The stock one is usually mounted on the inside of the turbo.

@motorwolrdpl internal but you can seperate that side of the turbo with usually a plate or modified flange and have a seperate pipe next to the down pipe that dumps boost, we in NZ call it a Dump Pipe, still has a rukus sound some even louder than externals depending on the setup, it is a cheaper/quicker option for a chit load of noise and better flow

TheLaneyzf - because what you're listening to in this video is the wastegate, not a BOV.

a real rally car doesnt utilize a bov.. what you hear is actualy compressor stall. no BOV in the world makes that noise.

I didn't hear any BOV at all, I don't hear any compressor surge or BOV. It appears we're listening for 2 different sounds, since you won't hear a BOV or compressor surge except at throttle lift. What's displayed in this video is an EWG, which has a distinctive "no exhaust" sound since the wastegate (which is NOT the same thing as a BOV...) dumps to atmosphere.

i was trying to reply to laneyzf, also i wasnt talking about this video.. he is trying to find out why this car dont sound like the wrc98 22b for example that would chirp in shifts. while in a real WRC, they still use internal wastegates hence why i went strait to the BOV. alot of readers and dreamers only know of the basics of a FI system and when they hear that chirp sound they automaticly believe its either the BOV or a wastegate.

@sullengirl99 yes you are exactly right but to TheLaneyzf - you can always block off the wastegate vacuum hose and run unlimited boost to replicate that sound, I've always found it a nice and easy way to fuc every engine component, pistons just love it on the stock fuel setup :)

Nope. 02 was the first USDM WRX and 04 was the first USDM STI. You could try to get all the parts from one and make a replica sort of.

hm, someone who knows what they are talking about look up audi s2 group b and listen to the off throttle noise and tell me what that is. sounds diff to that.

group b and current wrc uses an Anti-Lag system, which cuts the spark to one cylinder so unburnt fuel makes its way to the turbo. once the fuel touches the hot exhaust pipe it ignites, and that combustion spins the turbo. This keeps the turbo spooling between shifts and it results in a popping sound.
