where's PFIdude and PFIdad? Lol, j/k, i really need some land to do all this runnin and gun'n.. Not much county/state property to shoot on, ironically, in Texas.
@CavemanCoochie cammo has it's place in SHTF. Attacking from the tree lines in your area or setting up defensive positions in the brush in your area. Also, for the most part they make awsome combat/training attire because they are durable, loose fitting and comfortable. When there is no rule of law and your neigborhood is counting on a rifleman fire team to protect them, it really wont matter if your wearing multi-cam or blue jeans, but cammo does give you an edge....
i got to tell u man iam in the corps with the infantry and i really look forward to doing my own rig after i get done with service with my training and accessible gear i can purchase and your vids help out alot.
Great video as usual, but I have to disagree with one thing you answered to a question. I have one of the Plum Crazy polymer lowers. I love it. Two of my friends each bought one after seeing mine and then another on a rifle I put together for a co worker. We shoot like you do, often and realisticly. I admit we have not shot the polymer lowers as much since they are the newest we own, but they seem to be high quality lowers.
the first thing a person needs to do in terms of self defense is been physically fit, i hope nobody feels offend it by this comment, that is not my intention, if one is to carry all that gear you must be
at some level physically conditioned to endure long hours of combat, in a real life scenario with real moving targets, just a thought . ------ seal tor squad second to none------

I see you running the Acog! Sweet!

@jamgabem Most of the Mil-Spec AR's on the Market are decent quality. I've had Bushmaster rifles for over 20 years and never had an issue. Stay clear of the Polymer lowers. You can add all the bells and whistles later. I would recommend the Leatherwood CMR 1-4x Lighted reticle scope. It's very reasonable and performs like a champ. Thanks Bro~

I am getting my range configured for some run n guns as well! After watching nutnfancy I figured it be the best way to train to become accustomed and proficient with my firearms and gear. But like another guy said, at around 4:40 my heart skipped a beat. That was possibly the worst way to reholster! He's definately got to work on that!! Practice Practice PRACTICE! Great Vid!

great video mr sootch... cant wait to see those sling videos ... ive been looking all over YouTube for that kind of info...particularly the 1 point sling. in my mind i feel it would be a great sling.but is it really.(pros and cons).
Yes I saw that too but not sure if off hand is the answer, when approaching a barricade if they are shooting from the right side, they should place their right foot at the barricade and lean out to the right, the keeps a really high percentage of the body behind the barricade and only exposes the a little bit of the on the top. This is how we do it on our quarterly shooting qual...it works very well.
Great vid scotch your team looks like they could use more cardiac PT training.
just kidding... You all look like you have great shooting skills and tactics. Most of us are no navy seals, having a plan and knowing your team will go a long way.
@sootch00 Hey Don, in your neck of the woods (Carolina's) can you just run-n-gun on public land ? i was wondering what the regs were in Georgia, or if any one knew ? I have a few people interested in setting up a RNG.
@georgiacatweazle You have a legal obligation to know your own state laws. Doing this stuff on public land may get you into serious legal trouble and of course give the anti-gun people more "ammo" to paint all gun owners as irresponsible. Don't just copy what you see these youtube channels do. One thing to remember, Sootch is doing this on private property in a controlled environment. You start shooting it up on state land, and if a stray bullet kills somebody, now what? Think carefully.
Please do "check your holster system". At 4:44, that fellow is close to putting a round through his own hand as he re-holsters, safety off, with his support hand over the muzzle opening if his Serpa. That is just all wrong.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with muzzling yourself, only muzzling others.
You can be as safety friendly as you want, but the number one important thing is making sure you don't hurt someone else. My guns don't scare me, nor do most guns in general, regardless how the gun its self muzzles me, as long as there's nobody behind the gun. Kind of like where your gun points at yourself when it's in a holster.
@skyhop Really? Wow! I think the vast majority of gun-savvy folks would recommend against pointing a loaded gun at your own hand. Lots of AD's happen on reholstering. The guy in the video appears to still be getting the feel of his gear, which is fine. But that is not a good way to re-holster and the soon he straightens that out, the better for everyone.
2nd - A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State (not the corporate STATE), the right of the people to keep and bear Arms (any type, any size, any amount), shall not be infringed.
NO RIGHT CAN BE REGULATED, EXCEPT BY YOUR CONSENT AND IGNORANCE.
Funny how as soon as you mention using cover the guy shoots besides cover instead of shooting support side and using cover. It's gotta be good to have a close group of shooting buddies to train with. Love the video.
i love seeing the big man go prone!it`s normally very hard for them, but he makes it look easy!looks like lot`s of fun!good for you guys getting in practice time!
Good going. It's good to see other ordinary citizens doing run-n-gun's, and not being needlessly intimidated and just leaving this kind of thing to the Nunfancy's of the world. Both you and Nutn preach that we should all be doing these drills to be prepared. If you need the skills down the line, you'll have them, and if not, you'll have had fun of doing it plus you'll have those tools in your toolbox. Thanks again, Sootch. Keep up the faith.
I think that it would be a lot different if the targets were shooting back at you... Nice to see that you are training in a make believe world!! The true test is if you can use your skills under pressure and not no weekend warrior. But this is going to be the best training you can get as a civilian I suppose.. I think that under stress a lot of people will act differently
@eightgeorge You live in the UK and have 0 right to defend yourself with any firearm. Nor can you own any of the firearms you see in this video. Sucks to be you with zero rights and subjected to the whims of your govt and any criminal who attacks you with deadly force. Here in the US there's plenty of training available, especially for the law-abiding civilian gun owner. Here's one of the best training academies in country, you have nothing like this → w w w . sigsaueracademy . com /Courses/
Nice! It's great to see someone other than fancy doing run n guns. I like him, I'm just saying it's nice for a change. Now do some gear reviews after you have run them and you will be complete.

