This technique is useless... even with the "redirection" no one is ever going to come at you like that. A slow forward lunge with their other arm down. I practice spontaneous knife movements and attacks. They learn to redirect it disarm it. You don't even control the arm with the weapon, thats rule #1 man. Also his arm is forward. Why are you going to bring it all the way back behind him to do a joint lock? No one is just going to let this crap happen. This is not how reality works.
@buffmedic01 Who made you the authority on how a person will attack with a bladed weapon. A person can attack in any manner they see fit to accomplish their goal, which is stabbing the victim. If you are such the practitioner of "knife movements and attacks", then post your video to show us how it's "really" done so we can learn from the "spontaneous maser of knife movements".
@AikiNinja1 Hey i just want to say something i tried this with friend, he had a marker in his hand. He tried to shank me with Intention and i tried to block ,afterward i had lot ink on my T shirt and arms..
@liltrouble314...I would think that since you're showing respect to his skills, you wouldn't refer to him as that "old nigga" I think he deserves that much
@shmouts I weigh 143lbs on a good day, I am small in size, hand speed pretty decent. I have bested people more than twice my size, 10 years or more younger than me & much stronger too I might add. Brute strength only goes so far, for so long. When brute strength is cronfronted with "technique", guess who loses every time? Let me not forget to add, "most" of the time I bested people saying "what if"? I let them attack me in whatever way they wish, no telegraphed attacks.
@shmouts I have yet to be bested by these people coming at me full force with their attacks, grabs, brute force, etc. All thanks due to the training I received from my 2 instructors, that gentleman you see above and Sensei S. Lewis. So, YOU may have seen brute force do whatever, it doesnt work all the time. Does it defeat some martial artists, why yes it does. Did you consider the factors in what you saw? Weak technique, showing off, anger, low skill level, etc. Just some things to consider...
@shmouts brute force is what gets punks mesed up. you can't think straight if you are just aggressive. That is why Kimbo slice can't fight in UFC: he has no skill, just his muscles

did he just say that a jaw strike cuts off both carotid arteries? That doesnt make any sense. Yes there are many chokes that apply pressure to the carotid and subclavian arteries, but even those take a few seconds. A strike on the lower mandible transfers force thru the TMJ to the skull like a cue ball on the break. There bye causing the brain to bounce back and fourth in its cerebrospinal fluid impacting the scull and causing a concussion. Which tells your brain to stop and reset hence nap time
I agree that books and video are a poor substitute for a good teacher. The secrets are in the details. I have consistently asked my teacher why something I'm doing isn't working, only to be shown something small that makes all the difference in the world. That being said. I wouldn't suggest this technique for less than a master, who has been in many life or death confrontations because it hinges on being able to time and intercept a target with one hand and under life and death pressure
This is why video training can be ineffective for some. They're not noticing everything about the motions being taught. Insightful stuff sir thank you.
I'd definitely check you guys out if you were near the seattle area... but, I'm on the other side of the country...
I think the criticism comes because you have some functional strikes in your aiki... which many aikidokas don't like. And, most people who enjoy strikes don't understand the power of Aiki.
Personally, I like the balance, but a lot of people don't grasp both divergent concepts at once.
