  • '40 Rap!

  • Thank You For Smoking

  • I for one am not confused. being born to a family from S.C. in the mountain area it is like a southern double speak he is putting them down and smoking one at the same time. Hope this might clear things up. ThePoboyms61s

  • Is no one confused by him saying 'Now it ain't cos I don't smoke them myself....I've smoked them all my life and I ain't dead yet'.

  • Hahaha the 48 states, this song is showing it's age.

  • My surgeon general says that smoking is good for you.

  • "I smoke 'em all my life and I ain't dead yet"

This sounds really ironic because Tex, being two-packs-a-day smoker, he died of lung cancer.

Fuck cigarettes, this is a weapon worse than nuclear bomb to thin out the population... It is a quiet assassin who pretends your best friend and stabs you when you need him the most.

  • @ElectricGuitarManPL it would be if he died of lung cancer, but he died of pancreatic cancer, so it's not really ironic

  • Is that Merle Travis to Tex's right?

  • thank you for smoking ;)

  • i want a smoke bitches

  • I learned this song as a youngster, and later backed up Tex on a few gigs in Alaska early 70's. Real crowd pleaser....

  • U MAD BRO

  • Thumbs up if you knew this song before My Name is Earl, LA Noire, and any stupid youtube videos :D

  • @xlt2k how about no you fucking loser. no one knows this song and you're just a piece of shit for doing that "thumbs up if" thing. i hope you die choking on a back alley bums cum

  • LMAO! This song makes me want to cry, I grew up listening to this song. I still remember the days we played this while chatting with all the WWII vets at the VFW hall.

  • My name is Earl brought me here!

  • Thumbs up if that douche's troll combat arms video brought you here.

  • LA. NOIRE!!! Always listen to this while driving

  • L.A. Noire

  • i love it. its catchy, and its on LA NOIRE.

  • Thumbs up if you liked Thank you for Smoking.

  • Is that Merle Travis sitting next to Tex?

  • I don't seem to get tired of hearing this song in free roam on LA Noire. Some of the others, though...

  • first rap music

  • TEX RITTER'S VERSION IS BETTER

  • i can imagine primus covering this

  • They must add this on Fallout San Fransico

  • you mean lady gaga,ke$a,usher and fucking justin bieber fuckshit

  • @mk6894521 yeah u can say that again

  • I love the old 40s music compared to this lady gaga bullshit

  • LA NOIRE

  • This was made in teh 1940s Lol

  • I still wonder how my Great uncle Solie got the name TEX. But he and my granddad and other great uncles played so good.

I wish I had the discipline.

  • You could call this jump jazz meets country! Great example!

  • @tacomadc this would be called jump jazz meets country, check out excellent singer and band Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. This song was also covered by Commander Cody another band you might love if you like this!

  • @tacomadc Or Western Swing perhaps.....

  • What's the name of this genre of music?

  • @GrumpyShow Western Swing.

  • love how he says dont reckon theyll hinder your health

  • Didn't know it before L.A Noire

  • @Aurudin LOL, me neither! I normally don't like Country, but it was my favorite song off of the game's soundtrack. (The Blues songs off of LA Noire were great, too!)

  • The guy sitting to Tex Williams' right looks like Merle Travis, the person who wrote this song.

  • not L. A. noire, thank you for smoking :D

  • im only 20 and i knew this song befor L.A noire

  • l.a. noire

  • L a noire

  • haha I just heard this on my car radio while playing L.A. Noire.. I started laughing like crazy. I am 37 yrs old, never smoked a thing in my life and think its very and truly disgusting.. This 40's song sums it personally on what smokers do!

  • Before this was on L.A. Noire it was the song playing in the opening credits on "Thank You For Smoking" such a great film!

  • First time I heard this on L.A. Noire I was like...'yes, just yes.'

  • @lankinator24 I did too---i had to find out who sang it

  • LA NOIRE.

