Islam is basically WWMD. What Would MoHamMad Do. I don't know why we look for moderates or any type of "progressive" muslims when just asking WWMD will give exactly what islam is. The problem with radicalism is there is not equally strong grass root movement from Muslims that support enlightenment values that transformed western society. The anti-western, anti-semitic propaganda is so prolific through out the middle east that the region is become more sympathetic to jihad movement every year. Some of the speakers here are indeed saying the bin-Ladens speak for all Muslims. That is the whole question posed by the debate: "Islam is dominated by radicals."

As for "doing with" radicals--is it every Christian's fault when some fanatic burns down a clinic? Do we blame all Christians for Josef Koni's LRA? No. But we do blame ALL Muslims for what ANY Muslim does.

No, you are wilfully misunderstanding. The clue is in the title. They are asking if Islam is 'dominated' by such activity. I have heard no commentator suggest that ALL Muslims are extreme.

Your clinic example is fine. If commentators described the burning as a holy prerogative I would not assume for a moment that that would encompass all Christians.

But when all terrorists call it Jihad, why whine at these people for using the same term. The meaning has shifted.

Bin-Laden's use of the term deos not come from the Koran, but from a book written by his late teacher, Abdullah Azzam. The book is called In Defense of Muslim Lands and can be read online. In it, Azzam argued for an internationalist paramilitary struggle. This use of "jihad" is a modern invention.
