  • It's amusing how they always keep the Galaxy class starships' registrations out of view so that no one realizes that they're all the NCC-1701-D Enterprise.

  • @namedonimpulse They didn't always. In a later episode, one of them gets close enough so we could see it was the USS Galaxy herself. (Apparently the class namesake survived longer than three of her younger sisters.) :)

  • Klingons, they always join at the end and hog all the glory.

  • 0:41 Galaxy gang bang.

  • now this is what I'm talking about. kinda reminds me of EVE online fleet battles.

  • My favorite part of the whole DS9 series right here...

  • What i still dont get is why the hell does Starfleet send Miranda Class starships to massive battles... You see them everywhere... Since most of them wont make it out of a battle alive (or even the ship still intact) they might as well use the computer to use it to kamikaze or something.

  • @TheLastPieceOfBacon - Mirandas are basically the filler ships: token ships to include so you can see actual federation casualties and such, but not important enough to make people wonder why it doesn't become a plot point that such-and-such a ship was destroyed.

  • Just noticed this, where do the two mirandas that are flanking the defiant in the initial charge go once the camera pans, at about 30 seconds in?

  • This battle is so unrealistic. I've accepted that they have spaceships, and warp drives, and every other coool space tech and weapons, but the battle is so illogical. They're in space!!! Why are hundreds of ships huddled in a tiny area where there is barely enough room to manuver?

  • @samysasy419 Of course ships are designed to engage at 100,000km+, but why not go for a knife fight if your enemy isn't expecting it?

  • @GangsterHutterite The enemy isn't expecting a knife fight, because the enemy brought guns, really big guns...

  • @samysasy419 Because it's a TV show, it's fake. If it was real they'd never fly past eachother and there would be nothing to watch.

  • you have long range weapons and a completely open battlefield where you can attack from literally any direction. why in the bluehell would you group your ships into a close formation where if the enemy misses one they may hit another? where a crippled ship has a high chance to hit a friendly ship or even friendly fire becomes a real issue? Why are these ships not spread in EVERY DIRECTION and why are they not hundreds if not thousands of miles apart from one another?

  • This part of DS9 is arguably one of the best space battles in the entirety composing DS9, TNG, and Voyager. It's also one of the few where the Federation's equivalent of a "fighter" ship shows up, the Peregrine. And it presents a clear case for the Defiant being likely the most powerful of any ship in the Federation, including yes, the Enterprise.

  • 1:40... have fun.

  • Love the Defiant.

  • I saw this but let me just ask.

    Where is the Fucking Enterprise????

  • @LordHannigan I think 0:40 might be Enterprise, or her sister ship Im not sure

  • @NemesisMarine01 I don't think so it would have been acknowledged. I think it was just another Galaxy class ships.

  • @NemesisMarine01

Enterprise was destroyed in 2371, this battle was in 2379.

The Galaxy classes here are most likely Challenger, Venture and other unnamed ships.

  • @HelmutVillam Awwh sucks that

  • @NemesisMarine01 By this time, the Enterprise you are thinking about was destroyed.

  • @LordHannigan Enterprise E was kept strictly as a movie ship which sucks I know.

  • 1:33

Honestly?!! How did two Birds-of-Prey and a Defiant-class manage to destroy a DOMINION BATTLESHIP with only a few hits???

  • @sephservant Have you ever played Star trek online before!

  • 0:40 You think you are hard Mr Cardassian ? Have some Galaxy Class Firepower....

  • Star wars is shit!

  • How desperate must the Federation be to send Miranda-class ships into battle?

  • @Pyradonis They were actually really desperate at this point in the war. They were pulling old ships out of mothballs to fill the ranks of destroyed ships. The Federation pulled out all the stops to retake DS9 because if they didn't, the war was as good as lost. At the point this battle took place, it was literally a matter of hours before the wormhole mines were disabled and the Dominion were able to simply pour through.

