The fact about guitar playing when making comparisons on who is faster with killer chops is not what really counts as the best but rather who writes killer songs. Sure these guys have better technique then Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix but they don't create music the way these guys did.

I honestly dont think Shawn Lane stole the show here! Ok, he is fast, but so what? In this particular case, he wasn't much faster than any of the others, and the sound wasnt exactly great enough for us to truly judge the solos of all on stage anyway!

At the end of the day, these Guitar God jams are all a big wank to them, and we lap it up anyway! I think Paul had the best approach honestly - it is just so true to being himself that he would make a joke out of it! Remember the drills?!

funny thing is Paul isn't playing anything, he said in another video that everyone was standing there with right handed guitars so he put his on left handed style to look cool, but when it was his turn to play he realized he couldn't play left handed so he just turned up his distortion and screamed into the pickup, Shawn was awesome

Gilbert is the ultimate shredder. Holocaust speed, unbelievable control, fierce attack (of course in this vid, he's just yelling into his pikcups)

Beach is a monster professional with miles of musicality and savvy

And the rest are all badasses, as well, obviously. At this level, it isn't better or worse, just ... awesome.

Each player brings his own strengths to the table. But shred? Paul destroys everyone.

I'd like to explore more of Shawn's music, totally. As I say, he was a beast.

I think Paul does outshred Lane. His attack and pick-every-note technique is otherworldly. But at the speeds of a Gilbert or Lane, what difference does it make, really? Just saying.

There is MUCH more to great guitar playing than just sheer speed.

@TheTrueFortress You're the one talking about how Gilbert can shred Shawn, and I'm saying he can't. I know that shredding isn't everything, and that's why I prefer Shawn. Shredding is really all Paul does, whereas Shawn is much more tasteful, IMO.

Moral of the story: Paul doesn't shred Shawn. Just because Shawn chooses not to play staccato constantly like Paul, doesn't mean he can't.
