  • We have DC, the FED and Wall Street in cahoots robbing the taxpayers of billions of dollars each year and pouring them into off shore banks. They end up in Sheik's bank accounts or they are used to fund more phony Wars in the middle of nowhere against countries that are of no threat. The Globalists are nefariously gutting this country. The Socialists have their hooks in. True unabridged Freedom has been destroyed. In maybe 50 years they're going to start talking about a World Government.

By your logic Jefferson and Washington were traitors to the British Crown.

  • @Sybok51288 It is a said observation that America has become over the years many of the things that its founders despised. Interventionist, imperialistic, jingoistic, centralised, disregarding of the will of the people, disdainful of self-determination, blindly loyal to the state and willing to sacrifice liberty for security. Jefferson once said that the greatest form of patriotism is dissent, yet today such people of ridiculed and marginalised in American society, it is a sad thing to see.

  • Our founding fathers created a government with limited powers, after the Union won the Civil War, they became, "Big Government". Even to this day they are "Big Government". This is why more and more protests and occupy that city and occupy that city. In reality, North and South lost in the long run.

We have over 900 military bases in close to 150 countries. We have over 20 million illegal immigrants, a currency that has been purposely defiled, an enormous debt, an environment thrashed by massive industry.

    When Nullification died, this country chose a path of self destruction.

  • Look up "Dancing Around History," by Blain Roberts and Ethan Kytle, both UNC-Chapel Hill grads and professors at California State University, Fresno (I had history classes with both). The "Lost Cause" argument won't fly with either one of them, nor will it with me, even though my great-great grandfather was a Confederate soldier from Manes, Mo.

  • @Ihateidiotsify Yeah, its a shame that it is tought to kids in school that the North only fought to free slaves which was never the reason they fought the war. Lincoln wanted to preserve the Union and he over taxed many Southerners and many went bankrupt. Ever since the North won the false lesson that Lincoln freed slaves and they fought to free slaves has been tought to many Americans when infact many Southerners died fighting for their freedom from a tyranny and for their homes.

The United States Government just covered up the war and covered up the war crimes the Union soldiers did in the South. To me, if we are all "America" then the real truth needs to come out.   • There is no doubt in my mind that had Jefferson and Washington been alive in 1861 that they would have supported the confederacy, Lincoln butchered the founding principles or your nation and America has never been the same since, the fact that he is held up as a hero is one of the greatest travesties in history.

  • it ironic did you know that in the 1840's certain Virginia legislators from the western parts of the state tried to get a law passed outlawing slavery,unfortunately the slave holder in politics the same men 20 years later who would push the cause of disunion got it shot down. had that happened Virginia would have most likely decided to stayed in the United States, where it belonged

The grandsons of both sides fought and died, shoulder to shoulder in the The Battle of Belleau Wood, 1918 under the Stars and Stripes. As well as all across Europe in WW II and are comrades to this day !

Even with all these advantages it still took the Union about five years to defeat the Confederacy. Not to mention that the Union had to blockade the South and wear down their troops before they could win a battle. "Your filthy slavers" You are aware the North had slaves too right?

    What do you mean by "The North" though? The Border States that were kept in the Union? New England, the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic and California did not have slavery within their borders by the 1860 election.

  • @illerac84 I would bring to your attention that the states of Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri were kept in the union by forced and were never allowed to vote on secession. both Maryland and Missouri were largely in favor of secession after Lincoln's call for 75,000 volunteers and Kentucky was more evenly split on the issue and attempted to remain neutral the Lincoln administration however did not respect this neutrality.

  • @bluegrassreb1 His goal was to preserve the Union. He only freed the slaves in the confederate states to weaken the south further. Freeing the slaves was never really a goal of his. Slavery was not the only reason for the Civil War. Just the most popular.

  • @Coolmans24 although tension over slavery did contribute is was hardly the most prevalent reason, most of the tension between north and south was over tariffs and the federal governments spending on infrastructure in the north at the expense of southern states. southerners were greatly hurt by high tariffs. High tariffs made goods more expensive and meant less revenue from exports and the south exported 3/4ths of what it produced.

  • @monkeyfire087 that is a misconception, Tarriffs played a role in the nullifacation crisis not the civil war. In the south tarriffs were lower than any point since 1819.

  • @markmason1000 no it is not a misconception the passage of the Morril tariff raised the average tariff rate to 48% with some goods with duties as high as 100%. at the time of the war tariffs and duties collected from southern ports made up 80% of federal revenue most of which was being spent in the north. the south had plenty of reason to be resentful over tariffs. Lincoln's election was the last straw, he was reviled because of his protectionist platform.

  • @monkeyfire087 thats an excuse the seccession ball used to justify secession, considering that southern states didnt even mention the tarrif, and considering the only reason it passed was that the that states that would have opposed it had already left the union, it doesnt have much revelvance to the argument of secession

  • Double standard . The South is the scapegoat for the country . People , not me , say slavery was bad but never mention George Washington and his 20 slaves etc. etc. etc. They want all the good of it but when someone points an ignorant finger it is always at the South .

  • George Mason set the foundation for Stopping the Slave trade. He Was a Virgina man . Who was once friends with George Washington. Who refuse to sign the Constition because the would not put Bill Rights in it.

  • Many staunch Union supporters don't want to hear the truth. They want government approved history. They want the entire Confederacy to be categorized as Slave owners. 5% of all Southerners owned Slaves before the War. Now if this was a Hollywood movie, every Southern soldier would have a connection with Slavery. Gods honest truth: 1% of Southern Soldiers owned Slaves. The rich never fight, they sit in the back while young, innocent boys die.

