a genius btw.

love the car but the vid needs no music, just the music of that car hahaha. sucks you dont have it anymore

  • great stuff. well done

  • was this car reliable?

  • @lakersfan221 Sadly, no. I drove the crap out of it, and I got 130 thousand miles out of the chassis, but in that process I blew 4 engines, a turbo, 4 transmissions, ate 2 wheel bearings, 2 power steering pumps and a couple other miscellaneous things.

  • those sti engines are pretty sweet this one guy i know tells me that the wrx engine is stronger than the stis engine and i tell him that he is wrong and then he says no the wrx engine is stronger that guy does not know what he is talking about I do not know who told him this info false info

  • @ThePrudence23 WRX Engines are open deck blocks and thus very weak; they start to become unreliable around 300AWHP. The STI block is semi closed and will handle over 400WHP before it starts to show weaknesses.

  • wow i thought that would be good...

  • hows the car doing now?

  • @jtaylornate No idea; I got rid of it some 5 + years ago.

  • on the snow are you on summer tire ?? (the first scene on snow)

  • @tibu266 No, never. I always drove on Blizzaks in the snow, using the stock RS rims powdercoated in grey.

  • Comment removed

  • subaru rumble for the win!!

  • damn. nothing beats an awd turbo off the start

  • this video just makes me happy

  • looking at all those wiring I would probably end up getting piss off and rip the hell out of it....then when I'm calm down i'll cry that I screw it up.

  • what transmission are you using? how to did work with the differential and all that good stuff?

  • @Vertigo311922 Stock RS tranny and driveline with a Spec 3 clutch. It broke 4 times.

  • ive got a subaru complete racing spec engine and a full custom paint job it rocks man, i spent far too much money on it but it was worth it it definatly turns some heads

  • Awesome job dude might be what i wanna do someday!

  • i cant believe you took sam barros's car and claimed it as your own likw some sort of plagiarism. and by the way it is an EJ25 RA.

  • @awdlv2xlr8 You moron, PowerLabs is my (Sam Barros) Personal webpage. And there is no such thing as an EJ25RA. All JDM Impreza engines are EJ207s, and the last engine on that car was not an RA, it was a V8 STI.

  • what kind of swap?? looks jdm? very nice video btw ;)

  • @jtaylornate EJ207.... Yeah, it is JDM. It is the engine off an STI V8 from Japan with a bigger turbo.

  • Great Music Great Car....I LOVE IT!!!!!Are You from Chicago? If so call me at 224-210-0550 I love to talk to you!!!!Mark.

  • how much did the engine swap cost? and kind of impreza did you have? rs?

  • what was the display in the center that showed your rpms and speed?

  • was a nice car till u beat the balls off of it

  • I want to do this myself> Any idea how much you have into this car?

  • very nice gauge all that wiring he did much more that u think

  • All that wiring. i hate all the engine computers and stuff.

  • I've got a 99 RS. Can't wait to do an engine swap. Of course, I can't do it myself. Wonder how much the shops will do it for (labor and engine and parts).

  • A lot.

  • Hehe! Could you guesstimate?

  • Labor+parts+engine+ecu blah blah blah between $8k-$13k. For a USED swap. Still going to be a bat out of hell!

  • Fine car, class video. Well done.

  • i remember reading the whole story behind this car. So many rebuilds and problems in the beginning.

  • Awesome video, how much did you pick up the trans and engine for??

  • Nice!!

  • GREAT VID!!!!!

You are soo lucky you have all those car activities local enough to drive to.

    AND SNOW LOOKS SOOO FUNNNNNNNNNN

  • More sliding action needed! Gravel or some tire smoke!! But dope ride. Music is so weak.

  • cool car shiity music

  • how much did this cost you? roughly

  • time for a g35r and a new clutch

  • can some one tell me what is needed to complete this swap as far as motor tranny ecu transmission etc. ?

  • engine, wireing harness, ecu, transmission, turbo cross member, fuel pump, axles, rear differential (matchs transimisson) and some other stuff but thats about it

  • - What was your final HP/TQ running what PSI?

I am about to swap my WRX motor into my 99GC, and I'm wondering what your results were with the STi motor. A mod list would be Awesome too!

    -Dash

  • Truly impressive

  • I was looking into this a few months ago, how much does the sti engine cost? I feel like it would be a pricey purchase.

