  • Thanks, I'm really getting the hang of it!

  • does r bridge have to be lowered?? xDDD i think it does, cuz it's hard to slap and pop when ur bridge is high :/

  • @CursorAboveMyHead Do you have a big gap between your fretboard and strings?

  • @Dmanlamius76 well.. yeah, kind of.

  • Thanks D! I've been playing a few years now, but your lessons always offer me a simpler explanation, or show me different ways. Cheers

  • @martindavd No problem! Here's another version of the above video, explained a bit better: /watch?v=VAjecDiTZ0g&feature=relmfu

  • although this a practical lesson don't forget to practice the theory

  • playing bass for 2 years now. can play the but timing... thanks hey this is good stuff i think you're on to something. don't forget to name it.

  • I picked up my bass, clicked the video and put it down slowly just to watch. That was very neat. :)

  • 1:13 - 1:17 i think there's some of bieber's underware on your ear. great performance but less attitude, dude.

  • @laskarharimurti Less attitude? I was just trying to explain stuff.

  • I've been playing 5 years but have never attempted slap, I don't know why but after seeing this i really need to learn, sure i love using my fingers and a pick but that just looked fun. no fucking idea where to start though xD

  • @TheFourSidesOfficial go through my videos, and look for BAss lesson-Slap and pop part 1 Hoorah!

  • yes simple . learn the real slap ( wooten )

  • @teracite Ridiculous...The REAL slap is Graham. The inventor of slap and pop. The rest of us are imitators. Even Wooten. He's great, but he isn't the original.

  • @Dmanlamius76 yes i know , but wooten its master of slap , i do a school of jazz , i play everytime everywhere and i know if its good slap or bad slap and you are not bad don't worry but its not my prefere slap . you love this slap , i hate so after principal its you love :) bye ! ^^

  • @teracite Oh, I see :) Np :)

  • @teracite Personally I feel Wooten's over rated :/

  • oriyt mate i was wondering how you would go about practising this

  • Hey man love all of your vids they have really hepled me alot!

  • that was incredible

  • damn.. thats some amazing bass playing

  • I hope I can get this good one day :0

  • Very sweet!! I always play the bass and thinking up excercises while watching movies. This one is a perfect addition! Thanks man!

  • this really helps me a lot. i thought everything as a drummer because my brother drums. which is also why i don't want to drum.... but this just really helped me a lot with jams... any tips??

  • Flea uses the same thing in hes playing :P Useful stuff

  • YOUR A FUCKING MONSTER!!! (good thing)

  • simple no good rhythm yes

  • its becomes simple once you spend years figuring out how to do it! lol

  • Thanks for all the help man. Helped me get out of that rut you get in after youve been playing for a really longtime. Thanks again!

  • that is some funky bass my friend. well done!

  • nice one! :D

i like to do the same sometimes, but set a metronome slow, get a rythm then speed it up and see how fast i can keep it constant.

  • *plays redicoulusly awesome slap bass* u no simple stuff

  • haha i tyhink im getting a little ahead of myself with these vids. cuz you were just fuckin jammin then you looked at the camera and said "simple stuff" and i just laughed

  • I fink you've masta'in va rhyvm

  • simple stuff you say ?? not

  • hehe..

  • dude you just busted out with some seriously funky ass shit

  • hey guys i just wanted to let you guys know about this awsome bass lessons i took. when i started i couldnt really play anything then i took these and now i can play anything, let me know if your interested and ill give you the link.. there unreal lessons

  • i think this helped with my slapping and popping alot... I used to get confused with all the mutes.. now that i consider them as drums it just happens automaticly and i can focus more on frets and notes.. the mutes arent even on my mind they just happen ^^ thanks alot

  • awesome your bass playing makes me happy and you helped me alot

  • how do you get that sound when ur makin the drum sound, cause my bass just doesnt get that sound whether muted, slappin or whatever, is it my bass or settin or ?...anyone

  • Come on mate! Give credit to whom its due! Larry Graham had this idea to imitate a drummer when at the time he didn't have one. To use it as an exercise for timing maybe somewhat ur idea. Cheers!

  • Did u get this idea from Larry Graham? He actually was the one who pioneered the demonstration u have posted here. What u have shown, is I believe, how Larry Graham invented the slap and pop.

  • Hey man! No, not at all! It's just something I did years ago when I watched t.v and stuff. When friends were on the playstation, I would just play along to the beats of the little songs on the games and stuff. :) It's just a great technique to brush up on timing...

