@MONLEONE1976 Patty Pravo made an howful plagio of this song in 1987. Patty Pravo's song was judged illegal, and to Patty Pravo was forbidden to sing this song forever. The right version is the one of Dan Fogelberg. Wonderful song!
Dan's music is full of so much insight. He really was a genius songwriter. I'd put him up there with Gordon Lightfoot , Carole King, Neil Sedaka and Paul McCartney. R.I.P. Dan.... We all miss you.... you live here on YouTube for those of us who grew up with you and for those who will discover you down the road.

this is a great song. Nice and relaxing music, one of my favorites. " and maybe there are seasons, and maybe they change, and maybe to love is not so strange...." nice lines
This song will always remind me of an October night parked at Red Rocks Amp and getting my heart broken by my best friend who left me for a life of partying in the Midwest. I will never be the same. But the tears that it still brings to my eyes to this day will forever remind me of why we all love in the first place. Thanks Dan for all the songs that gave our lives meaning.
Just been thinking about Dan for the last few days -- I grew up with his music. So beautiful and sad. Miss you Dan. Thanks for the beautiful music. ~B~
While growing up, we always had a Sunday or two a month doing chores/projects around the house followed by making a good home-cooked meal. Music would be played all day inside and outside on external speakers. Many of those Sundays, no matter the season, no matter the weather, were made quite complete with Dan's music. Many of his songs would stick with you as you hummed them to get through the rest of the humdrum week...until the next good Sunday. RIP Dan, you left the world a better place.
@bobx2x2 I too woke up to this song for many mornings. It was a pleasure to face the day. I listened to WFMT for 50 years. Nothing like it where I am now!
What a wonderful experience for you. I plan on going to Maine this August and seeing the Reach. I want to try to do it on his birthday. It must have been a very almost "spiritual" experience for you. And you're right, he is very deeply missed.
To "meejet" three months ago:You said about Dan three months ago,"You were wise beyond time and space". Love Love Love this song. Reminds me of waking up in college in upstate New York in 1978 after a long night of partying and hearing this playing firs thing in the morning!! What a way to wake up!!!!
What can be said a very cool song . I remember laying in my bed at school Schreiner College Kerrville Texas in 1973 and dreaming about my girlfriend Laurel .... so far away .. remembering all of the great time ... so lonely .. Wow thanks for this song Dan .. may you rest in peace . Your missed

This song has helped me through many long nights - beginning in the 1970s when it was first recorded to last night in 2009. RIP Dan - you were wise beyond time and space.
After "Birds", just got to start listening all over again ......... a beautiful, sensitive man who crafted the most soul searching music and lyrics ever. My heart still aches from his loss...