  • 1:29 bellissima azione

  • Star Wars don't stand a chance.

  • Star Fleet: EVERYONE DROP SHEILDS!

  • Look at what Star Trek has been reduced to. Starships dogfighting over a space station... Klingon officers serving in Star Fleet... Kirk stealing a car and getting beat up in a barfight... A super-human android wanting to be more human... Suliban fighting a temporal cold war with the past... Biological lifeforms assimilating one another into a collective... This is most illogical, Captain. Most illogical indeed.

  • I was always surprised with how 'conventional' these battles were, why wasn't everyone venting plasma or focusing polychron particles through their deflector arrays or something? So uncreative :P I also love how the ships are flying so close together they crash into eachother every time gets hit, if only space was infinite right?

  • @TheRhinehart86 And they always said space was so big.

  • @losigler Well, then they wouldn't be able to fit in on your TV screen.

  • where's the part where that octopus guy says It's a trap?

  • @NilChoudhury wrong franchise, dude

  • @B1izzardHawk Is this the one with the cylons? I like the remake they had on sci fi...

  • @B1izzardHawk so what ur telling me is that this battle was to help Frodo travel through Mordor by distracting Sauron's fleet of starships?

  • @NilChoudhury no, this is star trek deep space 9, the octopus guy saying that it's a trap is from Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi

  • @B1izzardHawk k, got it. So Buck Rogers is piloting one of those ships?

  • @NilChoudhury ok, now your just screwing with me

  • @B1izzardHawk So why don't those ships launch their mobile suits. Where is the Gundam?

  • ever play the Ultimate Universe mod for Star Trek Legacy? it has this battle in it i think...

  • @Belgarion234 i play galactic civilization

  • @jceiras

They're not shooting lasers, first off.

Second, go point a laser pointer at something from 5 feet away, now try it from 50 feet, 100 feet, and 1000 feet.

  • nananannananhanahanahna......Kligons? 1:19

  • This should be a movie... it's too bad they didn't give it the HUGE budget some StarWars movies had. The Dominion war would have been even more EPIC!

  • You know what would have been funny if when the to fleets were still waiting to attack a little ship maybe some sort of cargo ship (not involved in the war) just came out of warp between the two fleets and just have a WTF moment before running off

  • @CymruAlteran LOL

  • Why can't they just go round them?

  • i would have loved to see intrepid class swooping around and blasting evryone

  • @miloootic Ya, notice how DS9 never used Intrepids or Sovereign classes in their space battles? Even though those are newer ship classes that clearly would be used in these battles..I think the reason they did this was so as not to confuse the audience into thinking it was either Voyager or the Enterprise E (since the movies came out around this time).Diehard Trekkies obviously would know its not either ship on DS9, but others might not.

  • Netflix now has TOS

  • Mmmmmm... Bacon tasty bacon

  • It would have been really cool if the Borg showed up and assimilated everyone.... The End.

  • When the Klingons come in, that was the best moment in DS9!

  • That was suicide! Just look at how badly those Federation ships got owned!

  • One has to wonder with spaceships even need to get close to fire a laser, which is just light... !

  • "It must've been pure hell being inside of a starship that was flipping around after being hit!"

  • Netflix sucks! It doesn't have any Star Trek series on Instant Queue!

  • @starflame34 It does now, actually.

  • @aventine62 yeah, actually figured that out my-self couple days ago, but thanks anyways.

  • wait are those miranda class ships they're using too? aren't they pretty old?

  • i swear the Bird of Prey that explodes at 1:29 was hit by friendly fire!

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER it was lol :)

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER yeah you're right lol

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER probably an American at the helm! XD

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER Klingons: Shooting first and asking questions later since 2154.

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER me too

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER Youre right! it was hit by ANOTHER BOP!

  • At 1:22, A Klingon Vorcha cruiser partially passed THROUGH a Cardassian ship..I think the CGI dept probably got a little confused with so many ships in the shot at once..