  • 4-5k

  • hmmm what MPG you geting now?:)

  • Not alot but I dont cear Im having the time of my life :)

  • indeed:)

  • I did the same with my car :) GC8 FOR EVER!!!

  • nice car man

  • so what, any honda can drift in the snow too. you just look stupid doing it

  • i wana see tht ....without E brake... fwd drifting....hmmm interesting

  • its not drifting obviously, they just slide sideways by ripping their e-brake. i figured you dumbasses would know that

  • lmao....im not the one saying "so what, any honda can drift in the snow too" ......so explain n support ur text u dumb shit n quit thinking n figuring crap...

  • hey sam, im finally about to get a 00' rs coupe for 3500 nothing wrong guys just wants it to go to some one who will take car or it, has 150k on odo. and soon, will do a wrx swap 2.0L sti is too damn expensive ahha

  • Getting a new car a 91 subaru legacy l used supposibly it has a knocking problem so i may have to rebuild the engine hopefully not. Well not yet anyways. it has the 2.2LH/NA

  • How many hours/days/months did that take? Cause that is really inspirational makes me want to get one and do the same thing.

  • About 6 full days for the basic swap.

  • May i say, ive huge respect for some1 to go through all that, doubt it was that heartbreaking when you love what you do. Have a 00 turbo myself. How much did everything set you back for full conversion?.. something id love to do.. well done again.

  • whats the name of that song

  • @Powerlabs that car is fucking sexy, 0.0 good work man, how much money in total for that project ? im jealous the ultimate ride

  • thats one sick ass ride

  • the rs tranny holds up with this? i didn't see in the vid that he swapped to a sti tranny

  • I beleive if u change the clutch for more of a heavy duty one and not many hard launches it will hold up

  • I have a 93 impreza L FWD, can I do a AWD swap with a sti engine? pls help...

  • your best bet would swap a rs tranny or a 2.2 tranny thats awd it depends how much funds you wanna do :D

  • yes you can, its going to cost a nice amount, because you gotta swap the drive train. everything lsd etc etc, to get allwheel drive and etc

  • i have a 1997 impreza brighton how much did you pay total for your swap im going to do the same thing on mine thanks

  • Seems a bit pointles to me, why not just buy an sti???

  • this guy is an engineer. engineers like to take shit apart and put shit back together to see how it works. the end result is more rewarding than just throwing down $35K on a stock car at the dealership. btw, he also owns an 05 sti, this car literally obliterated it. lol

  • maybe he wants to do the swap himself? maybe he has 3-6'gs to spend on an engine not buying a whole new car/used car

  • For some people engine swaps are more fun then buying cars, i know id rather put toghether my own engine if i was goin to race it then just buy a car and put some upgrades on it.

  • hey man... very very nice job on the swap? did you do it yourself? if you.. came out very nice and professional.. and i see you only mess with the best..perrin,ecutech,,etc,, very nice car man..props... i work for Eastcoastswappers out of springfieldma.. were always swappin post 90's subi's with wrx and sti motors.. once again... very nice.. maby ill see you at a meet.. we'll have to line up the sleeper impreza's

  • hey sam (owner of this car),

Im shocked this is it, i found your thing on powerlabs. and was watching and reading all of it but never clicked till i saw this video on one of your other parts on powerlabs. i love this vid and all the work youve done on this best. i would love to have mine get to were yours is in the furture!

    Snakebite420

  • anybody know how much it would cost to replace a camshaft on a 97-99 2.5rs?

  • you're a very lucky guy! how much have you put in this ride?

  • Sweet!! Can't believe it took me this long to happen across this vid. Keep it up!

  • i didnt think the song was too bad, whats the name of it, badass subie by the way

  • Sweet car, gay song!!

  • AWESOME!!

  • waz up. luv wat u done 2 ur car! im thinkin about gettin a 2003-5 rs but it might b automatic. can i change it 2 manual if i get the 2.5 litre sti tranny? N were did u get ur sti engine from and tranny also the ecu. thanks

  • And thats cool how it just owned that mustang on the srtip

  • Thats cool! Car conversions are hot but they take up alot time! My brother in law is workin on two of them but it takes up alot of time cuase he has two kids

  • NICE WORK!!