  • This song is awesome

  • Smoking SUCKS if people don't respect the breathing space of the non-smokers. I am for the right of smokers, but when the guy in the apartment below me stands outside on this balcony and the shit goes into my apartment, then I'm not so happy. If I wanted smoke in my apartment, I'd be a smoker. And this isn't a put down of smokers, in fact I sell cigarettes, and as long as people can find that common ground of smoking areas and non-smoking areas and everyone respect each other.

  • @EuroTom1 Your neighbor seems like a dick.

  • I had me a cigarette so now I'll point out that Joe Maphis is playing guitar in this song. Cheers mates !

  • I'm not smoking! The cigarette is!

  • ya real nice! @ kylewattel get a fucking life... fucking jerk!

  • Who's on guitar???

  • Tell me again! Who invented rap?

  • My uncle did a verison of this song and I love it! I love this one too but I would have to say that I love my unlce sandy's better! He knew Tex williams so I would have to say that he did him well!

  • @hager0622 fuck you

  • @hager0622 don't care

  • my 33 year old son asked me to download this i nearly wet myself ,he said mum listen to it all the way through ,he wants it on his ring tone pmsl think hes lost the plot

  • @KATRINABURNSIDE Tell your son to get a job.

  • smoking is killing me why god i cant stop i dont wanna die

  • haha this is quite a song

  • That's Merle Travis singing harmony!!!!!

  • im smoking right now, cant listen to it XD

  • @freakspider69zk me too lol

  • One of the ALL time favorites from my Mother's Hymns.

  • i been smokin' for 45 years, ain't dead yet :)

  • it sounds like joe maphis is playin the lead guitar. is that him?

  • @jaimev21 The tune was written by Merle Travis, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was Merle, but it sure does sound like Joe Maphis...

  • A reformed chain smoker...I know the habit well.

  • i know this song from the film "thank you for smoking" :D nice song

  • I was hoping to find a video of Hank Thompson doing "Smoke Smoke That Cigarette." I was damn glad to find this one by Tex Williams!

  • LEGEND

  • Excellent!

  • The band that accompanies Tex Williams on this song is called "The Western Caravan"!

  • Notice Merle Travis, in the solid shirt, is in the vid. He wrote the song.

  • Now this is music! Smoke that cigarette!

  • This has gotta be...what... THE first music video?

  • @Gederic1 Nope, that would be the Dickson Experimental Sound Film.

  • @Gederic1

Yeah... And a white guy invented rap music just right there!

  • epic song

  • @georgerock95 i think you mean "have a cigar" haha.

  • hahahahaha

    yeeah

    now i remember it

    lol thanks

  • Great Song.

  • Smoking causes terminal coolness.

  • Anybody can quit smoking. It takes a real man to face cancer.

    Denis Leary

  • right on

  • @JakeHead28 Right...so are doctor's bills and funerals...

  • Disgusting habit, but admittedly an irresistible record. Tex Williams re-recorded this classic for Boone Records in 1968 and the newer version is actually better. Ironically, Williams died of lung cancer.

  • Actually, pancreatic cancer, IIRC.

  • Comment removed

  • You're right about pancreatic cancer. Some of his bios do confirm that. Interestingly enough, at the time of his death, the obit that I read attributed it to lung cancer. Whatever the case, it's ironic.

  • My Name is Earl^^ LOL

  • habs auch grad auf RTL geguckt :-D

  • @ESPsplit yeah :D:D

  • smoking is good for you

  • maybe smoking weed is...

  • You know what kills people more than anything else???............. Death

  • rofl song

  • smokin is bad... but who gives a shit right :D

  • Thumbs up dude...

  • lol. fuck yeah bro.

  • It's damn true, and damn annoying.

You'd think you'd be able to do shit whilest smoking. Seriously, it's not hard to lift a bit of fag to your mouth and do something else with the other hand.

  • Love this song....here's to smoking and f-ing the government and their f-ing taxes!

  • @Boethius51250

Unless you steal your smokes or grow your own, you paid the government and their taxes on your cigs.

    :-)

In "Capitalist" America, government f's you!

  • Buy online...

  • Thank you for smoking ;)

  • Ironically, Tex Williams would eventually die of...lung cancer.