  • @Quisquellano26 well its hard to tell

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER It probibly was. Think about it. Someone tried to simulate a bar room brawl with this firefight.

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER The weapons computer malfunctioned.

    Oops.

  • @BMWM3GTRLOVER hahahah imagine what the captain is saying to the gunner on that ship!!!

  • HELL Yeah Klingon Reinforcements!!!

  • awesome editing thanks for the post

  • 01:15 ENTER THE KLINGONS! Q'apla!!!

  • This just gets better with age. Compared to what budgets are for TV shows now and the sophistication of CGI today, they did a magnificent job back in the late 90s and still put a lot of today's shows to shame.

Time for some pining for the good ol' days methinks...

  • Nicely edited. It was a lot of fun to watch.

  • The NX-04 should be Referenced in Hindsight as the Reliant. That ship name was Smeared by Khan. Her name was Once Honorable.

Star Trek 12 should have a USS Reliant, NCC-1864 in it as a " Wink " to Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan" which really did in Fact Bring Star Trek back,Period.

  • 1:31 WTF! The klingon ship shot one of it's own!

  • @starflame34 You know what they say: Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.

  • @starflame34 Your right, I saw the Bird o Prey kill its counterpart there!

  • @starflame34 One of the Klingon Bird of Prey's crew thought for a second about retreating should the battle go poorly for them, so to prevent this dissent from contaminating the Empire, the dishonoured ship was destroyed so the crew would regain their honour and enter Sto'vo'kor.

  • I never saw this entire episode, so could someone tell me who exactly wins this? The Federation and its allies or the Cardassians?

  • Something tells me after the Dominion War the Federation began to invest a little bit more in military technology. They almost got their asses handed to them during this war.

  • Some starships dont need shields, there are some without shields that can take a nuke and survive.

  • this is fucking awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • The Defiant had bitchin firepower!

  • Starships DO have shields; it's just the stupid Dominion ships that can take down older ships like Mirandas and Excelsiors or smaller craft like the Defiant class ships or small attack fighters. Dominion ships are freakin' powerful and can easily get through old ships' shields!

  • @Romulan64 And if you notice, The Galaxy Class ships are pasting the Cardassians really hard - the same kind of Cardassian ships the Enterprise easily defeated in The Wounded, while those Galor class ships are having trouble taking down old Mirandas, and at 0:25 we can see one of the Federation fighters take a hit, but the explosion is a bit away, suggesting its shields took the blow, before a second blast blew it apart.

  • how many enterprises are there!?

  • @66D00ds At this point in the timeline, the Enterprise-D was already gone. The only Enterprise in this battle would be the Enterprise-E, if it's there at all (we don't see it in any of the footage). So, from what we see, there are no Enterprises.

  • so why the hell did starfleet mass-produce crsppy ships like the miranda when the war started?

  • @culiculi459 They didn't Just before the war started, they focused production completely on warship class designs, such as the akira, saber, & defiant classes, and halted production on galaxy & nebula class production. All of the Miranda, Excelsior, Galaxy, Nebula class ships were already in service in the fleet, and used to supplement the newer classes. Although extremely formidable, the Galaxy was no longer worth the "bang for the buck" thanks to wide spread kamikaze attacks by the Jemhadar

  • @culiculi459 - The Miranda class was built in the 23rd century...around the time of Kirk. And was a good design and became one of the few workhorses of the Federation. Thus when the war broke out, there were lots of them still around.

  • @dougeagle I remember using the Miranda in one of the Starfleet Academy games. A good ship if I say so myself.

  • Never seen this stuff, but, I'd guess on the shields that at least as far as technical reasons would be the shape of the fields might make it so that the ships cannot move as close to each other as they are here without bouncing off of each others shields. Also, by lowering shields, firepower and engines could get a bit of a power boost from the unused shield energy. Just a random guess though.

