  • Don't know what they call it w/dogs, but w/horses, that's a sidepass! And a nicely done one, too!

  • @stonedragonfarm I think it is called a side pass with dogs too... :) Thank you! We are still working on it and he is still learning, but gets better everyday! :)

  • How many heel vids do I have to peruse to learn how to do it?

  • @Dehzee Check out Kikopup channel and watch her rear end awareness video on teaching complex tricks. Start with that exercise. I will try to do a series on heeling when I have more time.

  • the T position also looks like a cross. So you could call it that too i guess ;)

  • @CloudsRaindrop That is true, but I call crossing his paws, cross. :( The more tricks he knows the harder it is to think of cues. :)

  • @CloudsRaindrop THANK YOU!

  • @pamelamarxsen haha your welcome ;)

  • Man, usually I feel pretty confident as a trainer, but I CANNOT get my dog to understand heeling. And we all know it's the human's fault when the dog doesn't understand. Frustrating... But Twix looks awesome!!

  • I love his little bark he has. Great job Twix!

  • Twix heel work look really snazzy already, it looks very good! I know what your talking about healwork seems boring to but you can make it fun by making it more upbeat by just adding some turns or another cool moves. Twix looks like he's having a blast! I don't usually do much healwork with my dogs but after watching this video, I want to do more :)

  • @MsBorderCollieLover I think that by adding tricks with the heelwork is making me change my tune on it. I have really enjoyed working on it and I need to shoot more video as his heelwork is really looking good. He is still not prancing like Bandit, but I am capturing and clicking when he does have nice prancing moments. :) I think that the more my attitude changes toward heelwork the better the dogs are doing with it. :))

  • "T" makes more sense to me, as I seem to be more of a visual/tactile person. One of the hardest things for me is to come up with good verbal and hand cues that I can remember. Great job!

  • @azmauigirl I agree! Also, the more the dogs know the harder it gets to make up new cues. :)

  • Love this video! Given me some great ideas for some new games to play when practicing heelwork :). Its great to hear someone else using the 'heel' command, everyone in the UK uses 'close' for obedience heelwork! I personally dont like it, it is heelwork after all!

  • @mikadogluva I know that many hate the word "heel" because of all the old traditional ways of teaching a dog to "heel", but I think that "heel" is easier for me to remember and my dogs do not know any different. They just think it is a fun cue, they do it and they get reinforced for it. HEHE!

  • @mikadogluva BTW, thank you for your really nice comment.

  • @pamelamarxsen Yep same here. And I personally think its a lot easier to say and completely different to anything else, I sometimes say 'close' if I just want them near me. My dogs hear 'heel' and are there with eager eyes and a wagging tail ready to do heelwork!

  • LOVELY WORK PAM! He is very agile.

I also have BC's, he looks tall. Can I ask his height?

    Kim

  • That was brilliant!!!!

  • Très bonne année 2012 et beaucoup de satisfaction avec les toutous. Joëlle

  • very nice!

  • Wow! That is looking really nice. I can't wait to see what it will be like by the end of this year! :)

  • Are you kidding me???? You guys already have AMAZING HEEL WORK...wow! So impressive, well done. Thanks for sharing!

  • @maylacie Thank you, Bandit has great heelwork, but Twix can't heel for more than 10 steps without forging ahead. So, I decided to start with basics to make sure he understands. :) You are so nice, THANK YOU!

  • @pamelamarxsen well it sure looks like Twix is getting the basics down solid. Looks lovely on video!!!!! A pleasure to watch!!!!

  • How did you get such a fabulous "back around me". We're trying but not succeeding at that.

  • @ozpaws I started that backward circle trick when he was really young. First I did the box work to work on rear end awareness, then started training the backward circles. I started close to my couch, so that he had to move closer to me to avoid backing into the couch. Maybe that will help. Good Luck. Thanks, he is really coming along. :)

  • You could hall the "T" position "Side-passing" because thats what its called for horses =)

  • @Emilyyllove I think they do call it side passing for freestyle too, but for some reason I thought that was only if the human and dog were moving lateral. I guess it does not matter what I call it, but I need a cue for all directions probably. :) Thanks! I am sure you are right!

  • such a nice tight position, good job. Kathy with Liz/Breeze/Cricket

  • @bordergirlsmom Thanks Kathy, he is going to have sweet heelwork skills. :)

  • Awesome, your such a great handler!

  • @Jack0Maisie You are way to nice. I struggle when it comes to training heelwork. I have only had a change in my attitude toward heelwork in the last few days. Even though my other two dogs can do heelwork, I have always hated training it. However, Twix is making it fun because he has fun with everything I teach him. :)

  • great work!

  • @lexisdogs Thanks

  • good and nice job...

  • @educacao67 Thanks
