Having been in Berlin last year, I share the views about this video and my fondness for Berlin with others.
But where are the people? Berlin has a small population compared with the capital cities of other great nations, but surely someone catches the train...sometimes.
I just came from Berlin. It's really great city and people are so kind and always ready for help..Everything was great,i'll come back to Berlin again for sure! I love Berlin.. <3
I loved your vid so much... So much fuckin nostalgia :(... I was in Kreuzberg for a month and a half with my girlfriend and it was by far the best time of my life... now that i am back in the states... it makes me wonder... what do I miss more... being with her or being in Berlin... hmmm tough one ;)... Fantastic video... Did you see that massive ass building that is like 10 stories tall near the tent shown at 2:21 (forgot)... its completely empty... freaky yet awesome... ICH LIEBE BERLIN!!
Excellent video and superb video quality - I can see a lot of work has gone into making it - The only problem is that I miss Berlin now but I suppose that's now all your fault now lol - Liked and favourited.
Hi I miss the OLD Berlin. I was 9 or 10 when I lived in DDR. Shame, its all new now. I remember I used to go by myself on the UBhan on various Trips. I'd spend all day in and out of UBhan. I lived in Birlin Mitte. Forgotten the German Lingo now. Life was SAFE for kids in the early 80s.
Good point, I was hopping on and off of them both but the S-Bahn is what I can consider a general overground urban railway that happens to go underground every now and again whilst the U-Bahn tends to primarily go under ground and utilises slightly older looking stock. Both S and U trains are yellow so it can be tricky to distinguish. The train seen at Olympia Stadion is an example S-Bahn having a more tram style appearance with full walk-through carriages.
In Germany S-Bahn (commuter train, rapit transit...) formally is a train. The U- bahn (metro, subway, tube) is a tram but seperated from traffic. The distances between stops are shorter and the U- bahn isn't as fast as S- bahn.
The "S-Bahn" and "U-Bahn" are different network. The only thing they share in Berlin is the fact that they are running an 1435mm rails ("heavy rail" gauge).
"S-Bahn" is run by Deutsche Bahn and it is a "heavy rail" system. The difference to other rolling stock from Deutsche Bahn is that S-Bahn-Trains in Berlin get their energy via a third rail.
he "U-Bahn" is a detached network only usable with "U-Bahn"-cars, getting their energy also via a third rail.
U-Bahn is a classical "metro" system, like the subway of new york or the metro in Paris.
S-Bahn can get you to suburbs, U-Bahn normally not. Stations in S-Bahn are farer away (besides the S-Bahn ring line).
S-Bahn-Trains in Berlin are colored red and yellow.
As long as you have a ticket valid for the zone in which you are travelling you may take U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Bus, Tramway as you want. It is up to you to find the fastest transit/connection. They share the same ticket price.
Historically, "S-Bahn" was run by the former GDR railway company ("Deutsche Reichsbahn"). People in West-Berlin did boycott the lines (which ran also in west berlin!) so BVG built many U-Bahn-lines in the West.
S-Bahn is comparable to "RER" in Brussels or Paris.
U-Bahn is comparable to "Métro" in Paris, "Subway" in New York and "Underground" in London.
Great stuff man- good choice of shots and picture quality is fucking mint. Going to berlin myself soon, and this has whet the appetite to a state of inelegant salivation.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, its nice to walk over the old border without papers! Shame that the wall is preserved only in tiny sections but its amazing how everything has been rebuilt and reconnected. Very modern city now.

What a great video - I loved my trip to Berlin (back in February 2008). That walk in/out of Olympia-Stadion was quite an eerie one.
Would love to go back to Berlin one day.

Well, I can see Berlin is very organized (at least in this video)...
The Brandenburger Tor is so important to Berlin, like Big Ben is for London... because of this, there always have lots and lots of tourists...
Greetings form London, UK...