  • bro, that's a real sleeper, plus save some money on car insurance

  • Still one the best car vids on youtube

  • Thank you! I miss this car a lot...

  • you would so love it where im from. We all have rex's. Ive got a STi RA wit c/r g box, and 240kw atw, full custom internals, the thing is bulletproof. If youre ever able to, come to auckland new zealand and we'll take care o the rest. Nice work brother.

  • fuckin sick. that's all i gotta say. wonder how he managed to use the sti intake manifold considering it's drive by wire... still a badass vid and a sick car.

  • Its the JDM manifold which has a cable actuated TB. All I did was port and polish it and then powdercoat it in red ;)

  • which is heavier this or the 06' sti?

  • You're kidding, right? This car is lighter than a 2006 STI by 558pounds! The newer Subarus are nice (I had a 2005 STI), but they are pigs when it comes to curb weight. I had this down to 2780lbs with full interior, floormats and 1/4 tank of gas (no spare tire though).

  • i think i just went in my pants

  • Have you visited his page, you moron!

They call this guy "Plasma Boy".

  • me too...;D

  • Great car! Great guy!

  • TRADE U MY 2000 SCOOBY FOR URS! lol :) iwould so do that to my scoob but i dont have like a bajillion dollars to do all that lol. NICE SCOOBSTER!

  • Was it worth it?

  • I've wanted to do this. Did you put in the STI teansmission as well? Driveshafts? axles?

  • Stock 2.5RS transmission and drivetrain with a lightweight flywheel and a semi metallic clutch compound. I swapped in a limited slip differential on the rear, but everything else came with the car.

  • Who does this song?!?!

  • Man, anyone selling a used 2001 Black Subaru Impreza? I've been dreaming of getting one of these for ages...

  • There's a blue 98 impreza, 2 door, with a version 4 STi swap on ebay right now. Up in 2 days, reserve met, one bid, at 5000.

  • dude.. that came out reall f*cking goood...

  • anyone here who has worked on a modern to semi-modern engine know and hates engine spaghetti.

  • Stoned In Love - Chicane Feat. Tom Jones

    there ya go mate ;)

  • very nice car man! Whats the song?

  • where did you get those control arms, are they they same for all years

  • Nice. Can you just get a complete wiring harness from the car whos engine your swapping and not have that catastrophe? Im sure somebody sells a kit. Swapping a motor is definately the fastest way to make hp, FTW.

  • If you search "East Coast Swappers" they can merge a turbo wiring harness with your N/A Subaru's harness. I think they charge $900. If you can do all the mechanical stuff yourself, this would be the easiest way to go! Sweet car BTW! I would want some RA gears for that much power though.... :)

  • damn brah dhas hella sick ... how much hp you runnin'

  • he has a 2006 Z51 package Corvette now, prior to that a 2003 Z06 and before that a 2005 STi, after this 1999

  • i'd rather go top mount than front. its got its benefits. but thats what i wanna do if i get a 2.5rs.

  • aha, but if your read powerlabs he'll explain why thats a better option in some cases. Less piping means less pressure has to be built up in the system apparently (I think).

  • dude, i got a same car as yours. where did the swap? i wanna do the same thing, any suggestion?

  • id do it, if it wasnt for the wiring, i am confident that i would screw something up.

  • haha me too i would def do my own shit bt id cross wires and shit and that nt too good when that happens

  • damn son

  • hey do u know if the seats on a 07 impreza, will fit a 95 impreza.... the 95 body type is gc6

  • hmm doesnt those exhaust wraps kill the piping?

  • Thats sweet man, i have a 84 GL Wagon that i want to put a STI engine in, what a shocker that would be to people right?

  • i have a miata that i put a mustang engine in and turboed the crap outta it and i line up to ppl and its funny bc they think there gunna burn me ...u should see the look on there faces when they get blown away by a miata

  • mean azz subaru subaru 4 life

  • Probably put 6K on that swap and another 6 on the car itself. Maybe more. I never kept track. It was worth it though!

  • looks like you had alot of fun with the little car..

    looks nice.

how much did the swap cost?

  • damn! that was a major upgrade, just curiosity how much money did you spent?

