yea u have to fill it with air because to do this properly you have to remove the valve core if you dont thehot gas that put the tire on the rim will pop it right back off when it cools it will suck the tire in and it will pop off unless u have the core out so it can equalize the pressure this is mainly done to set the bead on a tire not to really inflate it
