  • Thank you thank you, for making my heart sing, the love flows from eyes in sweet tears to hear you.

  • I find this vocal by Ree-Ree simply beautiful. So touching.

  • I've never heard/seen Aretha caress a song so tenderly!

  • ANGEL

  • t'es sur quelle chante français? parce que j'entend rien de français là

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • Perhaps 1977 was a different time, but I doubt a French singer would perform on a NY stage completely en français a quintessential American heartland song such as Hound dog (Elvis), Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd), The Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding). Although she sings well, I personally feel that singing the English version in Paris is a bit gauche.

  • @Branded624 I understand your point. It would've been marvelous if she sang in French.

  • @Branded624 I was excited to hear Ms. Franklin sing in French...I'm a little disappointed she didn't. Although I do think it would play out differently today...in our more globalized media culture many artists take time to record in several languages.

  • @Branded624 Oh please...give it a rest. It's all good.

  • she is amazing!!!

par contre elle galère un peu avec le français :)

  • Reina Aretha!!!!

  • I Love Aretha, mas La Vie Rose só em francês

  • Thank you Ms. Franklin, for the most beautiful rendition of any song I ever heard. xox

  • OH MY GOD!!!! She does this so GOOD.

  • As a vocalist, I can only dream of one day mastering the control over my voice like Aretha could. Cest bon!

  • Sometimes a melody needs to stay a melody. Edith #1, Celine #2, several others, this ???

  • @yfrancoeur That's why it's called a rendition.........The melody doesn't always have to stay a melody.........It's a personal take on a popular song.....

  • Only such an amazingly great artist could survive such things as the overmodulation behind her, or the impossible wardrobe they've dressed her in. But, since she's Aretha, it in the end doesn't matter.

  • My continued love to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin!

  • 3:47 is amazing; the way she sings and belt out that note is beautiful. Aretha proves that she can she anything. ;-)

  • Pure Beauty!

  • sooo smoooooth :)

  • Wow! She was great b4 she lost her voice!

  • gives me a chill-she is so beautiful

  • THIS IS FANTASTIC. SHE OWNS THIS. SO MUCH.

  • Great cover : ). Listen also to Louis Armstrongs cover. Beautifull covers =]

  • @mortitio when your a singer you sing the song the way you feel like singing it. not how you think she should sing it. it's like when you by Music I'm sure you by what you like not what someone trys to get you to buy.Right. then don't say that about how she should sing the song. unless you can do Better..lol

  • If Aretha is a big fat hog than why the fuck did you come on here. Bottom line Aretha is amazing, no matter what the hell you think.

  • @jetit learn English will you - the difference between your and you're.

  • god she can take any song no matter what it is and make it so beautifully soulful. la vie en rose is an edith piah master piece and usually i don't like it when other singers take songs that other singers originated and made there own, but with aretha it doesn't matter i love it but mostly I LOVE ARETHA I BOW DOWN 2 THE QUEEN OF SOUL

  • Aretha, you are the most amazing woman of soul! I wish you were still here.

  • Aretha is a fantastic singer . . . of Soul/R&B, period. She is, however, INCAPABLE of anything else, period. This is yet another example of her attempt to sing a different style and failing miserably. This is a song that requires sticking to the beautiful melody that was written and NOT taking liberties that butcher that melody.

  • Tell me, did you mother drop you on your head as a kid or are you simply an idiot. Aretha has proven time and time again that she is able to sing every genre of music and this only support the claim. If you go back into her carrer from Columbia Record to singing Nessun Dorma at the grammy. She has proven that she is able to tackle any genre of music. Saying that she is merely a soul/rnb is the understatment of a lifetime. When there is hundreds even thousands of her work that says different.

  • I meant career.

  • @TheQueenAretha You have an infantile understanding of music and lack comprehensive debate skills. Interesting that you'd mention "Nessum Dorma" Opera as R&B=horrible!!!

  • Did you read anything i said. Can you read? I never said that Opera is RnB that is a stupid thing to say in the first place. Opera and RnB are two different genres. Her interpretation on its own proves that Aretha is able to sing anything she wants.

  • 95% of Aretha is alway on top. Aretha shines like a star in the genres of jazz, pop, blues, gospel, swing and even broadway tunes. This goes to show that you wouldn't know quality music if it bit you on your ass. This is an flawless interpretation. Aretha is all about bringing her message across and she always suceeds. No one understand a melody better than Aretha. Have you heard her sing What I Did For Love, Oh Me Oh My. There isn't a singer a i know that is as versatile as Aretha.

  • Nothing about Aretha arrangement buthers the melody. She brings new light to this masterpiece and no one can do what Aretha can do. She is sing the phonebook and have it be an spectacular work of art.

  • Brilliant ! what more can one say.

  • Thx 4 posting. "La Vie En Rose" (mean "cool or nice life ". But don't forget french singer Edith Piaf. I prefer Edith version. So it is normal i am french lol.

    Aretha is great singer...

    Eric from France

  • What does, "uh-shun-tae", means? She sings it at 4;49 & 4;51.

  • enchanté- nice to meet you

  • Thanks for the bilingual lesson 101.

  • First, I love that dress.

Second, i prefer Edith to anyone singing that song, excepting perhaps Mister Bola de Nieve. But I sincerely think that somewhere in heaven there was a smiling Edith Piaf listening to this SUPERB interpretation by Miss Franklin.

  • The lyrics- make me cry and miss my love one......... Hold me close and hold me fast The magic spell you cast This is la vie en rose When you kiss me heaven sighs And tho I close my eyes I see la vie en rose When you press me to your heart I'm in a world apart A world where roses bloom And when you sing angels sing from above Everyday words seem.....to turn into love song Give your heart and soul to me And life will always be La vie en rose
  • Thank you for posting this vintage clips. We all LOVE your passionate soulful rendition. Aretha.....you reign forever !!

  • i love this

  • When Aretha is at her best she makes you go through so many aspects of love, truthfully right through them.

  • thankyou so much for posting! One of my favs!