  • Nice movie. Good to watch more than once. Thats a bad little subie. It seems to be running with EJ20 not sure, ecutec, IHI VF Turbo? Upgrade the turbo increase the CFM's a bit upgrade the fuel. The infamous glass tranny will hold below 4K @ launch. Put it like this, If I just robbed a bank and was anticipating an hour long + chase of hardcore point and squirt turns and had a choice of a get away car- Id pick the AWD turbo rally car. Its a great animal. Thanks for the movie.

  • The turbo is upgraded ;) It was running a VF22...

  • Yeah, no comparison at all between the two cars. 1- Massive car with almost no space! 2- POWER! 300 foot pounds of torque at 1000rpm, and it will light up those massive rear tires in 2nd gear going 40mph! 3- It is NOT more nimble than the STI. It definitely grips better; it weights less, has a wider wheel base and sits lower to the ground, on MUCH wider tires.

  • rear wheel? an AWD is a totally different story, good luck with spinning that at 40 mph! hard enough to do from a standstill. and it is obviuos that an AWD will handle better than a rear or front wheel drive car, moves all the tires at the same time, allowing the car to grip better.

  • ISIScool your still lost. Rear wheel drive has and will always handle better than AWD. AWD makes non-pro drivers better than they are thats ALL. A tire can only have 100% traction to turn OR accelerate. That means RWD = better because the drive wheels and steering wheels are SEPERATE

  • Not only that, AWD does not move "all the tires at the same time". 4x4 moves all the tires at the same time. AWD varies the thrust. If all the tires moved at the same time, it would be very hard to turn (as in true locking hub 4x4) because the inside and outside front wheel try to move at the same rate. (the outside wheel must travel faster than the inside wheel). I *KNOW* check out my videos. I have a 4x4 and a AWD

  • yea yea i get you alright but then again thats why they are better for gripping the road, it makes up its own mind whether or not to put power to what ever wheel needs it or not, so it sorts out grip for you, you can be more aggressive that way. hence faster round corners. this is what i think anyway from watching various programs and stuff, top gear was showing the evo and that was able to go round corners faster as it delivers power where needed and takes it away where it is not.

  • No you are still lost. Did you not read what I posted.

***YOU*** are not TSUCHIYA. A *TOP* driver does not need or WANT his car to decide where to put the power. You are talking about a car trying to make up for lack of ability.

RWD rules for track use, always has, always will.

100% traction is available to any tire at a given time. Go sit in a dark closet and contemplate that till you get it.

    MORE AGRESSIVE = SLOWER

  • fair enough but at this stage i think its fairly obviuos that the majority of us are not professional drivers?? so why does it matter about them, should be the majority we are talking about no?

  • Great point Isiscool. I do agree.

For Senna and Tsuchiya RWD is great, but for people like you and me, non-professional drivers, AWD makes us better than we are and helps give us a larger margin of safety.

That to drive an AWD at 9/10ths driving limit is much easier than an RWD at 9/10ths

  • ya thats fair enough i get you alright. yea thats what i was thinking, they give us more room for error, like golf clubs, lol strange example but some give more forgiveness than others and this can be compared to cars, the AWD bein the one that gives most forgiveness.

  • Isiscool, golf clubs are actually a REALLY good example. I had never thought of it that way. Here is my final idea:

RWD golf clubs give unreal performance, but have a extreemly small sweet spot.

AWD golf clubs give the not so good golfer, 80-90% what the RWD golf club give, but have really big sweet spots. (Oh just wack it)

  • I will also take this moment to adress Top Gear. Not everything you see on Top Gear is bery true to life accurate. In fact, not that much actually. If you belong to the Top Gear crowd that actually believes that a stock EvoMR and keep up with a Lambo you are as nuts as the guy that asked the stig to drive the lambo not balls out.

  • The track times were not kept from the race between stick and clarkson in the lambo vs. evomr duel. Why? Because stig was not driving the lead car, the lambo, at 10/10ths. Why? DRAMATIC STORYLINE. And for idiots like you and me, they would be similar speed. Skill limits us, not the cars.

  • even tho i am a scooby fan that evo on top gear was a 400 bhp model wud easly keep up with a lambo

  • Scoobystuff you need to **THINK** about what you are saying.

Two cars with similar power to weight ratios except that a evo is more like a NASCAR in that it has NARROW tires and a HIGH center of gravity...

