I know a guy a few years younger than me, all he dreamed of was being a Navy Seal, and when he graduated high school, he joined Navy, did buds, became a seal went to Iraq in the first war and came back screwed mentally. Reality is he should not have been allowed to become one. The Navy retired him, to Coronado under military care, because they couldn't let him return to civilian life. Too damn dangerous. It does happen,

Although I won't be specific about when, as I understand it is actually common but usually unspoken. This fellow took out a security guard on the base, took his weapon and killed himself. Sad, but he did everybody a favor by protecting them from himself.

I got into a fist fight with this guy once. He's no battle hardened SEAL. He was just out of SQT. The Navy kicked him out with a general discharge and he only got 60 days in jail and 3 years probation for assault. They came to a nightclub where I was working and spent the whole night getting into fights. After we closed they all went outside and started picking more fights. They bashed in some drunk soldier's head with a brick. Then they high-tailed it to wherever they were staying and had to leave quickly because the whole 101st Airborne wanted to kill them.