Such a beautiful song. Over 30 years ago, there was a DJ I worked with who played this as is last song each night before he signed off at 1 a.m. Gave me goosebumps then, still does now....
This song of Dan's is raw with the delicate power of a dawn flower essense and pulses with healing vibrations of an ungrounded deionized breath of fresh air.. Thank you from the aethers Dan...
This is a song that influenced my life. As we grow older, we can't help but to reflect. I thank Dan for writing and recording this song to share the same feelings of love, friendship and a promise of a new day. I know God is very happy to have you my friend. Sing your songs to him and let them filter down to the rest of us forever. Jackson, Mississippi will always remember you. Thanks my friend!
this song is the best.,.,i worked at an Inn in NH when i was 14 and 15 and fell in love with the owners grandson and we use to make love to this song.,.,and one night when he was gone i woke up to this song and looked out at the horses against the White Mountains and missed him so much.,.,we are good friends to this very day.,.,he is divorced and i am a widow and often wonder if we should get together and see what might happen :) I love you Robbie.,.,.still Kat
This track really takes me back (To the morning)My best friend, Sharon always found wonderful albums from people no- one else had heard of. This at the time was on one of them. I borrowed this in 1981 i think. She had to beg to get it back!
I used to visit a friend who first played Fogelbird, the Home Free album..so that is a few years ago. It is quite incredible at the obvious difference in the serenity of his music compared to almost anything today. I just don't understand how screaming and hate-filled music entertains. My wife and I got to see him in Concernt in Cleveland just a few years ago. I will carry his music with me forever.
I have several albums by Dan Fogelberg as we were the same age and I've followed his music since "Home Free". I work on the road and still play this song at sunrise whenever I need to be reminded that gratitude is the best attitute. Thanks Dan.....
His music definetely took you or put you in a different frame of mind. His music helps you cope with a world that sometimes wants to run you in the ground and then blame you for being there. But Dan's music brought you back up to face the world once again. I believe in my heart that Dan was just like us who appreciated him and his music. No fanfare, just a man that said i'm here with you trying to make a better place for us to live in through my music. Thank you sir! miss you!
Fantastic! Thanks for posting the video. Dan Fogelberg helped me throughout my teenage years, all those heartaches, lessons learned. All I had to do was put on one of his LP's and the world was right again.
I cried when I heard of his passing. He touched so many lives with his music.
I love this song. I use to get up real early in the morning, put on this album, sit on the front porch and drink coffee watching the woods come awake from the long night's sleep.
Rest in peace, Dan. Thank you for your beautiful songs that helped me through such tough times back in the 80s.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, Sonorense. No the images are not from a movie. I just sewed them all together to create a dream-like experience. This song always lulls me into a mood where I kind of drift away peacefully, which is why I made the video the way that I did..."a dream".
I miss this man being here so much. His music has helped me through so much in the last 35 years it would be impossible to put into words. God Bless Dan - and thank you for his music and life.
I found so much peace while listening to Dan's music, especially when I was going through the toughest times of my life. God only knows what salice he brought to me...Thank you Dan.
who knows the song where theses lyrics came from please 'Gonna write a classic, Gonna write it in an attic Coz baby I'm an addict For your lurve' thanks
What a man who had so much talent to share! Dan's music will live on. This song started it for me and I have loved Dan ever since I heard Home Free back in the 80s. Thank you Dan
I just cant get enough of this song, or any of the others from Home Free. It touches me like no other song does. It is so nice to read all the other comments here, and realize the similar effect Dan has on all of us.. I am so sad he is gone.
I, too, walked down the aisle to one of Dan's songs... Dec. 1980.... snowy afternoon in a log cabin church... will be in my mind and heart forever...sure that you feel the same...his music made memories for people to keep forever...
I have listened to this every morning since when it came out. it gets me to appreciate the day, and the people who I have loved and lost and those who have loved and lost me.But gives me hope for the moments after this one.
through all his great songs~ this is still my favorite. This album and Netherlands are just masterpieces!.. they bring back so many memories from my college days. Regretably I never got to see him in concert and I knew so little about him as he was so private and stayed out of the "limelight" I appreciate all these video's so much -- there are so few posted of his very early music! great job with the videos!! thank you!!
thanks.. I had such a crush on him all thru college!! me and how many 1000's of other 19yr. old girls. He never toured close to Buffalo and I at the time couldn't afford to travel much further to see. What a great memory you'll always have..
All you folks from Tampa who were and still are Fogelberg fans. My folks were Carnival people . We spent our off seasons in Gibsonton and Dan Fogelberg was played in my bedroom...
This song was ny first introduction to Dan Fogelberg almost 30 years ago. He was an unbelievable talent, truly one-of-a-kind and there will never be another one like him. My heart breaks for his wife, Jean. How tragic to lose someone like him and way, way too soon.
I used to listen to this song every morning while I had breakfast looking out over a lake in Tampa during one of the most peaceful times in my life. A quiet morning, mist on the lake, steaming coffee, what a great way to start the day. I still can't quite believe he's left us...
I grew up in Tampa, too, listening to and loving Dan Fogelberg. Can't say my days/nights were peaceful, but that is a place I could always get to with his music and touching into his deep soul.
His music: So wonderful & full of insight & vulnerability (which in the privacy of our interior worlds, allowed even well-defended & emotionally walled-off men such as myself not only to feel but also to express our tenderness). In a particular four-year period (undergraduate years), I can track passages, transitions, ups & downs, triumphs & heart-breaks, loves won & lost by certain Fogelberg songs & albums. (Beautiful quote borrowed from Shoshin Seishu).
