@MightyRoos i agree that the soviet boycott did remove the big names (Taranenko), but that doesn't detract from what Lukin did. He had the gold medal on the line and he made the lift. That's what weightlifting is all about.
@SCHOFFY7007 Anatoly Pisarenko in the USSR selections pressed 265kg in '84, as far as weightlifting was concerned the soviets where in another galaxy.
@wondeboy12 not pressed also he never got tested in varna 84, later that year he got busted foor drugs imports in montreal canada with kurlovich, and the soviet federation banned them both for 2 years
Im not a weight lifter at all and when i saw Lukin do the final stage of that lift i felt each of my Bollocks shoot down my inside legs to my ankles, and across the street to a bus stop

Dean Lukin is such a bad poster boy for weightlifting ha! Pear shaped, no upper body, weak chin... I like the other dude's beard

Это была олимпиада МЕШКОВ без советских атлетов. 412,5 в супертяжах - позорище :-)))))

A great moment for Australian weightlifting, however the Soviet led boycvott did take away the main competition.

A great moment in Australian Olympic history.
Always interesting to hear commentary from outside my home country.
