It would be difficult for TX to secede without convincing the Latino population that it would benefit them as well. Just as there's no way SC, NC, LA, or GA can secede without bringing Black people on board.
The only States that could possibly pull this off would be ID, MT, UT, WY, AK, the Dakotas, and possibly NE, KS, and OK.

It would be difficult for TX to secede without convincing the Latino population that it would benefit them as well. Just as there's no way SC, NC, LA, or GA can secede without bringing Black people on board.
The only States that could possibly pull this off would be ID, MT, UT, WY, AK, the Dakotas, and possibly NE, KS, and OK.
One question though... why was there no talk of secession when Bush grew the federal gov't WAY beyond its constitutional scope?

I fully understand where you're coming from hfd07, but I was just emphasizing what needs to be done to keep the Texas Republic whole, should it decide to secede. I'm not from TX, but Texans have always had my respect-- they're never afraid to be honest with you and stand up for their principles and the Constitution.
Gov Perry is right though; TX would be far more efficient by itself. The Feds would lose a lot more (energy, food, land, people, etc) than TX would lose, if it became independent.

all the secession talk is a sham. a political ploy to feebly attempt popularity with the libretarian base of the tea party movement. while gv. perry tried to refuse the extedended unemployment insurance offered by the stimulus package, texas is in line for federal funds for other purposes like disaster relief for the drought, the Trans Texas Corridor, etc.

You spend on average 105-120 days working out of the year just to pay the Income Tax. State, County, and City taxes are NOTHING compared to it.
Oddly, it used to be we paid 1% of our yearly earnings for the Income Tax. Put the Industrial War Complex and Welfare into Washington and that's what you get.

najz3r0 you need to check your facts, despite Mr. Lincoln's assertion every State in the Union has the right to secede from the Union at anytime it chooses... in fact many of the States refused to ratify the Constitution unless they had the option to leave the Union... you need to go back and read The Federalist's Papers and the records of the ratifying conventions for both the States and the Great Convention (The Constitutional Convention)
