  • Such a great tribute to an absolutly brilliant actor. I was struck by your choice of musical accompaniment for this which I think perfectly matches Dwight's subtleties and (more so) exuberance that he brought to each of his roles as an actor. Well done and thank you for your work here.

  • Dwight was only 44 years old when he died in 1943. too young. a great character actor, his Renfield unforgotten. thx for this tribute!

  • Dwight Frye's performance as Renfield in Dracula is unquestionably one of the greatest in film history. Frye gave the film one of it's most genuinely disturbing scenes, when he arrived in London as the only living person onboard the death ship Vestres. His truly insane laughter provided many audiences of 1931 with their first glimpse into the great potential of talking films. Indelible and unforgettable, his performance scared me as a child of 10, like nothing I've ever seen since.

  • The unsung greatest actor of the Universal horror films!

  • Whoa, I stumbled upon this this. I never heard of this guy. What a friggin brilliant actor! I'm going to look for some of his films now.

  • That's a great, moving tribute. I would love to know what all the clips were from.

    Thank you.

  • what the hell is the music -SOMEBODY? PLEASE?

  • @ozymandias047 Bolero from the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. There are TWO soundtracks to this film- Volume one and Volume two. It's on Volume two.

  • The score to this is absolutely awesome. Well done.

  • Wonderful tribute! I could watch Dwight forever, Awesome job SRsunny1986!!

  • FANTASTIC tribute! :) great little tricks with the timing and choice of clips. just brilliant! thank you! :) you had me mesmerized from start to finish. :) what a wonderful tribute to dwight.:) I'm sure you made him smile, up in heaven. kudos! :)

  • I think Dwight Frye's utterly superb performance in Dracula somehow caused Hollywood to pigeonhole him in the evil assistant role. He took Renfield to a surreal level of perfection. It was possibly the best acting ever performed by an individual. That performance was a double edged sword. He could have been a Valentino and Gable rolled into one and more so!

  • i agree. it's sad that it was his own talent that led to his pigeonholing. dwight could be so good-looking, i.e. as vint glade, i thought he was the lead. he was so valentino-esque. it's truly a pity.

  • Still the best Dwight Frye tribute on "You Tube". Period.

  • There's a bit of a Johnny Depp quality to Dwight, especially around the mouth. And he does psychotic/weird very well, like Johnny, also. I think he's got that special something that would've made him a cult superstar if he was around today. Brilliant character actor and much missed.

  • yes, i would liken him to johnny depp, too. :) depp's also so very versatile and talented, and so very attractive--but has no qualms about looking bizarre or ugly, if the role requires it. like dwight, he is a true artist, not just another undeserving, hyped up star. :) it's good that we're all still around to appreciate dwight now. :)

  • Very well done! Keep making awesome videos.

  • Awesome video! Thanks!

  • there was immense more to dwight frye than horror flicks. A classic broadway dramatist and actor, his films include the Maltese Falcon and several musicals!

  • Beautiful, enchanting, and breathtaking. A truly amazing video and perfect music.

  • Still amazing indeed. Soul stirring.

  • this really is sutch an amazing video. I think it was the first or the second I ever watched on youtube. After watching this I always think 'oh my god! He looks incredeble.'

The music fits so well with the video parts. It's really great that this shows most of al his action scens. He was very good in action scens. Always so mutch emotion and adrenalin. How does he do that? Being so handsome, so cute, so cool,... How does he makes us all so crazy about him?

  • Asking how Dwight makes all of us so crazy- wow! There doesn't seem to be an adequate answer to that does there:) He is so emotional in his roles, so handsome, we could go on and on, but there seems to be no describing it. He just IS:)

  • that's true;)

  • Still amazes me Sunny, even one year on. Hope you do another video again :D

  • I was thinking the exact same thing. I just shared this with some friends who wanted to know who Dwight was.

  • Greetings from Finland! I discovered Frye's talents about a year ago, and he's been my favorite actor ever since. This tribute made me fall in love with him.

  • This certainly is the best dwight frye tribute ever made on youtube. Sow full of action, passion, crimes, getaways,... It takes my breath away!

  • What's the movie he's in with Cagney, around 00:45? Any idea?

  • "Doorway to hell".

  • He was versatile, talented and beautiful. Thanks for collecting so many wonderful clips in one place.

  • wonderfull tribute. Dwight Frye was a verry great and handsom actor. Thanks for making this beautifull trubute of him.

  • This is so amazing! This is an absolutely amazing tribute to an absolutely amazing actor (and, from the biography I'm reading, a pretty great guy too!). And yes, he really is perfectly lovely, isn't he? Even when he's eating flies!

  • Alright! Another new Dwight fan entering the fold. Soon....soon, we shall RULE THE WORLD! *Oops, that was supposed to be a private thought* LOL!