  • 0:41 FUCK YEAH Galaxy Class ownage!!!

  • @HelmutVillam - hell yeah...look behind the two shootin' up the Galor and you can see 1 rushing in and another back in behind the second Galaxy shooting as well. Awesome video :)

  • @HelmutVillam yea it was great to see that after the galaxy class ship was destroyed

  • @HelmutVillam WOOOOOO!!!!! My favorite ship of the line. Mmmm.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • All the of the sudden the Cardasian(sp) ships are as powerful as Federation Starships?

  • 90s sci-fi <3

  • My bet:

The writers / SFX guys watched some Babylon 5 and saw battles that looked nice, fast paced and chaotic...like you would expect a large-scale battle would be... so they came up with the Dominion's weaponry being capable of slicing through shields like they weren't even there.

Watch some of Star Trek's early battles, they're slow slugfests.

    Just my bet...

  • @KaneinEncanto The SFX guys WERE the same guys who did B5. Paramount poached them after Season 3 of B5 to work for them. Hence the Battles suddenly got more kinetic on and a vaster scale. BUT, and like Beyonce's rear it's a firm one, Star Trek never really had the same feel for tactics that B5 had. The B5 battles always made a lot more sense tactically then anything Trek ever managed to produce.

  • what the hell is a noob?

  • they cut the shields out when obama took office

  • The battles in DS9 were ruined by how easily the ships explode. It feels more like a starwars space-fighter battle than a clash between massive warships. I doubt starfleet would bother building massive ships with thousands of crew members if they exploded after 2 phaser hits.

  • @KrazyKommieKiller B5 always managed the best ship damage and destruction imo. It still has the crowning moment of space fights of the moment when mid fight for Babylon 5 it cut to show the Omega Destroyer 'Churchill' a mass of rent armour and fires. Back in the days where ships tended to explode it was a gut wrenching show of the potential of CGI.

  • WHERE WAS THEIR SHIELDS?? THE FEDERATION GOT ASS- RAPED JUS A LITTLE IF IT WERE'NT FOR THE KLINGONS SAVING THE DAY!!

  • YOU SHOULD OF CUT IN N OUT OF MAIN BATTLE SCENE , SHOWING MORE DIRECT DESTRUCTION OF STARSHIP WESSELES N ADD SOMR SLOW MOTION CLOSEUP EXPLOSIONS

  • i find it hilarious how only the defiant had their shields up but no one else did

  • @guitarhero849 That's because Warf was on the bridge of the Defiant.

  • THAT WAS THE SHIT!!!

  • @marshallk24 you suck you know, i want to see you make this battle make it happen with your computer im offended i like star trek

  • @ilikemyhamthankyou98 I WAS'NT SAYING ANYTHING BAD PERSONALLY I LIKE STAR TREK AND STAR WARS TOO BUT, I WATCHED THAT EPISODE OF D.S. NINE BACK IN 1998 THAT'S HOW OLD THIS EPISODE IS THATS WHY I SAID THAT WAS THE SHIT!! IT'S A GOOD EPISODE I SAY THE BEST EVER!! REAL TALK!!

  • Miranda class ships seem to have a history of getting owned by just about everything

  • Massive starships, now with the lifespan of a Tie-Fighter. What happend to Star Trek ?

  • The 2nd smallest ship in the entire fleet is the only one that didn't take damage, wtf!

  • How the Defiant got through all that carnage unharmed is beyond me.

  • @MrMcb1990 If you watched the episode they suffered a lot of internal damage getting through.

  • @eyeofbast Starfleet vessels, strong on the outside, weak on the inside even with such sleek, fast, streamlined ships like the USS Defiant.

  • never likeed DS 9 the space battles were too fake considering the range of the weapons...i think the special effects team had a contest on how many startships they could cram into a screen shot

  • Flying in formation in space = bad idea. Your movements become predictable and you become an easy target. Just fly one junk ship loaded with antimatter into the middle at warp 9 and collide with the centermost ship. Boom. No more enemy.

