I think Griffey is thinking about playing one more year. I asked him at a hotel here in Detroit for an autograph, and he said no. Then I said it's my last chance. Griffey replied " why is that, I don't even know yet". Griffey is such an ass in person-
Buddy, he is not an ass. He is under contract to only sign for certain companies. He gets asked all the time and is likely sick of it and sick of explaining why he can't. Don't be a hater. You wouldn't like being bugged everywhere you went either.
Beacause Lets say your name is: Matt Ken. and you go to japan Theyd call you Ken Matt. With Ichiro his last name is suzuki. And in japan his last name would be Ichiro.
That's not correct. The names are opposite in China, not Japan. Ichiro is his first name. Look at any other Japanese player- Iwamura, Fukudome, Matsui, Matsuzaka. Those are their last names. I don't know why Ichiro uses his first. Yao Ming is from china, so his name is reversed. His last name, Yao, is on the back of his jersey.
no, because they said something about a curse in japan so that's why they his name ichiro witout his last name thats wat i read in a boo hhsjajhhjkgjkhhjjh
Because Suzuki is the second most common name in japan so while Ichiro was playing in japan they wanted to have his name be better known as the baseball player
out of all the replies only amandagrace420's and dutchman35's answers are correct ichiro's hitting coach suggested him to put Ichiro instead of Suzuki because of it being a common name and even though Ichiro thought it was weird he soon got used to it
From what rumor has it, Ichiro's last name "Suzuki" is like the third most common last name, and I guess he didn't like that on the back of his jersey, so he asked the Japanese commissioner if he can have his first name on the jersey. I guess it's possible because Mariano Rivera went to the commissioner asking if he can wear the retired number 42. If that's possible, Ichiro's case is a piece of cake.
Pretty ironic. It was Griffey who put baseball on the map in Seattle when the Mariners were a joke franchise that was drowning in its own futility. Now, he returns when the franchise is at its lowest point since those days. Should be interesting to see what kind of impact he will have.

Rivera can wear number 42 because it was his number before MLB retired it