  • hell yeah! very interesting idea

  • lmao dude your soo cool

"if it works it works if it doesnt ditch it bin it lmao idk what you said but i wanna be just like you

    nice playing btw!

  • abandon it in the trash is american terms

  • Damn that was crazy man! I bet you could do an amazing solo

  • Dude this is awesome! Is there any chance you could do video lessons at all? If I record a video of me playing and you can see where I am at skill wise then you record a video for me maybe? I can pay via payal! Cheers dude!

  • Yea man, we can get this done. PM me if you're interested...

  • holy shit, youre amazing

  • Thanks, tman....:)

  • less is more. be more groove.. anywhere nice job bro

  • I Like you're face when you're playing haha :D

  • Everyone who plays an instrument has a "gamer face". Its part of being an awesome musician

  • Whats a gamer face ?

  • its an intense look you get when you're focused

  • that didn't help me much but it was fucking cool :)

  • hmmm...intermediate...ly extremely advanced???

  • nahh it actually is pretty easy

  • Yeah, I remember how it was when I started out playing the guitar and how everything seemed so complicated and just WOW. Now only the really big guy manage to impress me. Ah well, back to bassics...Can't believe I said that.

  • well, i must be really sad bevause i have watched this video so many times, i love you tutorials, and since i have stopped taking keyboard lessons, i am trying to persade me fater to pay for some of the 'non-free' ones on your web site !!

i truly am one of your bigest (and saddest) fans !!

i think this is potraying me badly so i will just leave it as, you are insparational for aspiering bassests, keep up the good work !!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!

    simple stuff??? that was good...funny...

  • hey i have a question, i'm a beginner bass player. I was wondering why my A string sounds way louder than the E string. I play a song where i use notes from the E and the A string and the A string sounds way louder. I tried to mess around with my EQ but i couldn't get the E string to sound the same as my A string. Do you know why??

  • Hmm, that sounds a bit odd. Look at your strings from the bridge down. Are all your strings aligned evenly over your pick-ups? They should all be on exactly the same level...

  • Hey i wonderd if you could help i play bass in a heavy metal band i play in drop b and just use a pick but i was wondering if you know any other techniques that could make m sound more aggressive or heavy thanks

  • Playing chords gives a heavy kinda sound. Also, get your self some distortion or over drive. Mix that with a dropped string, learn a few chords and you have a very heavy sound! Good luck with it..:)

  • i think im gonna cry

  • do the seinfeld theme!

  • lol, mabye it's just becuse i'v only had my bass for 2 weeks or so but that doesen't seem particularly simple, thank you for uploading all these vids though, they will deffinitly help me out:)

  • Hiya man!

Yea, this isnt that simple. But, because a few people said that, I made a simple version of this! It's in my channel, so take a look...

    Take care.

    Kris.

  • if that's simple.. what's difficult? :|

    useful vid though :D

  • Fuckin nice one dude, got any more tips?

  • "simple stuff"

    dammit

  • Haha, but thanks for taking the time to make these tips.

  • *after playing*....simple stuff.

lol....its so hard....thanks for the log

  • I did another, more simple version of this vid for people...Take a look...:)

  • How do you move your hand that fast? mine get tired after 5 sec and I'm not even fat.

  • lol, u don't get tired if u wan't to slap and pop even if u r fat, you'r just lazy.

  • agreed that or you need to practice more

  • U removed one right:)? so that the ones with 4 strings can learn.

  • Holy crap that's good i cheked out ur website

sry if i spell wrong, i'm swedish

  • I like the way you did that. Now, my drummer won't bitch about me about timing thanks this really helpful video. Thanks a lot. btw, you got any other videos?

  • Yea man!

    At Dmanlamius . com

    :D

  • Hey mate, do you have any other stuff? More like intermediate stuff? I've been playing bass for like 5 years now. So, speed's not really an issue. Also, I've viewed a few of the other videos. Your skill is remarkable. Oh, "Beautiful Butterfly" I believe it's called is fricken ridiculous

  • dammmmn!!! man!.. that is just too fast!!

im trying to do it and i can't get it man!

  • Would you guys want me to do a slower version of the vid?

  • really??.

  • well...yeah...cuz it is too fast and we cant

    get the notes man...=(

  • yeah, that might help. THX

  • Ok, I did a slower one, with some words of wisdom as well!

