This is the very reason people suck at english. In my country the only thing we get dubbed are movies for kids, other than that there is text. German, french and what have you of useless languages are okay within your own borders, but as soon as you visit another country english would be much prefered. Spanish should also be one of the international languages. We should strive to understand one another... Bloody german and french are not big enough to make it worth while to know...

You might be a fan of overdubbing, but you have to admit there's quite an aspect of laziness to that. It's not because you can't read, but because you simply choose the easy solution. In some cases overdubbing just kills the mood and tone of a scene, humour can't always be translated into a different language, and it's a good way of learning English.
Also, when I watch a German movie or tv-show, I watch it with German subtitles. Even though I do speak German (yes yes, here's someone who knows more than one language. It's a miracle), I don't see why someone who doesn't, wouldn't be capable of watching with subtitles as well. You're simultaniously following what's going on and reading the words below the screen. Easy. It might take some getting used to, but after a while you wouldn't want anything else anymore.

And Americans dub foreign shows and movies, too. Ever see "Life is Beautiful"? If you haven't, you should.

@Saxappealed weil du diesen text auch erst übersetzen musst um ihn zu verstehen - stell dir jetzt mal vor du findest eine deutsche serie richtig toll, würdest du dafür deutsch lernen, oder die ganze serie durch untertitel lesen? nein syncro ist etwas tolles, und die personen die soetwas machen werden in deutschland unterbezahlt und unterschätzt, sie machen super arbeit und ich bin froh das wir in deutschland so gut darin sind.

You might be a fan of overdubbing, but you have to admit there's quite an aspect of laziness to that. It's not because you can't read, but because you simply choose the easy solution. In some cases overdubbing just kills the mood and tone of a scene, humour can't always be translated into a different language, and it's a good way of learning English.

Also, when I watch a German movie or tv-show, I watch it with German subtitles. Even though I do speak German (yes yes, here's someone who knows more than one language. It's a miracle), I don't see why someone who doesn't, wouldn't be capable of watching with subtitles as well. You're simultaniously following what's going on and reading the words below the screen. Easy. It might take some getting used to, but after a while you wouldn't want anything else anymore.

@xXxXxEulexXxXx: Es geht mit weniger darum einen auf Denglisch zu machen, als die Tatsache zu betonen, dass ich persönlich finde: Bei einer Synchro geht viel verloren. Zuviel. Die Stimmlage, die Akzente, alles. Bei Stargate Atlantis haben sie zum Beispiel dem Doktor da komplett den genialen schottischen Akzent wegsynchronisiert. Ich würde mir ja Anatomie auch nicht auf Englisch anschauen wollen, aber eben englische Filme / Serien auch nicht auf Deutsch...

Nichtsdestotrotz zwingt dich niemand diese Synchro anzuschauen. Ich versteh einfach nicht wie man so arrogant sein kann, anderen vorschreiben zu wollen, was besser für sie ist, bei so etwas lächerlichem wie einer Fernsehserie. Es spricht eben nicht jeder diese Sprache (nein - mich nicht eingeschlossen) und ich versteh nicht, wie es euch stören kann, wenn andere Menschen die Serie synchronisiert schauen.

I'm german and this is just ridiculous. If germans want to see house: Learn the fucking language or leave it entirely! Such synchronisations are ruining the entire series.

@TheMailproxy DU bist so ein Affe man :D genau wegen solchen Schmocks wie dir finden es auf einmal alle ach so cool auf Denglisch zu machen...Da gibt des den McDrive, Den Schüttelshake (was an dummheit nicht zu übertreffen ist weil es beides das selbe bedeutet). Man sagt Pics statt bilder, Events statt veranstaltungen usw. die Liste könnte ich ewig weiter führen. Ich bin auch 1/2 Ami aber ich trete es nicht breit...ich bin stolzer drauf 1/2 Deutsch zu sein als jemand zu sein der aus einem Land

@TheMailproxy kommt in dem die leute nichts besseres zu tun haben als sich ständig selbst auf die Schulter zu klopfen wie toll sie doch sind. Bestes beispiel Börsenkriese: Wer war dran schuld? USA! Ich war mit meiner Familie auf so ner dämlichen Army veranstaltung. Überall hochrängige Generäle die die Nase so weit oben hielten dass es schon wieder peinlich war. Und als dann dieser eine Typ da seine Rede gehalten hat konnte ich nicht mehr vor lachen.
