Okay people need to realize Kelly has had 3 years on Carrie so no duh she's gonna have more albums sold. They're both extremely talented.. But Carrie is an amazing singer, prettier, can hold 25 second notes, belt a note out of nowhere, writes the best songs, and is a better entertainer... Kelly is just an amazing singer

@vavs5 Carrie is a great performer but Kelly is the way better entertainer. Kelly proved that at the iHeart Radio Festival in September. Kelly pours in more emotion which is one of the reasons she is the better entertainer. Carrie writes some great songs but the songs Kelly writes are a way better like 'Walk Away", "Hazel Eyes", "Because of You' (a song Kelly wrote when she was 16), "Already Gone", etc. Kelly belts notes better than Carrie too, Kelly has the better range.
Carrie can belt up to G5, while Kelly can belt up to B5/C6.
Kelly has a much better technique than Carrie, who tends to get strained/nasally and also, Kelly's natural tone/instrument is far prettier than Carrie's.
Carrie is a great singer, one of the best of the generation, but Kelly IS the best of the generation. Kelly wins by far.

Based on this video I'd vote Carrie, but based on what I've seen from both of them over the years, I vote Kelly. Kelly can reach higher notes in her chest voice and to me she just has more vocal talent. Carrie doesn't measure up to Kelly's range, tone, and versatility. But they are by far the best 2 idol winners by a long shot.
if you exclude album and singles sales- the more talented vocalist is kelly clarkson and carrie underwood doesn't stack up against kelly
- carrie's voice is only really suitable for country songs whereas kelly can sing rock, pop, country, soul, jazz, r&b, and her voice is just so much more versatile's than carries
- also kelly's voice is just stronger
- people only say that carrie underwood is better because shes sold more albums but kelly is still the TRUE american idol

For some reason, Carrie's voice is just one dimensional.. Not flexible and agile like Carrie.. Kelly's voice is just more natural.. and her tone is so much more pleasing to listen to
I think Kelly wins just by the fact that she was sick throughout Idol. So the fact that it's a close call on a healthy Carrie and a sick Kelly proves Kelly wins. Plus Kelly can go way higher for way longer in post-idol performances.
BUT I do love them both. I hate country, but when Carrie sings it i like it, because she is amazing.

Kelly is better..... but the natural voice Carrie is born with, it's very beautiful and feminine which makes her singing beautiful and perfect for country. but Kelly is better... though the natural voice she is born with is not as beautiful and feminine as Carrie but her vocals are sooo great. that's what made her successful.... over all... these two are one of the best american idols... :)

I don't think, Kelly sings a F5 in "You're all I need" but a G5, like another vocal-showcase-video says. I can reach F#5 but not this one, so it's higher and sounds more than a G5.

Kelly has a much better C#5 in I Surrender and Think Twice, also in Think Twice there's a far better Eb5 and why didn't you cut Carries D5 from the clip as you did with Kelly's C#5 - F#5? Kelly also had far better E5s from It's raining men and don't get me started on the F5. You also reduced quite a lot of Kelly's clips to just the notes while with carrie you posted pre and post runs.

Carrie Underwood will forever remain the better singer. Her management is yet to start promoting her overseas, and THAT accounts for her smaller international presence. Despite that, she has fans all over the world, in India, Brazil, Venezuela, Hungary, UK, AUstralia, and in Dubai (me!). That is despite the fact that she sings country, which has a very small presence outside of the states. Most notably, she has sold more albums in the US, DESPITE HAVING RELEASED FEWER ALBUMS THAN KELLY

Kelly is way more successful than Carrie worldwide. Carrie has sold 16 million albums, Kelly has sold 23million. Carrie might have won more awards but it is more easy to win in country than it is in pop. Kelly is also known to be one of the best singers of the decade and is compared to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion etc. So I think there is no competition between them both

Carrie's voice is more stable with more melodic tone to it..She holds the notes better..Slurs are way better than kelly.In respective of breathing, a very important skill in singing, Carrie surpasses Kelly by a mile..... They often say Carrie is loud but after listening to many kellys live vids ..well the word loud easily fits Kelly more.. in versatility, both has their skills in different genres, for kelly, pop, rock, punk rock, blues, soul n a bit of rnb..but sining country is not her thing..

Yes, I know Carrie sang at the Michael Jackson tribute last yr but she still sounded country, haven't heard her sing w/Tony Bennett, I have heard her sing rock it is good but Kelly is way better at rock than Carrie. Listen to Kelly sing "It's Alright With Me" or Tony's "Because of You" from his 80th birthday party from 2006 & the girl is just flawless at singing big band. The only other singer from today who could off big band is Christina Aguilera, though KC is better at singing big band.
Well Kelly is not going country she herself said she will probably not go country yes, even though she has done a duet with Reba and now Jason Aldean. But is she was or did country no one knows if she would have or not have the awards Carrie has but big deal, who cares. if you exclude album and singles sales- the more talented vocalist is kelly clarkson and carrie underwood doesn't stack up against kelly
- carrie's voice is only really suitable for country songs whereas kelly can sing rock, pop, country, soul, jazz, r&b, and her voice is just so much more versatile's than carries
- also kelly's voice is just stronger
- people only say that carrie underwood is better because shes sold more albums but kelly is still the TRUE american idol

I think Kelly wins just by the fact that she was sick throughout Idol. So the fact that it's a close call on a healthy Carrie and a sick Kelly proves Kelly wins. Plus Kelly can go way higher for way longer in post-idol performances.
BUT I do love them both. I hate country, but when Carrie sings it i like it, because she is amazing.