  • What's the name of the biography?

  • "Dwight Frye's Last Laugh" I think :)

  • Next time you watch Dracula, look at Frye during his "Rats" speech. He doesn't blink for over a minute.

  • This is such a great video. And Dwight looks... rawr!!! Wonderful job putting this video together!

  • Yet another comment on what a fine looking man Dwight was! Good to know that so many out there have noticed it;)

  • How could anyone not notice? ;D

  • EXACTLY! *Grin*;)

  • Yes. Hard NOT to notice.

  • Lol! Oh so true. It's so hard not to notice the gorgeousness of that man! :D

  • I noticed it too. He was so charming.

  • He certainly was:)

  • Wow, Dwight Frye is amazing, and so is your tribute. The music is just perfect! I think Frye's Renfield was my first crush on a movie character. I used watch the movie and recite all his lines with him. (of course Bela was great too, but Dwight Frye almost stole the show). Dwight Frye just electrifies right through the screen.

  • Still the greatest Dwight tribute at You Tube!

  • I haven't watched this for a while, but I've revisited out of sheer indulgence.

Really nicely put together. Love the way the action builds with the music. Bailey's lovin it - a simple round of applause is all that's needed.

  • He's the very very very great actor.

  • Well done! This was so lovely, very well put together and edited beautifully! Thank you so much for sharing, I really love Dwight. :D

I particulary enjoyed the scene at 2:35! He's so dashing! ♥

  • So much can be said about Dwight, but I don't have the words. Thank you for putting what I would say in pictures.

  • Dwight is DELICIOUS;) Thank you so very much for this.

The clip that is shown at the mid-point of the video, where he is lying down, with one eye open....makes your knees weak!

A truly talented and gifted man in so many ways, not only a wonderful actor, but a skilled piano player and a painter.

  • Oh man, yes! That's my fave clip too! Totally agree with you! What's it from?

    Once again, a lovely job.

  • Glad to see that I am not alone:)

The clip passes by pretty fast, so I may be wrong, but I think that it is from The maltese falcon (?) Feel free to correct if I am wrong:)

  • Oh I just realized that we may not be discussing the exact same clip, as Dwight is lying down twice in this vid. The clip I am referring to is at 3:32.

If you're interested in falcon be sure to get the 1931 version, that is the one with Dwight. The 1941 is with Bogart, and then there is also one with Bette Davis I think? You want 31.

  • Yes! 3:32! That's the one! Thanks for the info. I'm totally loving all of these cos up until now all I'd seen him in was Dracula and Frankenstien!

  • Glad that I could help:)

I started out only knowing Dwight through those two films as well, but recently I have been checking him out in many other films and he is always brilliant!

  • Renfield! im so happy you put in renfield. it just won't be the same. the name of the song is Bolero. it plays at the end of 2001 moulin rouge.

  • Just discovered Frye and was so happy that you made this vid. Thank you so much! The emotion in his eyes alone is just amazing.

  • Boo yah! Great and greater. What was the music? Gotta get it...

  • Excellent Video! I've always loved Dwight Frye, thanks for the tribute!

  • Great tribute to a great actor! Thank you!

  • He sure knows how to wear a Fedora!

  • Amen to that. A large part of the reason I now wear a fedora, lol. :)

  • Outstanding!

He'll always be 'Fritz' from Frankenstein for me,

I recognized his Universal Horror film classics

of course but all these others films are new to me,

I've got to start hunting the video stores

    and the IMDB.

  • Great compilation. What is that music!!!???

  • Frye was an amazing actor, and that incrible voice! So sad he died so young and never made it big, and beyond the boogeyman image. He was a better actor than Bogart, for instance.

  • Magnificent.

  • Thank's everyone for your lovely comments!

  • You're welcome :)

  • I...I...I feel I may have to sit somewhere awhile before I can post coherantly. Oh my LAWD, that was incredible! Great tribute!! (And the music is amazing!)

  • That was incredible! Great clips, and great music with it. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • That was fricken amazing!

  • WOW...I really liked this! I'm embarrassed to say I'm quite jealous, where did you get all the clips. I though a couple of these films were missing. AND at the risk of sounding like a complete girl, Dwight looks really gorgeous in most of this video. Thanks for posting!!!

  • **lol!** I was thinking the same thing about being a complete girl! Haha. Talk about some sexy scenes!

  • OH yeah! Particularly the ones (Man to Man???) where he's got the slicked hair and the devilish look in his eye...yow!

  • I like this video because it makes DF look like he was a film "star" which as we know he never got the chance to be :( I also like the scenes from "By Whose Hand?" I think that's the only screen kiss I've seen from Dwight, I know the characters his mother but I still can't think of any others.

  • Awesome! This video has many clips I haven't seen. Love the song, too!
