I don't really know the first thing about training a horse with a carriage, but it looks like the cart they have hooked up to her is not the kind of thing you would train with! It's as though someone grabbed an old school trough and said "Slap some wheels on it and we'll have her pull it. It'll be great!" The poor girl is terrified! Go slow with her and let her LEARN. Training isn't usually a "sink or swim" kind of thing....

It is themselves they should be learning not the poor horse. I break my own horses to drive and it takes weeks of long reining to get the horse to understand what you want him to do.

Then more weeks using the harness and getting the feel of the harness and straps on his back and the breaching on his hind quarters (BRAKES) . He needs to get used to the weight on the collar and learn to pull by pulling a person along putting weight on the collar by pulling back on the tracers while the horse is going forward, its easier pulling a person along because if the horse is not at ease with the weight on the collar the weight is released easily by the person holding the tracers.
When the horse is at ease with pulling weight you can put him the drag and attach the harness to a tyre or log you need at least two preferably three people when you do this for the first time, one to drive the horse one to walk at the horses head to lead or hold him if necessary and one to take care of the attached tyre or log he is pulling and to be ready to disconnect if needed.
All this work should be done before you get to the point where the horse is introduced into pulling a vehicle. Some horses pick it up easier than others, but the poor horse in this video is scared and does not have an idea what to do and has obviously not been taut the basics. It has ill fitting harness with no breaching straps(BRAKES) on. These girls and the horse were lucky they didn't get seriously hurt.
I'm so bored of hearing "if a horse doesn't want to do something, he wont do it" .......... of course the'll do it. Regardless of horse size, we humans WILL and DO whip/spur etc horses until they give in and stop resisting. This is no way to introduce a horse... to anything.
It looks as though obviously, that they're trying to wagon train the horse...and it's fidgeting since it's not used to it. And they haven't once hit the horse. Overreacting...

The horse could have broken its leg and hurt the people trying to train it! the harness wasnt the best, and they should have stopped when the horse first started to freak out. They should have started off small with a log or tire and then paired the horse up with another trained mature horse who knows what its doing. and horse abuse doesn't always mean hitting the horse, they could have easily hurt this horse, it could have died.
@DreamOnX4 That is true about the harness, but the horse is a very strong animal. And yea, they could've, but it didn't fortunately. Still i do think it's overreacting, horses aren't balloons.

They horse looked like it had never pulled something before, so if they started out small with something lighter then the horse might have not freaked out. and yea if a horse breaks its leg then it is pretty much dead, unless the horse is a famous race horse for example most people put their horses down when they break a leg. And the horse was pretty close to injuring its self when it was jumping over the cart.

I've driven horses before from minis to big shires .There should be abit of harness that goes around the hindquarters to keep the harness in place & act as breaks .Then the breaking itself -_-" Start small would've been best , a tire or a log or even as I did with my old pony pull back ever so slightly on the harness & get him to walk on until he gets the idea .My thoughts ; when these people are ready to learn how do it it correctly come see me.

Tunahelper19647 These people don't have a clue how to break a horse to harness and neither do you ! Your knowledge of horsemanship could not fill the back of a first class stamp. It is themselves they should be learning not the poor horse. I break my own horses to drive and it takes weeks of long reining to get the horse to understand what you want him to do.

Then more weeks using the harness and getting the feel of the harness and straps on his back and the breaching on his hind quarters (BRAKES) . He needs to get used to the weight on the collar and learn to pull by pulling a person along putting weight on the collar by pulling back on the tracers while the horse is going forward, its easier pulling a person along because if the horse is not at ease with the weight on the collar the weight is released easily by the person holding the tracers.

When the horse is at ease with pulling weight you can put him the drag and attach the harness to a tyre or log you need at least two preferably three people when you do this for the first time, one to drive the horse one to walk at the horses head to lead or hold him if necessary and one to take care of the attached tyre or log he is pulling and to be ready to disconnect if needed.

All this work should be done before you get to the point where the horse is introduced into pulling a vehicle. Some horses pick it up easier than others, but the poor horse in this video is scared and does not have an idea what to do and has obviously not been taut the basics. It has ill fitting harness with no breaching straps(BRAKES) on. These girls and the horse were lucky they didn't get seriously hurt.

I'm so bored of hearing "if a horse doesn't want to do something, he wont do it" .......... of course the'll do it. Regardless of horse size, we humans WILL and DO whip/spur etc horses until they give in and stop resisting. This is no way to introduce a horse... to anything.

The horse could have broken its leg and hurt the people trying to train it! the harness wasnt the best, and they should have stopped when the horse first started to freak out. They should have started off small with a log or tire and then paired the horse up with another trained mature horse who knows what its doing. and horse abuse doesn't always mean hitting the horse, they could have easily hurt this horse, it could have died.

They horse looked like it had never pulled something before, so if they started out small with something lighter then the horse might have not freaked out. and yea if a horse breaks its leg then it is pretty much dead, unless the horse is a famous race horse for example most people put their horses down when they break a leg. And the horse was pretty close to injuring its self when it was jumping over the cart.

I have trained my own horses and i know how to read a horse. and how to treat one. u say u know a lot about training but your words show otherwise. horses must be treated with respect and understanding of their natures. not abused,. forcing a horse to do a fearful thing is abuse.

For a start that Harness is completely crap ! I've driven horses before from minis to big shires .There should be abit of harness that goes around the hindquarters to keep the harness in place & act as breaks .Then the breaking itself -_-" Start small would've been best , a tire or a log or even as I did with my old pony pull back ever so slightly on the harness & get him to walk on until he gets the idea .My thoughts ; when these people are ready to learn how do it it correctly come see me.
