I've been playing 5 years but have never attempted slap, I don't know why but after seeing this i really need to learn, sure i love using my fingers and a pick but that just looked fun. no fucking idea where to start though xD
@teracite Ridiculous...The REAL slap is Graham. The inventor of slap and pop. The rest of us are imitators. Even Wooten. He's great, but he isn't the original.
@Dmanlamius76 yes i know , but wooten its master of slap , i do a school of jazz , i play everytime everywhere and i know if its good slap or bad slap and you are not bad don't worry but its not my prefere slap . you love this slap , i hate so after principal its you love :) bye ! ^^
this really helps me a lot. i thought everything as a drummer because my brother drums. which is also why i don't want to drum.... but this just really helped me a lot with jams... any tips??
haha i tyhink im getting a little ahead of myself with these vids. cuz you were just fuckin jammin then you looked at the camera and said "simple stuff" and i just laughed
hey guys i just wanted to let you guys know about this awsome bass lessons i took. when i started i couldnt really play anything then i took these and now i can play anything, let me know if your interested and ill give you the link.. there unreal lessons
i think this helped with my slapping and popping alot... I used to get confused with all the mutes.. now that i consider them as drums it just happens automaticly and i can focus more on frets and notes.. the mutes arent even on my mind they just happen ^^ thanks alot
how do you get that sound when ur makin the drum sound, cause my bass just doesnt get that sound whether muted, slappin or whatever, is it my bass or settin or ?...anyone
Come on mate! Give credit to whom its due! Larry Graham had this idea to imitate a drummer when at the time he didn't have one. To use it as an exercise for timing maybe somewhat ur idea. Cheers!
Did u get this idea from Larry Graham? He actually was the one who pioneered the demonstration u have posted here. What u have shown, is I believe, how Larry Graham invented the slap and pop.
Hey man! No, not at all! It's just something I did years ago when I watched t.v and stuff. When friends were on the playstation, I would just play along to the beats of the little songs on the games and stuff. :) It's just a great technique to brush up on timing...
Dude this is awesome! Is there any chance you could do video lessons at all? If I record a video of me playing and you can see where I am at skill wise then you record a video for me maybe? I can pay via payal! Cheers dude!
Yeah, I remember how it was when I started out playing the guitar and how everything seemed so complicated and just WOW. Now only the really big guy manage to impress me. Ah well, back to bassics...Can't believe I said that.
well, i must be really sad bevause i have watched this video so many times, i love you tutorials, and since i have stopped taking keyboard lessons, i am trying to persade me fater to pay for some of the 'non-free' ones on your web site !!
i truly am one of your bigest (and saddest) fans !!
i think this is potraying me badly so i will just leave it as, you are insparational for aspiering bassests, keep up the good work !!
hey i have a question, i'm a beginner bass player. I was wondering why my A string sounds way louder than the E string. I play a song where i use notes from the E and the A string and the A string sounds way louder. I tried to mess around with my EQ but i couldn't get the E string to sound the same as my A string. Do you know why??
Hmm, that sounds a bit odd. Look at your strings from the bridge down. Are all your strings aligned evenly over your pick-ups? They should all be on exactly the same level...
Hey i wonderd if you could help i play bass in a heavy metal band i play in drop b and just use a pick but i was wondering if you know any other techniques that could make m sound more aggressive or heavy thanks
Playing chords gives a heavy kinda sound. Also, get your self some distortion or over drive. Mix that with a dropped string, learn a few chords and you have a very heavy sound! Good luck with it..:)
lol, mabye it's just becuse i'v only had my bass for 2 weeks or so but that doesen't seem particularly simple, thank you for uploading all these vids though, they will deffinitly help me out:)
I like the way you did that. Now, my drummer won't bitch about me about timing thanks this really helpful video. Thanks a lot. btw, you got any other videos?
Hey mate, do you have any other stuff? More like intermediate stuff? I've been playing bass for like 5 years now. So, speed's not really an issue. Also, I've viewed a few of the other videos. Your skill is remarkable. Oh, "Beautiful Butterfly" I believe it's called is fricken ridiculous
I dont understand your negative comment about my "bad timing" on this vid (which i've now deleted.) I dont have a drummer on these vids, and am just playing by ear for people to learn. i hope i dont get that syndrone thing :( i play piano, and im lucky i didnt get it. i never did exercises i just jumped straight into complex blues, but now i do it really relaxed and it does not strain my hand or fingers. i want to play bass, so do u think i will find it a bit easier to toughen my fingers, or am i just puuting myself at more risk?
sounds great, im fairly new to bass just trying to get the whole slap and pop mute to sound good. i have now tried imagining the drums and it really does help with the rythem and timing for me, thanks for the tip, hopefully one day i will be slapping like you.