I'm not implying that what you're doing is meaningless or of no purpose, but I think anybody serious about self defense training would seek instruction from a professional. I don't think these "runs and guns" are a substitute for that.
@esh325 That's the mistake many make as you correctly point out. A "run & gun" was once upon a time simply a form of competitive practical shooting - like "3 gun". Run & guns are not purely tactical or self-defense shooting, and those who think that they are, are mistaken. They're especially not an ample substitute for getting professional training. People who think that they're qualified when they're really not can get you or someone else killed in real self-defense situation.
@esh325 You are correct, these outings are not a substitute for training, they are to practice the drills learned in the classes, and augment them. I use 3 gun to help maintain these skills, have fun with a bunch of like minded guys, work on new gear mods, and make sure my firearms run as intended, as another venue. Be safe! John
Look to Daniel Morgan, Francis Marion, George Rogers Clarke, and Thomas Sumter to see who the real citizen soldiers of the American Revolution are...real ordinary men, what we would call "middle" class today (avoid those terms there are no classes in America...never forget Washington didn't rebel against George III to become George I). Keep it up Sootch long live the Constitutional Republic.
@2xEKIA lol sarcasm or serious? I dabble in all kinds of security work ("high rollers"/celebs, nuclear power plants) and have also been asked to possibly do some mercenary work. Don't know how I feel about that though.
minuteman.. always remembers me of this one donald duck... (i know really childish)
cause in that donald duck it was minuteman, because they could be there, and the other minute they were off to work on the land, that was what it came to atleast.
i know thats not true but thought it was funny back then.
I'm not going to say that it doesn't help you shoot with your heart rate high, but there is no "Self-Defense" situation where you just run like commando and shoot like one.
You have a great concept here. I do understand y'all are learning, but once you get more fluid with your motions, start incorporating more unorthodox positions and situations instead of the same old stand there and shoot (in an instance where bullets are flying back at you, you won't be standing there! lol). Get uncomfortable. But none the less, great job at getting out there to practice!
There are some important caveats about this type of shooting. 1) seek professional training (classes / courses) from reputable sources before you attempt to play "operator". 2) Practice often. That can be difficult because most civilian ranges / shooting clubs don't allow this type of shooting. 3) If you're lucky enough to live in rural area with your own personal property or state land to use, take the extra precaution and build / use good earth backstops for your courses.
Americans beating the British in the Revolutionary war was incredible. Being able to defeat the strongest military force in the world with a rag tag army.
@bil609 I think you are going to have to do it via a class or something to that effect. Search for tactical training in SoFla -- I think some will use ranges in the Clewiston area. Tactical Academy maybe? Not sure -- go try to network via the forums on floridaconcealedcarry
Great video Sootch. Learning this stuff is great! I help run a range at work (Coast Guard) and the part that fails a lot of shooters is unfamiliarity with their gear/setup (Not practicing or not very practical setup) and barricades. A lot of people hang up on barricades. And like i tell em... come down to the armory, we'll get you a clear weapon and practice. But no one ever does!
A slight correction. For the most part, the American militia system could not stand up to British line infantry. The minutemen were not trained to stand in line and not break. It was only when they were implemented as light infantry and given the task of skirmishing did they show their worth on the battlefield.
The Continental Army was the army that was trained to go toe-to-toe with British regulars. Even though they lost many battles they still performed better than the militias in line.
@Shellshock1918 I'm sure we can make a Federal case of this but the fact remains that U.S. citizens can still own these type firearms...... and we won our Independence regardless.
Secondly, the Continental Army came from regular Colonist who beat the British.... but you're missing the point Dude.
@sootch00 I didn't miss the point. I just was remarking that the common perception of the bold minuteman standing his ground and defeating the British just wasn't so in most cases. In a similar "SHTF" "RED DAWN" scenario, most of the armed civilian populace would fair better against conventional forces if they adopted irregular tactics rather than trying to fight a conventional war.
What do you think about the Bushmaster ACR? I have one and love it.

