So gorgeous!!! I love how the Russian Orthodox Church takes its music seriously. It's hard to come by such beautiful singing in the Western church, except for large cathedrals and the like.
Hallo Elizabeth, Thanks for the video and the most beautiful voices I have ever heard .Do you know if there are any professional recording of this choir on Kolomenkoye. I love your recordings, but this should be professionally recorded
this is so beautiful and needs to be saved for all of us. If I could be of any help please let me know
vorrei sapere chi è l'autore di questa esecuzione ed il titolo- se fosse possibile sapere anche se posso trovare altre esecuzioni di questo piccolo ma magnifico coro GRAZIE
The composer of this version is the Russian composer Frunza. The Magnificat is sung during the All Night Vigil served on Saturday evenings and on the eves of Great Feasts in the Orthodox church. The text is from the gospel of St Luke.
thank you google, something pure an godfull -redemption- goes in internet, we can hace the chants of the xerubin and the serapin, but all this was predicted by the freat prophet daniel blagosloviet dusha maia gospodi
2) He hath shewed strength with his arm : he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat : and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things : and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel : as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever.
Yes, these are the words of the Magnificat (sung during the ninth Ode of the Canon at Matins). The words of the refrain in English are:
"More honorable than the Cherubim and incomparably more glorious than the Seraphim; who, without corruption, gavest birth to God the Word: true Theotokos, we magnify thee."
"Theotokos" is the dogmatic title for the Mother of God, appointed by the third Ecumenical Council of the Christian Church. 'Deipara' is the Latin equivalent.
1) My soul doth magnify the Lord : and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his handmaiden. For behold, from henceforth : all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me : and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him : throughout all generations.
a resplendant feast of sonorous perfection, quenches my soul with every haunting note,as though chimes stirred by the breeze from angels wings, beautiful
My eyes well with tears every time I hear this. That one lady's voice is just heartbreakingly beautiful, and the whole choir sounds like a chorus of angels!
it is incredible that even we as terrible sinners can sing as though we came straight from heaven :) touches the very soul that cries out for christ. God bless you all !!!
Overweldigend deze zangeres. Vrede straalt deze muziek uit met een diepe boodschap aan ons mensen.Ook al geloof men nergens in ,deze muziek zet je aan het denken en zorg er voor dat er vanzelf een gebed volgt.
This is actually verses from the Magnificat (My soul doth magnify the Lord) sung by the soloist, with the hymn, Dostoino Yest - More honorable than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim; Thou, Who without defilement gavest birth to God the Word, true Birth-giver of God we magnify thee - interspersed between the verses.
More honourable than the cherubim and truly more glorious than the seraphim who without defilement gavest birth to God the Word, thee, the true Mother of God, do we magnify.
Worthiest Cherubim and gloriest incomparable Seraphim, born without rotting the Word of God, our pure Mother of God, we praise you. Hope its comprehendible enough! ;)

Here is the full translation without chorus:
1) My soul doth magnify the Lord : and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his handmaiden. Without rotting sounds rather strange though in English. Sometimes a direct translation can sound weird.
I'd think "without corruption" is better placed in this case.

How we sing in English:
It is truly meet to bless Thee, o Theotokos
Who art ever blessed and all-blameless and the mother of our God
More honorable than the Cherubim,
and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim
Thou who without stain barest God the Word
True Theotokos, we magnify Thee.
According to tradition, it was revealed to monks on Mt. Athos by the angel Gabriel.