  • I know I can't be first person to notice this but wasn't there a point when ships could withstand more than two hits? I think defiant is only ship with shields.

  • Starfleet designers are terrible, why must we always have the warp engines be attached to pylons and then the hull? if the engines get shot off, the ship is screwed.

why not mount the engines on the hull like the defiant?

  • @CrypticWatcher Most of these ships were not designed for combat.

  • @MrCanadianComedian that's saying commercial aircraft can have their engines to fall off while military aircraft shouldn't

  • @CrypticWatcher Is it not easier to shoot the engine of a commercial aircraft than a military one?

  • @MrCanadianComedian it's definitely not, aircraft dont have armor like land vehicles, they are designed have a strong airframe while be as light as possible, so no armor plating(yet).

you're thinking of the advantages of military aircraft performance against a commercial aircraft, which doesnt involve into damage resistance by design.

  • @CrypticWatcher so right

  • @CrypticWatcher From what I've read most Federation Starfleet ships have their warp nacelles mounted on pylons to minimize the radiation danger to the crew. The Defiant class which is a new design has the nacelles moved in to the minimal safe distance but are more heavily shielded from the personnel areas of the ship.

  • they made this more a fighter craft battle then a naval battle like it should of been. Come to think of it, makes no sense not to use small fighter craft in a massive war like this.

  • I think the MIranda class is the redshirt of starfleet.

  • Why are there like 20 Enterprise D's?

  • @EliteAdmiral there galaxy class.. by that time they could make more of them..

  • @RemusRomulas I still woulda thought there would of been some differences lol.. Picard is like... wtf -.-

  • This is why I love star trek, and despise starwars

  • Klingons are just too awesome.

  • Maybe the dominion used special tech to drop other starships shields and use troops to attack the Feds.

  • Remember when starships used to have shields?

  • @obsidian179

They needed all power to fire the phasers

  • @obsidian179 all these ships do, even the little marquis fighters. idk why this wasn't shown in the battle. maybe because they wanted to show shit blowing up?

  • @obsidian179 If they had left the shields on then the Federation would actually have to have an intelligent tactical plan other than throw wave after wave of what should be useless attack fighters at the Cardassians in the hopes of getting them to stupidly move out of position. And if they left the shields on the battle would have taken days to finish. Can't fit that long of a battle into a single episode.

  • @obsidian179 iirc they said it would have taken too much time if they rendered shields for each ship

  • @obsidian179 the federation are playing with the Mythic Scull on ;)

  • @obsidian179 Pepperidge Farm remembers....

  • @obsidian179 only hero ships have shields lol

  • @obsidian179 I think everyone's shields went down pretty quick, with that much action going on

  • @obsidian179 "We can't repel firepower of that magnitude!"

  • @obsidian179 the dominion had the ability to pass the federations shields (im guesing others as well) so their attacks kept hitting the hull straight away and in the star trek uniform hulls werent much

  • @CymruAlteran Actually, they came up with a countermeasure with that very early on. If you are referring to why we don't see shields, according to the producers, it would simply be too expensive and difficult.

  • @obsidian179 I should think the Cardassian phasers have been significantly upgraded by the Dominion, allowing them to punch through shields more easily.

  • @obsidian179

its cause of the dominion weapons, they have to use different shields.

  • i know u r but wat am i

  • I you think about all the Star Trek spin offs that could be made, there is the early comand of Picard when he comanded the Stargazer, there is alot of history not told with the first Cardasian war, there is alot of history with the many years of Federation vs Klingon war, Star Trek Enterprise just started to touch on that before the plug got pulled.

  • @hinahanta Sounds too boring to me.

  • 0:31

  • star trek would fuck star wars up, wat a fucken x wing against a defiant class?

  • @roush26 idiot

  • @whitemanstand72 rite back at ya
