Hey, I was in the military for 4 years and got injured in battle in Bosnia and counted it my priviledge and honor to do so. I now receive disability for it and I ache everyday and have had 5 surgeries and have 2 surgeries coming up (resulting from injuries from that accident). And you know what, I'd do it again! if anyone has ever been in a situation of serving for jury duty, then you know how demanding the state can be, so considering that.. it is very scary to think of a state that forces you to serve in any fashion. And furthermore, you won't be going to war in a capacity of 3 to 6 months service. I guarantee that! It takes 8 months just to train to have a weapon in your hand in most services! (that's today, not during Vietnam times mind you). Besides, 3 to 6 months will get you through Basic Training and then you'll go to somewhere on the base you trained on and work (because I know the military and they won't waste the taxpayers dollars sending you to some base for 3 to 4 months). if anyone has ever been in a situation of serving for jury duty, then you know how demanding the state can be, so considering that.. it is very scary to think of a state that forces you to serve in any fashion. The courts think your life stops for jury duty, and have no problem throwing you in jail for not serving, so this power in greater hands is absolutley frighting.
I don't have a problem with jury duty, it's just the threats they use to force you into it. fine and or imprisonment.

Ha!, what Obama's going to be "asking" for? "ASKING" for service? Ha! that was so yesterday, on his new Change ((dot)) org, Obama specifically says his plan will "require" service: 50 hours for middle and high school students, 100 for college students -- *every* year too.

I'm a RonPaul fan but, what's really wrong with the youth serving there country in some capacity. The great thing about America is that the youth still have a choose not to do so. This is a request with incentives not a demand with penalties.

when your country practices invasions on other countries, and leaders lie about reasons that get you into war, I would say that it is a very scary prospect to have the youth serve this type of system in any capacity.

So you're saying that we should have no millitary. You can't have it both ways. Who do you suggest go in the millitary. i'm trying to figure this out...should the minimum age be raised to 21, or mabye 25. Again that would be voluntary, or have no one join the millitary and bring the draft back. I'm not for Tyranny either and woud not advise my kids to join, but I will tell them it's great to server youre country some way. mabye the next gen should revolt? that's the only way.

well, if our military is just going to kill innocents, then what good are they? I'm not criticizing the men and women who serve. They are mearly following orders, but the system that is in place is breeding hatred of the United States on a global scale. this will inevitably lead to more wars in the future, and imo, as long as we follow this policy the draft will inevitable come back, one day. hopefully later rather than sooner, but eventually.

well, the national guard is suppose to only protect the homeland, and people sign up to do just that, but instead they get sent to Iraq or Afghanistan to serve in a job that is suppose to be the militaries.
how long do you think it will be before they use the "homeless shelter brigade" for puposes other than their original intention??
Oh, and I serve my community everytime I pay a tax and recieve a paycheck. They take from me without my consent, why should i work for them for free?

He asks that every youth "serves in some capacity." That does not necessarily mean serving in the military. And I'm fairly sure he did "serve in some capacity" when he was a community organizer.
It's basically a rehash of "Ask not what your country can do for you". Which seems to have been thrown out on its ear over the past decade. Apparently the social contract that is government can't actually ask anything from its citizens...

I'm not sure what's new about this.
He calls for military service... if you serve in the military, your education is already payed for.
He calls for serving in the peace corp... again, you already receive grants from the government for college for doing this.
For all of the people that claim this will hurt our economy, most of it's already in place. The only difference is that if students take advantage of these programs, there will be less free money payed out by FAFSA for doing nothing.

"Calls for" is not a direct quote and it's an ambiguous phrase - that's why you had to change it.
You're also equivocating the war on Iraq with the war on terror because you don't want anyone knowing that you're against the invasion of Afghanistan & the only other way to phrase it would be "Doesn't it scare you that he supports voluntary military service so that we can attack the Taliban and Al Qaeda?"

This bailout pisses me off.
I do not own a home or property only because I do not like being tied down. Also, in this day age no one stays in there house for over 30 years to paid off.
I am angry about this is because, as a tax payer I am stuck paying for this bail out Because mortgage companies will finance a house to welfare recipients and people with low income that could not pay their mortgage and now I am stuck along the rest of the tax payers in this country to having to pay for it.
