@shanir97 Yoshinkan is the most structured of all the Aikido styles. It pays strict attention to form and is able to teach all the basics much more quickly than the other styles. Also, all the techniques are taught to demonstrate intent. This last element is largely missing from other other aikido styles until a very high level and even then it is de-emphasised. This is why Yoshinkan is the Aikido taught to Japanese (riot) police and also portrayed in the famous book "Angry White Pyjamas".
@shanir97 Also, you are incorrect as to state that O-Sensei's style was much "rounder" and "softer". O-Sensei had different pupils at different times of his life and in addition each of his main pupils emphasised different elements from his comprehensive teachings. You can compare O-Sensei in old vids and then literally see his pupils (the oldest teachers of the many different styles) taking the different emphasis, e.g. Aikido Journal has some excellent old videos: watch?v=fCrAu8Zya_w
true yoshinkan, very solid structure, very militaristic, Takeno sensei is very good almost looks like Gozo Shioda except Shioda is a little more active in kamae, almost perfect control. beautiful
You get that danger in all Martial Arts - But yes some Like Shaolin or Aikido seem to step above most others when it comes to risk involved even during training
actually one of the yoshinkan teacher broked one of the nage's arm he was performing with. the nage was a uchi deshi, goes to show how dangerous it still can be under a controlled environment.
the people you call nage are actually uke. I think all styles calls the attacker uke. But for the defender it differs. Yoshinkan calls them "Shite" and Iwama calls them "nage" and aikikai calls them "tori". maybe there are more names in other styles, but these are the ones i know.
I don't understand what people are finding in Yoshinkan except pain as seen from this video.
Aikido was invented by Osensei and his way was much rounder and softer.
Had he wanted a military style , Aikido would be as such. But he believed in peace and harmony and Yoshinkan doesn't look so.
Why does he have to slam the Uke's so hard? He could do it much softer and yet with the same effect
