hey ther could someone help me out i have a question. if my tank is 50 gallon. is it ok to buy a heater meant for 100 gallon. because the price is kinda the same and i might upgrade my tank sometime?
@Tibialmario : first more Watt means you are paying more electricity, which is more expensive on the long run, second of all, using a more powerful heater means the water temp will reach the desired temperature faster, which is not good for the fish, the slower it is the better, and finally fast heating is one of the reasons you get hot and cold regions in your aquarium especially for bigger (wider) tanks, even if you ensure heater position is next to water flow. Bottom line, bad idea :)
@alyaj06 Actually I can attest that a Jager will do this, and if you look, the other one doesnt steam until the glass breaks and the water directly contacts the element.
Are they both the same wattage and were they both turned up to the same temp etc etc? Sold the cheaper variety for years and never had one come back if you tell the customers how to use one.
omg wahhh he totally is trying to screw us he must work for eheim wahhh, stfu, buy a cheap heater and kill your fish, or buy a good heater and keep them alive, if you cant spend the extra 5 dollars i hope your fish die.
i put in a comment what some do while installing a heater
but another best practice would be to not even switch it on for about a hour or so while submerged in the water so again the glass on the heater gets used to the temp of the water
then again start low and bit by bit go to the desired temp
there's no rush, when first starting up a new tank for tropical its gonna need to be on its first cycle for about a week or so before fish go in anyway
no i mean if you buy a heater and follow all the instructions you cant go wrong
what appeared to go wrong there was hot going in to cold water
when i personally would not crank the heater up full then put it in water
id put it on a low setting and gradually turn it up bit by bit till you reach the desired temperature, this way i believe you would be acclimatising the heater and the water together?
great heaters. I've got the older ebo-jager and the newer eheim jager which appear fairly similar, although some claim the older are better. Not sure.... anyway no prob with any of them and the oldest is 12 years old.
That's likely because the room temperature is 77.8F. Even with no heater, it would be impossible for it to get much colder than 77.8 unless you had AC on in your house =P
ive had reallyyyy cheap walmart heater(i cant really aford anyhting else so it'll have to do) ive had it for the past 2 years and nothing ever happened to it.... but that was cooll!!
yeah difference in quality you wont need...even if you let a cheap heater get hot dry you wont throw it in cold water anyone with a few working brain cells knows sudden change of temperature in glass and some metals will cause them to crack.
maybe better quality but i wouldnt spend 3 times the money i would on a reg heater just so i could do cold watter dipping tricks.
Except that you can pick up jager heaters cheaper than alot of brands of regualr heater.
I may be retarded, but I've broken two heaters during water changes when I've tugged the cable and it's come above the water line and heated up unoticed, so that it shatters. Loads of people have to buy new heaters just because the last one shattered.
I'm sure he knows that. He's trying to demonstrate the difference in quality of the glass used between and Eheim heater and a piece of shit heater. So chill dude.
Sprockets. Happy as a little girl.
Actually, the Jager I have has lasted the longest. Stealth Pro died on me, so did Aqueon and Visi Therm damn near cooked my fish.

@Tibialmario Unless you live in Canada :D and you room temperature is 10 degrees C less than what you want your tank to be.

this cant be true, if you look at the jager heater no steam came off of it, it probably wasn't even plugged in...

sengal279 10 months ago
it also has a safety shut-off, so it's not just the glass that makes the difference here.

I do believe you are supposed to turn the heater on... when submerged in water at desired level

So basically the more expensive heater is idiot proof?

trainkid12 2 years ago
the cheapo broke.
the jager is the long one.
eheim jagers are known for being rediculously long heaters.

why is every body talking about a chiller
crazybeavers155 2 years ago
thats bull crap... my jager cracked the second i started filling up my tank and forgot to unplug it...
Fishermoe14 2 years ago
Can heaters make the water cooler also?
quaqa88 2 years ago
No, there would not be any way of reducing temperature below what the room temperature is. You can buy chilling devices but they are expensive.
svtcontour 2 years ago
lol that wouldnt make it a heater really
ollieflp 2 years ago
Well apparently aquarium chillers can heat a tank also. So I guess you can't really call it a chiller can you.

does that make any sense at all to you?

i have a cheap heater and it cannot keep the water temperature BELOW 77.8F when set on the lowest setting, is it normal?

yes it was on, because when he was putting down the heaters, the both cables was moving
curak147 3 years ago
I think the Jagger heater has a sensor in it that automatically turns it off when it's out of the water.
FoamyFan35 3 years ago 2
wow !!
danipyro2 3 years ago
Did he even plug the Jager heater in? I didn't see any steam come off that one.
Colin475 3 years ago
yes it was plugged. you see the cables on the plugs? they both move wehen he putt the heater into the watter.
luno1989 3 years ago
Just because the plug was in the outlet doesn't mean it had power or was on
