dude, my dad was finding german artillery shells on bare ground with no shovel in the 1960s when he was a kid. Finding german weapons in USSR was about as common as seeing squirrels in North America.

The Drakon IT-1 would have been great as a tank-killer if put onto a heavy btrd or bmp1 frame. The pzkpfw III is a scrap that the soviets used for propaganda. Yes the russians did build a rocket-propelled tank.

The drakon IT-1 was a good design in my peronal opinion, but not as a tank, instead as a tank destroyer. A battalion of them would have worked well to reinforce static defenses on a large set-piece battle, plugging holes in at gun defenses.

The video is about on soviet project - rocket tank. It was created because by Khrushev order (he loved rockets very much). It was produced in a very small amount because of its obvious flaws. But it helped alot in creating of a specific tank weapons.

In video were shown a moment where the tank shoots german tank that is over 3 km far from.

Conclusion: It is very old weapon, but still looks fantastic :)

Once the T-64, T-80 came out, this vehicle wasn't needed. The BRDM w/Sagger pwned the TOW/Humvee. It carried 6 ready to fire missles.

It looks like they would be testing the weapon on a tank like the american M48, M60 patton tanks that were of the time armor was so much more advanced by then, americas light tanks such as the M551 Sheridan and M41 Walker Bulldog light tanks had better armor and firepower than a early WW2 Panzer III with a 50mm gun and its main armor was in the front and rear, my assumption they couldnt find a american tank and went with what they had...

@MultipleEFP Those russian tanks are heavy heavy beasts... thats why in cold war america adopted the anti tank sabot round. They resorted to a small dart to transfer all energy into one tiny spot and send molten shrapnel and depleted uranium throughout the enemy russian tank. and they werent even sure if it would have worked! but it wouldve. and they made mince meat out of iraqui tanks in both gulf wars. which used russian cold war models. basically the same russian tanks but less target systm.

The baddest RPG-7 warhead (PG-7VR) has penetration of 600-750mm RHA.

The shitty RPG-7s you mentioned used warheads from 1961 to 1972 with penetration from 260 to 400mm RHA.

Iraqi Army had RPGs, which were taken out of service in Soviet Army in 1973.

@bullstriker1992 Depends on RPG's warhead. Early versions had penetration of 300-500mm and were not tandem. If tandem-warheads with 750-800mm penetration would be used in Iraq, we would see many burning Abrams as well.

So, the first thing, which must be asked when someone talks about a tank which withstood multiple RPG rounds is "What warhead that RPG's had?". Because with FRAGmentation warheads, any tank can withstand 1000 RPGS.

There is a Discovery lie about Abrams destroying 3 tanks in 9 seconds.

There is a BBC News lie about Challenger getting hit 70 times. (published 2003)

And there is this lie about T-90S being in combat in Dagestan. (published 2003)

Author of the article mistaken T-72M1 with T-90S. T-72M1 were indeed for India, but several vehicles remained in Russia and later were directed in service unit in Russian Army. That unit participated in combat operations in Dagestan in '99. T-90 of any version hadn't see real combat, only tests on proving ground.

IT-1 was a partial success, they managed to get 2 regiments of these tanks into service for a while, the 9M7 "Dragon" missile had quite a punch to it! I know of one 1 surviving example at Kubinka tank museum outside of Moscow. Nice to see how the missile is prepped and guided.

The target was an old Panzer III from WWII.