cuxca...that wasn't very nice...people like me and so many others get so much meaning from their favorite music and artists that created it. Dan touched so many hearts.
CherchezMoi, don't worry about people who leave comments like the one cuxca left, they are what I call prickly people. The best you can do for them is try to love their prickles off, worse case scenario, take no notice. People met or unmet leave all sorts of impressions on our lives and we can appreciate them no matter what anyone else says. It is our right to remember and to express that. Peace to you, my friend.
1972. I was in my 2nd year of high school. My brother came home from college and brought me 2 gifts. A Firesign Theatre album and Dan Fogelberg's Home Free. The story went something like: I go to school with him and her performs these songs at the Red Herring Coffee House. Listen to it and I will teach you Looking For A Lady. Dan taught me after one of his shows. 36 years later, the words and the music ring just as clear. I miss coffehouses. I miss Dan. Bittersweet these memories can be.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful songs of my life. I am so grateful for having it with me all the days of my life, and so incredibly sad that Dan is gone. Thank you, Dan, for the gifts. I will never forget you. RIP, dear friend.
Hi, txeire. I'm not American and I assume that "rack yourself" is an American saying. So could you please educate this little Kiwi and tell her what it means? Thanks:)
Homefree has always had a special place in my heart, as it was the soundtrack of my very first love story with somebody who's not in this world anymore..what memories in discovering this video..thank u very much..
On the Homefree album (Dan's 1st) so many songs shine...Stars, Looking for a Lady, To The Morning, The River...how does someone write such wonderful and beautiful music at 18-19 years old????
One of the most beautiful songs ever written...I can say that about many of Danny's songs. I have listened to him everyday for nearly 30 years. Now my heart breaks when I do, but I still listen. He is missed. What a beautiful man, what a wonderful gift he had that he shared with so many. He will live on forever.
This may very well be the most beautiful song ever written and recorded. I have loved his music more than for any other musicians in the last 30 years and I have seen him live @ a dozen times. His wonderful music stands for itself. On his website someone wrote "it is hard to imagine heaven, without Dan there". So very true
I FEEL all of your comments - I've also been a fan since "Home Free" and seen him in concert so many times. We have lost a dear friend with a deep soul. May he rest in Heaven's grip.
I join you in saying I feel like I have lost a dear friend. Listening to his music brings me in and open and the tears keep coming. I don't recall the last time I have wept. Memories of bliss in Park City Utah at his concert. Dan, Thank you.
Listening to his music has been ... really hard for me lately. His words and his voice were such a constant during my childhood, and on through the years. It honestly feels like I've lost a friend. So ... I want to listen to his music, as a comfort, but it's been really emotional when I try to lately. Especially this song ...
I too, have been playing this song frequently, but as I listen to it I cannot help but cry. Dan was such a beautiful soul. We lost a soul that has touch our lives with music and song.
i have been trying to find some songs from his 'souvenirs' album - 'morning sky', 'part of the plan', 'changing horses' to name a few, so many great songs by him and so few posted here that i can find
rest in peace Dan and thank you for all of the great music you left us to remember you by
My favorite Fogelberg album, Home Free and "To the Morning" inspired me through many days of my youth. I heard of Dan Fogelberg's passing recently and, like many of you, felt the great and terrible loss of a friend. God Bless you, Dan! We will continue to share your music as you live on to inspire others.
This is one of my favorite songs. "To The Morning" is from his first album, "Home Free". It really showed Dan Fogelberg's pure musical talent. He composed, wrote, and played most of the instruments on this album. Dan thank-you for your musical talent. First heard you on the radio in 1975. Never stopped listening to your music since. Thanks for all the inspirational music. It touched my heart and soul in a very deep and profound way. I am forever grateful for that. Peace.
Your comment is eloquent. I found his music about the same time as you, and my experience included seeing him in Tampa and Seattle. This song has been a favorite for many years, and I too have never stopped listening. Your words have brought tears to my eyes and some peace to my heart. Thank you! You sound like a lovely person. Darlene
One of my favorite songs. Yes, it is from his first Home Free Album. There's alot of other great songs on it as well. Dan, I Love and Miss you. Thanks for all the inspirational music-it touched and still touches my heart and soul in a very deep way-Forever grateful!
Such an amazing song, and to think it comes from Dan's first album.
This, and many other songs, just seem to pull you in forcing you to, "feel," the full impact of the lyrics, "simply," about the new day, and how each day, and season, connects with your life, as it passes through the known, and the "Maybe's," that we all encounter, with, "Love," being the foundation for each day, and hope for a life, full of love.
Sorry, my first impression, over 30 years ago, and it hasn't changed.
It is 8.48am here in New Zealand, 25th December, Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to everyone. Can you believe it has already been nine days since he passed? I had to listen to some Dan songs this morning, the first Christmas without him in the world somewhere quietly going about his life. Seems odd and sad to think he is not here any more. Peace to you and yours.
this song is beautiful

This is a song that influenced my life. As we grow older, we can't help but to reflect. I thank Dan for writing and recording this song to share the same feelings of love, friendship and a promise of a new day. I know God is very happy to have you my friend. Sing your songs to him and let them filter down to the rest of us forever. Jackson, Mississippi will always remember you. Thanks my friend!

He touched so many lives with his music.
.."and maybe true love is not so strange"...
He found his. May we all find ours.

This is one of my favorite songs. "To The Morning" is from his first album, "Home Free". It really showed Dan Fogelberg's pure musical talent.
