Thank you David. I will have to stay with my Lie Nielsen planes though. I never could get along with wooden planes; not even a simple smoother I made. I like the studied way in which you approach your work; which, I'm sure you agree, has much to do with the quality of woodworking for anyone. Thanks again.
David your book is great i recently perchased it and read the thing in a couple of hours after making notes i bagan making a plane, quick question, i do not have one solid piece of wood and decided not to for my first one, would glueing piesces together make a big difference in how the plane works? my screen name is bigyoda12 please right back thank you
While I was ill, I had the opportunity to host a master joiner in my workshop (which I had built for using power tools to work wood.) During the two years he was here I saw him make very fine traditional furniture using just wood planes, etc. Now you have opened yet another door. I will make the traditional clock cases to hold my hand -built movements with hand-built planes.
David, you are truly a "class act". We are very fortunate to have such a skilled craftsman such as yourself be willing to share your skills with us. Thank you very much. Additionally, your new improved website is great. Keep up the phenomenal work!

Sounds like you are referring to a plow or rabbet plane. My book does not cover these.

@bigyoda12 A laminated plane works just fine -- the glued up block of wood is potentially even more stable. Have fun!

excellent video David. Your book and iron are great! The plane I made with it works flawlessly.

First time I see a demo done the way I learned it: planes are stored on their side, not on the blade. Most probably it does not matter.