    :D

  • thats a easy comparison to a drum amchine on a bass.. your just to fast :s

  • that wasn't him slowing down the rythm, it's just a rest

  • Thankyou.

I think he means 1:49? If so, then yea, thats not going "out of time". Just swinging it out a little, ala Primus or some modern Jazz.

    :D

  • its cool at 1:59 where he slows down and changes the timing. good stuff man!

  • I dont slow down and change the timing at 1:59?

I dont understand your negative comment about my "bad timing" on this vid (which i've now deleted.) I dont have a drummer on these vids, and am just playing by ear for people to learn. If these videos dont help you, then im sorry, but please just let everyone else benefit from them, and you focus on your own projects.

    Take care :)

  • You fucking freak. this guy comes on here and teaches people for no dollar and you just give him shit? you should be shot.learn a bit more about timing techs and jazz before you open your mouth.

  • your just showing off

  • u are a beast dude! really nice! i just started tryin to learn the bass and that shit is a little overwhelming! haha

  • "Simple stuff, rly" :))

  • im a beginner at bass and you inspired me bro... thats for a million....

  • marry me!! ^^

    hahaha

  • nice one mate... one hero of mine is John Paul Jones (Zep) and im not so fussed with the ol slap n sh*t but more fluidity around the scale (which you love as much as me !) - i can play guitar ok but now learning Bass Philosophy to play in a 3 piece band... i need inspiration .. can you help dude? with suggestions

    cheers, Gil

  • ur sick!! thats fucking not simple! XD

  • "simple stuff really..." hahahhahaha you're funny

  • How do i setup my pickups

  • Some ... tabs ... please .... ? Easy? EASY?!

  • you shouldnt rely to much on tabss... youll improve much if you just learn guitar by yourself..^^, its also alot of fun., youll be proud of yourself! i promise**

  • i know i dont really look for tabs cuz i cant read them but i try to play by ear and it works and fun liek you said i like the expirimenting if ya know wut i meen

  • goodgoodgood, but flea is better

  • XD

Thats a good thing! If I ever got as good as my hero's, I think it would freak me out!

  • You're well on your way :O

  • your a very good teacher. Thanks a lot

  • "simple stuff" lol! haha. thats funny.

    yea ur good.

  • Thanks dude, you really helped me, I learned slaping a couple months ago, and haven't used it in a while, and this has really helped me along. Thanks dude!

  • wow, looks like your hand is going in fast motion. awesome vid! thanks for posting the lessons! they're a great help.

  • that's whwt u called simple?gaddamn...that's awesome man!!

  • awesome

  • Are you muting the E-String with your thumb?

  • lmao "simple stuff" that slapping was amazing

  • ahah thats what i was just thinking

  • i hope i dont get that syndrone thing :( i play piano, and im lucky i didnt get it. i never did exercises i just jumped straight into complex blues, but now i do it really relaxed and it does not strain my hand or fingers. i want to play bass, so do u think i will find it a bit easier to toughen my fingers, or am i just puuting myself at more risk?

  • You have some crazy skills!

    I like your playing =]

  • oooh boy, this issssssssss HARD! lmbo

  • amazing...

  • new at this your vids help a shitload

    thnx for posting

    keep it uo :)

  • "as simple as that!" @ 2:10 fuck you dude!

  • I don't think he was suggesting that the slap and popping was easy... just keeping the rythem...

You are an amazing guitarist though and your lessons really have helped me.

  • Oh! I didnt mean it in an arrogant way:'( It's like a figure of speech...

You guys should come over to my new forum at dmanlamius . com.

  • Yay, that is why bass is called a rhythm instrument ;o)

  • hey man great job again. i kinda have technique like the one you use except i cant really play along to my muted rythm yet.

  • Keep at and practise, practise, practise...! Thats all the secret is.:)

  • sounds great, im fairly new to bass just trying to get the whole slap and pop mute to sound good. i have now tried imagining the drums and it really does help with the rythem and timing for me, thanks for the tip, hopefully one day i will be slapping like you.

  • in new to bass playing too, but timing isnt my issue, im good with that, its just the slap and pop bit, i can do them both but not at the same time, im working on it though!

  • tat is COOL! man!! d slap is not simple, is simply AWSOME!!

  • thanks for contacting me, this is great stuff man

  • awsome man it really helped and by the way you are a really good bass player