If you can't move fast enough to get to cover, you will be ventelated. Its common sense.

If you ever look into Tactical Defense Institute in Ohio (TDI) and decide to make a trip, you have many like-minded friends that would be glad to house "Team Sootch00". Just thought I would reach out to fellow shooters.

Great Vid!

I was taught that when behind a barricade or cover that you should not be up against the barricade but half a step or less behind, reasons for this as taught is in case of flying debris and if you are up against cover you are as big as your cover is, back up just a bit and you hunker down more to let cover do just that, cover you. I am sure others will agree and disagree.

great video mr sootch... cant wait to see those sling videos ... ive been looking all over YouTube for that kind of info...particularly the 1 point sling. in my mind i feel it would be a great sling.but is it really.(pros and cons).
sippio2030 1 month ago
Yes I saw that too but not sure if off hand is the answer, when approaching a barricade if they are shooting from the right side, they should place their right foot at the barricade and lean out to the right, the keeps a really high percentage of the body behind the barricade and only exposes the a little bit of the on the top. This is how we do it on our quarterly shooting qual...it works very well.
Thanks

@sootch00 Hey Don, in your neck of the woods (Carolina's) can you just run-n-gun on public land ? i was wondering what the regs were in Georgia, or if any one knew ? I have a few people interested in setting up a RNG.
georgiacatweazle 1 month ago

TheFlamethrowerGuy 1 month ago 14
@TheFlamethrowerGuy not to nitpick but he's using a Sig so there was no safety. What he's fumbling with is the decocker. But you are 100% right

@TheFlamethrowerGuy
Kind of like where your gun points at yourself when it's in a holster.
skyhop 1 month ago
@skyhop Really? Wow! I think the vast majority of gun-savvy folks would recommend against pointing a loaded gun at your own hand. Lots of AD's happen on reholstering. The guy in the video appears to still be getting the feel of his gear, which is fine. But that is not a good way to re-holster and the soon he straightens that out, the better for everyone.

I think that under stress a lot of people will act differently
eightgeorge 1 month ago
@eightgeorge You live in the UK and have 0 right to defend yourself with any firearm. Nor can you own any of the firearms you see in this video. Sucks to be you with zero rights and subjected to the whims of your govt and any criminal who attacks you with deadly force. Here in the US there's plenty of training available, especially for the law-abiding civilian gun owner. Here's one of the best training academies in country, you have nothing like this → w w w . sigsaueracademy . com /Courses/

I'm not implying that what you're doing is meaningless or of no purpose, but I think anybody serious about self defense training would seek instruction from a professional. I don't think these "runs and guns" are a substitute for that.
esh325 1 month ago
@esh325 That's the mistake many make as you correctly point out. A "run & gun" was once upon a time simply a form of competitive practical shooting - like "3 gun". Run & guns are not purely tactical or self-defense shooting, and those who think that they are, are mistaken. They're especially not an ample substitute for getting professional training. People who think that they're qualified when they're really not can get you or someone else killed in real self-defense situation.
Everett07630 1 month ago

Keep it up Sootch long live the Constitutional Republic.

minuteman.. always remembers me of this one donald duck...

Bulwark1911 1 month ago
There are some important caveats about this type of shooting. 1) seek professional training (classes / courses) from reputable sources before you attempt to play "operator". 2) Practice often. That can be difficult because most civilian ranges / shooting clubs don't allow this type of shooting. 3) If you're lucky enough to live in rural area with your own personal property or state land to use, take the extra precaution and build / use good earth backstops for your courses.

Shellshock1918 1 month ago
@Shellshock1918 I'm sure we can make a Federal case of this but the fact remains that U.S. citizens can still own these type firearms...... and we won our Independence regardless.
Secondly, the Continental Army came from regular Colonist who beat the British.... but you're missing the point Dude.
sootch00 1 month ago 23
@sootch00 I didn't miss the point. I just was remarking that the common perception of the bold minuteman standing his ground and defeating the British just wasn't so in most cases. In a similar "SHTF" "RED DAWN" scenario, most of the armed civilian populace would fair better against conventional forces if they adopted irregular tactics rather than trying to fight a conventional war.
Shellshock1918 1 month ago 10