  • pancreatic cancer actually in 1985 so no your wrong

  • okay, earlier reports said lung cancer. Pancreatic is also higher with smokers, though. I don't know whether or not he smoked.

  • He died of pancreatic cancer... so... noup

  • Rinsed.

  • this is too engelhart1959,.....merl travis wrote this song

  • nice song!!

  • I used to listen to my parents 78's when I was really little.. they had this record. I listened to it over and over.. Loved it.

  • iimm stiill goonnna diee some dayy ...

soo fuckkk ittt lettss keepp onn puufffiiinn thatt ciigarreettee♥

  • I can just imagine how Preachers were when Tex Williams wrote that song.

  • Tex had the big hit on "Smoke, etc", but Merle Travis wrote the song.

  • lol this song makes me laugh, sounds funny, its good tho i like it

  • GREAT SONG !! Merle Travis wrote the tune - he is sitting at the poker table eft of Tex.

  • LOL everything kills you these days...

  • lung cancer you mean

  • I thought it was pacreatic cancer

  • I was attending Case Institute of Technology, Clevelan, O in 1947 as a foreign, argentine student, and this theme caught me very strongly. I used to go around the campus singing smoke, smoke a cigarette and provoking smiles all arround. I loved it without knowing what the future of tobaccl was going to be. God bless Tex Williams and his country songs.

  • Thats my them song!

  • La version Française est de Eddy Mitchell... Fume Fume Fume cette cigarette

  • i really want to comment this but will in a moment after a cigarette

  • lol i knew this song sounded familular in Thank You For Smokin... i just couldn't remember who sang it

  • love this song

  • This was the #1 song in the nation on my birthdate in 1947. Wow!!

  • this is a great video--i am much more used to the commander cody version

  • Love it. First heard this song before I started smoking. Five stars!

  • great song. I am absolutely loving the older stuff these days.

  • Right now, I just gotta have that cigarette, wow!

  • Tex Williams is my great uncle. Thanks for the post.

  • I think I went to grade school with one of your relatives. You have an aunt named Sandy?

  • NOBODY KNOWS IF Charlie Daniels says this

  • this guy grew up in my hometown of Ramsey, IL the biggest shithole place in the world lol

  • Fucking amazing :D

  • One of the rat pack did a far far better version of this.

I think it might have been Sammy

  • This is Actuall Tex Ritter, John Ritter's Dad

  • thats not tex ritter

  • I smoked Camels when I started driving big rigs Camels, coffee and diesel fumes - what a way to go.

  • Damm. That's what killed my Dad . It is a miserable , long term way to die.

  • Nope, and it's not such a great way to live either but it's what I did. My habit got so bad I had smoked up to about 3 packs a day.

I have since scaled back down to a pack a day.

I wish I could quit. It's a heck of a habit to quit. a real baddie.

  • Imagine an old time music video

  • Oh you don't always die from tobacco

Sometimes you just lose a lung

Oh you don't always die from tobacco

Sometimes they just snip out your tongue

And you won't sing worth a heck

With big hole in your neck

Oh you don't always die from tobacco...

  • The Tex Ritter version is the best. is not as fast and forced as this one.

  • That is Merle Travis to the left of Tex; he wrote this song for Tex. He also wrote '16 tons', '9 pound hammer' and a bunch of other great songs and was an incredible guitar player as well.

  • My Uncle smoked 6 packs a day until the day he died..mind you, he was only 23 when it happened.

  • was that when he died or when he started?

  • He actually died of lung cancer, at age 68...

  • am i the only one that realizes this is an anti-smoking song?

  • Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death....

    "Thanks" for increacing cancer.

  • Marlboros are fine, but gimme a Lucky any day!

  • Agreed.

  • better after sex though!

  • Luckies are best for anything, especially the post-coitus cigarette. You flip over two; one for luck and one for fuck.

  • i wish i could have 1 im hanging for 1! give me the marlboro!

  • oh,that looks like a very early rap song. :P

  • Anybody got "Here's To You And Me" by Tex, It's A Great Song from the 70's I think.

  • Somebody knows if it's from a movie?

  • Oh no. This song is ancient!