  • Also remember, free blacks served in the Southern army, alongside whites. In the North they were segregated, got paid less than white soldiers and were originally only recruited to do menial work. And Lincoln made the move after he was running out of white soldiers, since many wanted to go home as their papers started to run out.

  • Slavery was AN issue but not the only one. remember JEFFERSON DAVIS' Inaugural address never mentioned slavery, it did mention taxes tarrifs, etc. Lincoln in his 1st inaugal said that he was bringing the states back into the union by force to collect the taxes and revenues/duties, not 2 abolish slavery. Lincoln even supported a measure that would keep slavery legal in the cotton states forever if they agreed to rejoin. Simply put: the war was about taxes, tariffs, slavery, northern industry,etc

  • This video shows how a majority of southerners felt about the war.. It was held that secession was a viable option since it was the states that gave birth to the federal government.. not the other way around. And when Lincoln asked for volunteers to wage war on the states (UNCONSTITUTIONAL, the 1 thing the president cannot do is levy war against the states) the upper south would not send troops to tyrannize others. Thats what led the common man 2 fight, not slavery. But to defend his home

    Cite the article in the constitution that restricts what the president may do as commander-in-chief of the armed forces vis a vis the states. The constitution is a legal document, not some kind of holy relic that can be invoked whenever there is some moral or amoral cause.

  • @Langenbrug article 3 section 3. treason=levying war vs states: the president may put down a rebellion... but not levy war against the states.. if the state legislatures vote for something legally that you as a president dont like.. U may not levy war against that state.. this isnt the whiskey rebellion, this is states (the sovereigns that created the federal govt) deciding to leave (as was done by 11 states from the articles to the constitution) remember that was by definition secession as well

  • People today do not look at the cause of the war or people in general back then in historical context.. you cannot correctly look at the war or people of that time with 21st century standards. truth is northern and southern whites were the exact same in their regards to blacks. There were between 6-10 causes of the war.. to simply say its one issue (either slavery or taxes) is ignorant.

  • @TheConservative13 Lincoln said that the war effort was simply not working when done in the name of preserving the union.. so he had to manipulate the public into thinking it was about something else.. slavery. people today do not look at the 1860s in historical context.. nor do they admit that a northern white and a southern white were the exact same in their opinion of whites being superior to blacks. people try to oversimplify the war, truth is there might be as many as 10 causes for the war

  • @23mbtx23 As you are right , but i am trying to reach those who are unfamiliar with the reason for the intital war. I would completely agree that there are numerous reasons as to why the war started. The front line soilders were mostly there to defend and protect their native home and soil from an invader. I was wrong in trying to summarize it with few words, but i cannot sum it all up on this little page.. God bless. TREVOR.

  • It is impossible to love America and not respect Thomas Jackson. He served the United States in the Mexican War and defended his state against his own government. Regardless of your opinion of secession, Lincoln did not even try to avoid war.

  • I'm from California, but not ignorant as to believe that the North were the noble, valiant liberators of the "poor slaves", and that the South were evil and a a bunch of slack-jawed, Neanderthals. The North had many flaws. Even Lincoln himself was a racist. There are too many people who's intelligence depends and what's on TV. It's very disturbing.

  • @ZM7241994 You are correct, he did not believe blacks were equal, but we must all keep in mind that was the time, and to believe blacks were equal was extremely radical at the time, more radical than it is to believe that they are unequal today.

You admitted that Lincoln was a racist, but you tried to justify his racism by saying that it was commonplace. Now, if it's okay for Northners to be racist because it was commonplace then why isn't the South excused from racism? You hold a double-standard. The Yankees didn't care about slavery, nor did they care about giving blacks equal rights.

  • @vermontsoxfan9 I am NOT a Confederate sympathizer, please understand, but do you know how many southerners owned slaves? Now many. Do you know how many northerners gave a shit about the plight of black people? Probably fewer. Which means basically, according to textbooks, we have an war between two largely apathetic armies. I have never bought that. I have no doubt the southern politicians craved the endurance of slavery, but it was meaningless to the large majority of the men fighting the war.

  • @mranonam your 10000% correct. you couldnt get 95% of people to volunteer and risk their lives so that the richest 5% of the population could own/do anything. and the battle cry of the FEDERAL armies when fighting the confederates was def. not "come on boys lets free the slaves and help blacks to equal equality". The UGLY TRUTH is MOST northerners AND southerners thought they were better than blacks, times were alot different. The south seceded over $ and the north wouldnt allow their $makr 2 go

The textbooks have attempted to make our ancestors look like a bunch of racist bigots who hated blacks and wanted to enslave them all. They make our ancestors look like they all had slaves and were all horrible to them. (even most slave owners treated their slaves much better than given credit)

Now, what evidence do I have that he was a racist? He said in his own words that he was a racist. In a debate with Stephen Douglas in 1858 Lincoln said "I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races..." cont.

Because the South cried ''pitiful me'' when they were ''denied their freedom'', when at the same time they denied an entire race their freedom. Certainly the soldiers of the Union were descriminatory at first, but they fought alongside the blacks and they earned each pther's respect.

    Well in Ken Burns' "Civil War" they were sent in....and that's the definitive work on the war. And yes at first, but they had a respect, and for some even a love for blacks that the South could never fathom.

  • @CanadianGuerrilla I would dispute that, although racism was prevalent in both north and south they were very different types of racism. in the south it was a very paternalist version of the white mans burden, where as in the north it was a very vicious and hateful racism. the manumission laws in the north are evidence of this. the south at the time was an integrated society where as the north was segregated. the south had more free blacks who had more rights.
