Are you all "city people"? If you ever had an orchard and were faced dozens (hundreds?) of bushels of apples that needed to be preserved, you'd know the importance of this thing. Apples are peeled before they're used in pies, cooked into applesauce or apple butter, or made into jelly. Does anyone here want to peel, core, and slice enough apples for a dozen pies? That's farm life...especially at thrashing time.