The Lambo is LOW and tires are TWICE as wide. That is like a formula car (minus the downforce).

The *ONLY* reason the evo was even close is how short that track is.

  • Put them on Streets of Willow short course and sure the evo would keep up.

Move to Laguna Seca or a speedway and the Evo would be LOST.

  • Keep in mind I am a huge fan of 4door AWD cars. I have had a WRX and a STI and currently drive an LGT. Check out the videos.

I do agree its amazing it can keep up on a short track, but it does not come close to being an equal track day car.

    SCCA maybe.

  • but i am sure that was a tuned evo, not stock and i know what you mean by the stig not driving iot but it would stil give it a run for its money you know, whether it beats it or not is to be decided. still though if you think about it tune any decent car to its max its going to give the lambo a good run so this is a bit of a strange one lol.

  • "tuned" evo? To the best of my knowledge an actual "outside" tuner is not used to create either the 320 or 400 hp MR models. Factory tuned maybe.

Evo's teeny 4cyl is making 400hp over less than 1000rpm of the powerband. Its basically a drag car if you can imagine what the lag is like. Floor it at 3000rpm, wait 5 minutes.

The lambo? Can just about liquidate the tires at any time. Floor it at 3000rpm, kiss you ass and the asphault under you goodbye.

  • I will say that the evo 320 is stupposed to have almost zero lag and is an incredible all around steet machine. I've no personal experience with one.

  • ISISCOOL your dad doesn't have a 22B get over it or post a video of it, otherwise, you are definately full of it.

  • It sold. I bought a 2005 STI instead. It was much slower. Sold it, bought a Corvette Z06 now.

  • plz make a movie of your corvette:) i wanna see and are u gonna tune it?

  • WOW A Z06. No comparison huh? How do you feel about the difference between the Z06 and the STI. I am a big fan of sedans, and AWD, but I imagine that the Z06 is more nimble and much quicker. Let me know!

  • Erm... Because a WRX would weight 400lbs more and make about 100less HP? Good job with the HONDA... I'm sure it would "hammer" my car ;)

  • Powerlabs, a 22B is not a Honda. It is a limited model STI. I **SERIOUSLY** doubt this stupid kids dad has one. 400 were made, EJ22 2.2 liter, bore: 96.9mm, stroke: 75.0mm, c.r.: 8.0:1, 206kW at 6000rpm, torque: 360Nm at 3200rpm or around 340hp. They are VERY fast and VERY balanced but not as fast as that RS. IS IT STILL FOR SALE??? 15 grand is a reasonable price.

  • well considering it does 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds, got a turbo timer, not a wrx btw, above stock model, over 100 hp more......try again

  • haha, fast car and all but i hate to say it that my dads 2 liter turbo 22b would hammer it, theres a full exhaust kit in it, adds bout 10 hp and thats it i think although about 5,500rpm theres another kick, fair duce to you for changing the engine and all but why not just buy a wrx?

  • Isiscool if you knew what you were talking about you would not ask that question. Your dads 22b, while a hot car, would not even touch this car. Seriously. NOT EVEN CLOSE. We are talking a difference of OVER 2 seconds in a 1/4 mile between your DADS car and this wild RS - which is a 2 door mind you.

  • ISISCOOL is actually IAN the LIAR

    (1) 400 22B were made and not where he is

    (2) he says its a 2 liter when its a 2.2 liter hence the 22b name, be would know that if his dad had one

    (3) only kids with little dicks front their daddys cars in text and dont post a video claiming its theirs that means

    (5) his dad doesnt have one, he cant make a video and is probably lieing about his age so he can see all videos on youtube.

  • fair enough i admit im wrong about the 22b model part, sorry about that, done a bit of looking up on them, know what they are now, but no need to get so worked up about it :S

  • and btw why would i say im younger than eighteen which would mean i couldnt watch some of the videos for no apparent reason... whats the point on that, calm it pls

  • your dad's car is a 2.2 not 2 litre

  • soooooooo how much power did it make?

  • this video made my day

  • Cool car. Shame about the music. IMO the engine sound track would have been enough

  • car is bad ass

  • KPM, eww

  • Pay attention; that is MILES AN HOUR.

I've never seen a car that had a speedo that only went up to 120km/h (70mph). Have you???
