  • Great tone, the tyranny with that pre is doing a great job, i will be ordering a Lundahl & a Cinamag to upgrade some ribbons, an astonishing stock passive ribbon i have found is from a company we just got mic's from Recording Tools Germany (Oktava) MRP-01 the transparency is shocking, I am literally in love... with the sound of the MRP-01, i do like the duel short passive Cad on Metal... Hope to do a shoot out on these... soon.

  • any lag w te protools btw, just offhand?

  • wana learn those chord progressions youre playing there. the mic picked up everythiing i mean stuff woulnt have expected like the slight pop whit the pickup selector.

  • Great guitar riffs.

  • greg, how gain hungry is this mic? i plan on using it with an Apogee Duet for mobile recording at my rehearsal space but i don't know if i will require a beefier preamp to run this microphone.

  • @sehnsucht77 I think it's pretty standard for gain. Not sure of the amount of dB gain in the Duet though. Perhaps check with Cascade and get their thoughts.

  • You sold me bro!

  • This mic/amp rig is really similar to what Buddy Miller has been using with Robert Plant. Really beautiful tones and playing, as always! Thanks for the demo!

  • @mheldo Thanks very much! I love Buddy Miller, he's incredible!!!!!

  • Very nice playing as well! feel free to post some original work, I will be keeping an ear out for you.

  • @Bafre4 Thanks!

  • How much difference is there between the Stock Fathead and the one with the Lundahl transformer? Trying to compare this mic with a Audio Technica AT4040 condenser mic?

  • @hawg427 I've never compared the two mics. Perhaps contact Cascade for more details.

  • killer sound, would like to get one of these for myself <3

  • I'm trying to decide between the "Stock" Fathead and the AT-4040 condenser mic for recording my Martin Hd-28 acoustic and also my electric guitar via 2x12, 4x12 cabs.

Can I have your 2 cents? One thing that scares me is that they say Ribbon mics are so delicate.

  • @hawg427 Sorry I've never compared the two mics. In genral, ribbons are more delicate but it's more the warm rich tone they offer IMO.

  • @freeblade99 I second that.

  • @freeblade99 Thank you, glad you like the demo. Sure a nice channel strip can be beneficial to all tracks being recorded by preventing "sonic haze" from building up in the mix. However IMO, a great mic-pre doesn't make an "average" mic (or any average sound source) sound amazing, but rather just gives a more defined and detailed sonic capture of the average source. Royers are great certainly but I love these Cascades.

  • @GregVmusic (Oups, deleted my first comment by mistake !!! damn...)

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going for a Cascade, sounds amazing, I was wondering whether an Apogee Duet 2 for example would do the job as a good mic-pre for this one...

  • killer sound dude. great demo

  • @bradleyjgreen1 Thank you.

  • Austin Powers?

sounds amazing! mine is in the mail

  • Hey I just picked one of these up and I am a little concerned about the mic placement, SPL's etc... When using it on my beefy JCM800 half stack, how far, on-off cone, and how loud should I be cranked?

    Thanks a ton! Great vid!

  • Great demo man.. Loved the tele's tone.. =)

  • Ribbons are truth serum and this man has tone... love the natural sound of Ribbons... Thanks my ears are happy.... AudioHipster Analog Recording

  • Nice gear, songs and sound. Loved the nocaster.

  • I really love my Fathead II's!!!!

  • Sounds great

  • any efect? or comp

  • @javitin22 No effects added, the reverb and tremolo is from the amp, see discription for details.

  • @GregVmusic Thanks!

  • Greg, you are a heckof a good musician, and riffmeister. Your time feel is immaculate.

    Rob Jaso

  • @IMAWriterRobJ Thank you very much!

  • sick tone. im getting one now.

  • sitting right beside the amp and mic, doesn't picking guitar get picked up or bleed in as well?

  • @SunnyCool No, the amp is louder than the guitars acoustic sound.

  • does this mic have stock transformers or the Lundahl transformer?

  • @xscaryx oops... haha, it says its the Lundahl... i should read before i ask.

  • Whats the name of that rockin' song at 2:14 ?

  • @BlisterOnTheMoon It's my own song, as are 98% of the riffs in my demo videos. Thanks

  • Man I want one!

  • great playing and very beautiful mic! you should make a comparison with other mics

  • Oh, and whar were the names of songs you played?

  • Celestion G12H30 Anniversary

  • question: Does this mic pick up sound only from close range? Or can you also hear distan noise?

  • Both, you can use it for close or room micing.

  • I was always looking for SM57, But than i realised, its to thin sounding!! I'm going for FATHEAD!

  • Fine Playing!

  • Thank you!

  • Greg,

I'm glad the SG is making an appearance more these days!

    Mike

  • is it good for live playing?

  • I've only used the Cascade Fat Head II in the studio and love it. I'm sure you could use it live with a small ensemble but be aware it's a figure-8 pattern so may not be the most appropriate choice for isolation.

  • EXCELLENT PLAYING GREG

  • Thanks!

  • Sounds really nice!!! How does stand upp to a Royer 121?

I´m buying a ribbon mike but havent decided on what to buy yet.

I love your album btw! REALLY good stuff!!!

    Kindest regards.

    /Andreas

  • Glad you dig my CD, thanks! I've never compared the Cascade Fat Head II to the Royer 121. I think you'll find both mics are highly rated.

  • Sick bro! Dig it.

  • Thanks

  • Sounds great Greg, very rich but it doesn't get as blurry as I thought it might. The mic would seem to have a very nice price/performance thing going on.

  • Thanks!, I'm digging the mic a lot and will use it on many sessions.
