Metal is unique, it's the only genre of music that has many sub-genres, all incomparable. Everyone talks about this band being better than that band, to each his own. Sylosis is one of a kind just like all other metal bands. Although many bands play the same type of metal (progressive, speed metal, deathcore, etc), they all have their own way of doing it. They find a formula and work on it from there, and no 2 formulas are the same. That's what makes it unique.

Eh, the Rev was a decent drummer, overrated from what their fans think he's capable of. Not my cup of tea. They definitely did upgrade from a s2000 to a Ferrari when they had Portnoy however.

He wrote some of the best songs by Avenged. But yeah, Portnoy is of course a better drummer and the drumming on Nightmare was excellent.

I don't agree with you, i just hear metal, but different subgenres like Progressive Metal, Melodeath, Death Metal, Trash Metal, Speed Metal,(...) "Music" these days is about getting money and getting famous. The Beatles, Zepplin, Hendrix, Deep Purple they all did what they wanted to musically they all and they became famous and lasted a long time. The "artists" of today will not. Everyone is a one hit wonder, makes they're money and leaves the scene entirely.

Anytime I hear of a band that might sound interesting I look up said band on Wikipedia and go down the list of albums. After hearing of Trivium, I listened to Anthem, Shattering the Skies Above, Down from the Sky, Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation, Like Light to the Flies and the majority of the Ember To Inferno album. I just didn't hear anything great in them. I don't think they suck, I just simply don't like them

The guitar work is Thrashy, indeed, but that doesn't really make it Thrash Metal. Melodic Death Metal can have death growl, singing, AND screaming. Also, vocal fry is not limited to metalcore. even then, his screaming may even be a nasty false vocals or his own technique.

Just remember that Melodeath is extremely diverse.