Kelly is better..... but the natural voice Carrie is born with, it's very beautiful and feminine which makes her singing beautiful and perfect for country. but Kelly is better... though the natural voice she is born with is not as beautiful and feminine as Carrie but her vocals are sooo great. that's what made her successful.... over all... these two are one of the best american idols... :)

I don't think, Kelly sings a F5 in "You're all I need" but a G5, like another vocal-showcase-video says. I can reach F#5 but not this one, so it's higher and sounds more than a G5.

Wow, I never realized how effortlessly Kelly hits so many crazy notes that (while she can hit them perfectly) Carrie & other good singers have to strain a bit for. Dang, both of these girls can SING! But yes, this comparison makes it clear to me at least--Kelly is the superior singer. But that doesn't mean Carrie isn't great too--just that Kelly is INSANELY good!

Kelly has a much better C#5 in I Surrender and Think Twice, also in Think Twice there's a far better Eb5 and why didn't you cut Carries D5 from the clip as you did with Kelly's C#5 - F#5? Kelly also had far better E5s from It's raining men and don't get me started on the F5. You also reduced quite a lot of Kelly's clips to just the notes while with carrie you posted pre and post runs.

I didn't crop Carrie's D5 because it was part of the belt lol. I cut Kelly's C#5 because it wasn't. I didn't have access to all of Kelly's performances so I couldn't simply.

Carrie Underwood will forever remain the better singer. Her management is yet to start promoting her overseas, and THAT accounts for her smaller international presence. Despite that, she has fans all over the world, in India, Brazil, Venezuela, Hungary, UK, AUstralia, and in Dubai (me!). That is despite the fact that she sings country, which has a very small presence outside of the states. Most notably, she has sold more albums in the US, DESPITE HAVING RELEASED FEWER ALBUMS THAN KELLY

Kelly is way more successful than Carrie worldwide. Carrie has sold 16 million albums, Kelly has sold 23million. Carrie might have won more awards but it is more easy to win in country than it is in pop. Kelly is also known to be one of the best singers of the decade and is compared to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion etc. So I think there is no competition between them both

Carrie's voice is more stable with more melodic tone to it..She holds the notes better..Slurs are way better than kelly.In respective of breathing, a very important skill in singing, Carrie surpasses Kelly by a mile..... They often say Carrie is loud but after listening to many kellys live vids ..well the word loud easily fits Kelly more.. in versatility, both has their skills in different genres, for kelly, pop, rock, punk rock, blues, soul n a bit of rnb..but sining country is not her thing..

Kelly's voice is unstable but not pitchy which cannot be termed as vibrato...the way she sings the slurs are not smooth ... cos slurs should be smooth
I have had seen lotz of Kelly's live performance....obviously she is good that is the reason why she won AI... but after idol....her performance are not steller anymore but still good vocally....she strains her voice too much where she cant even belt out the song (that was Since youve been gone). sorry KC fans *_*

Yes, I know Carrie sang at the Michael Jackson tribute last yr but she still sounded country, haven't heard her sing w/Tony Bennett, I have heard her sing rock it is good but Kelly is way better at rock than Carrie. Listen to Kelly sing "It's Alright With Me" or Tony's "Because of You" from his 80th birthday party from 2006 & the girl is just flawless at singing big band. The only other singer from today who could off big band is Christina Aguilera, though KC is better at singing big band.

Well Kelly is not going country she herself said she will probably not go country yes, even though she has done a duet with Reba and now Jason Aldean. But is she was or did country no one knows if she would have or not have the awards Carrie has but big deal, who cares. To me & others Carrie still has that country twang when she "tries" to sing other genre. There is no one in the music industry who can pull off rock, pop, country, r&b, and big bad like Kelly does.

I love both of them but saying that Carrie is only famous in the US is just WRONG!!!! She has loads of fans in many countries, not just America!!!! & I don't see how Carrie is stuck in 1 genre, she chose that type of music & sings her heart out for it. To me they're the best American idols ever; & I think anyone who's comparing them is wasting their time. On these performances...Carrie is belting these notes wayyyyy longer then Kelly in any of these songs, with better control. Also, Carrie was singing elvis, 80's rock(heart alone), country, Classic pop (making love outta nothing at all), Pat Bentar etc.. Carrie can sing any genra she sings country now cause she is but her country also translates to country pop. Carries sales and awards are proving a lot.

In my opinion, both sing amazing. To really compare them they would have to sing the same song and listen very carefully, but I wouldn't compare them, I think both are really talented and both are great.. If they did a duet, I'd die of happiness :)

both are awesome definetely! the are really great in everything they do but carrie has kind of a limited voice because it was naturally build for country music! in my opinion, carrie would never be able to sing a pop song like kelly, and kelly would never be able to sing a country music like carrie!

@iPHANN Did you watch Kelly perform at the CMA's last week because she proved that she has NOT gotten worse, she has only gotten better. People say she was the best singer that night. If you didn't see it, watch it now. The girl only keeps on getting better. :)

i am a fan of both these artists, but a huge fan of kelly because of her voice, i likw carrie for her music! so, i aint biased when i say kelly is a much better singer, even though i am much more of a kelly fan

There's no denying Carrie is a great vocalist but just go to a Kelly Clarkson concert and all the different styles of songs you hear her sing proves she's better. :)

Kelly is great, but Carrie is a better vocalist. Have you seen this girl sing "Alone" by Heart in concert? Once you see that, then come back and tell me Kelly is better.
